Rogic on a road well travelled, Ciftci’s mark

389

I’ve been slow to catch onto the Tom Rogic bandwagon but his performance yesterday marks a new level of attainment. After some fleeting appearances in the months following his arrival at the club as a 20-year-old, Rogic dropped off the radar. A loan return to Australia and a number of injuries meant he went close to two years without playing for Celtic before his return to the team last month. I’d written him off, and when the teams were announced to face Dundee, I was a bit disappointed to see him in the team ahead of Scott Allan.

Yesterday was like a light being switched on. He demonstrated speed, skill, intelligence and finishing. If we had acquired him for a lot of money last month, I’d be delighted at what was on show.

All of this happened, of course, against a poorly organised Dundee team. Far greater challenges lie ahead, but just like the transformation in Nir Bitton a year ago, or the gains Wanyama made in 2012, we can hope to transform Rogic from a lost-looking squad player into a top performer.

I think we were all delighted Nadir Ciftci got off the mark. Being clean through on the keeper puts the burden of onus on the striker. A significant percentage of such chances are lost, but Nadir’s finish was assured. Like all strikers, he needed that first goal, and I suspect needed the assist he gained a moment earlier when setting Scott Brown up for the fifth.

More game-time and more goals are now needed, starting with Raith Rovers in the League Cup (ouch) on Wednesday.

  1. Summa, I think that we may have been in touch briefly when I was in Brum

I am in London now and wanted to make sure someone pointed to you to the Wimbledon csc for Wednesday, it’s the one we use now and normally well attended.

@wimbledoncsc is the Twitter handle if helpful. Is the best one we used and pretty easy to get too. Otherwise, few mates been to the csc at Euston and they have found it to be good also, depending where your based. Most of the live ones are on Celtic bars.com I think

I’m all for blootering, better that than peely wally Brit mentality.

  3. i thought he was dead your pathetic attempts to lecture me on Verbs in a vain attempt to hide your misogyny is somewhat hilarious.

You took a sexist smear, made it worse and are now pretending that you didn’t.

You are just an SNP supporter. I expect no more and it’s the new facists politics in Scotland.

Apparantly Kazia is a cartoon character (in SNP opinion) so that makes it fine to call her a “dug”.

    You are a classless idiot.

  4. Good morning friends, and welcome to a bright new day from a dry, completely clear skied but rather chilly looking East Kilbride.

  5. Beautiful here in Largs too.

Hope the dark clouds lift from the blog today. Painful reading back and finding that troll activity was back to its worst.

Hoping an apology is forthcoming or yet more people will be driven away. It is not acceptable to infer that I am a fascist for voting yes and for voting SNP at the election. Man up Neganon.

  6. I was going to go to work today.

    But kind of scared now.

The uber nats neighbors are up early and up to no good.

Make of that what you will.

    Bigots.

  7. Neilbhoy you will find no apology from me. The nationalists have invented laws like the OB whitish is fascist law designed to criminalise the hated minority in Scotland. It’s racism 101 but bizarrely Celtic supporters appear to be perfectly okay with that?

I was referring to wee Izzy blootering the ball towards the Barras at the penalty kick.

    “peely wally Brit mentality.” :-)

The tragedy of Latin America is that the Spanish got there instead of los “peel wally Brit” rubios.

I ve not got a problem with defenders whose first instinct is to clear their lines when you never pressure.

About twenty minutes in to the Malmo match,I was complaining that none of them seemed able to head the ball further than the length of themselves.

If that lesson has been learned,I’m quite happy when th it.

  10. Neganon – is it just an unfortunate (for the instigators) by product of the OB act that it’s criminalising more non Irish Catholics that it was designed to punish?

It’s a rubbish set of laws from start to finish. It needs withdrawn.

  11. Dugs.

  12. Weeminger,

Is criminalising g Catholics part of what neg was referring to ?

Or did you phrase that wrong :)

Regardless, it was clearly identified to ‘balance up’ what do you suppose was meant by that and what do you think the motives behind that thinking is ?

  13. Good morning CQNers,

Sad to see CQN has lost a lot of it’s informative posters that so attracted me to it. Shame really.

  14. This blog was having heated political debates long before most of those complaining were lurkers, if they were indeed lurkers, as most announce themselves in their initial posts, why would they not see that or why would they want to join in then get complain when it debate returns to that subject ?

Some people want to have a look at themselves, it’s never been just a Celtic blog, it greatest attraction has always been diversity, if you don’t want to read about politics join kerrydale street, they at least pretend they don’t discuss politics.

  15. Canamalar – I suspect that Christine Graham was talking about evening up numbers between Celtic and RIFC. That would come from the ignorant belief that one is as bad as the other.

A broken start point leading to a broken law.

Celtic doesn’t equal Catholic but if somebody has been arrested under the OB Act for doing something inherent to their faith I’ll take that on board.

I repeat its a law that needs binned.

I was suggesting recently that Boyata in particular should learn to blooter it until the defence had the kind of understanding we had with the late and lamented defensive core.

Discussing politics is still ok on here,as far as I know. Questioning the SNP in any way is not.

That party and some of its supporters should learn about being gracious in victory and magnanimous in defeat.

Haha, amazing how much we can agree on when we stay off politics-on which we respectfully disagree (!)

  19. Neilbhoy,

I do not particularly know to whom you refer but I saw no trolling last night. Maybe a clashing of non footie views but not trolling.

Neganon2 has sincerely held views. Some may agree, some may not, but coming from lower Bearsden nobody can doubt his first hand experiences.

I have debated the difference between sectarianism and racism in Scotland. Imo they are not the same, although the impact and consequencesis are identical.

For example in a non hypothetical situation. :- two young women ( who would become grandmothers ) arrive in Glasgow before WW2. One from the ROI and one from the Isands of Scotland that the reformation missed. Both struggle to find work, both struggle to find housing fit to live in, both subject to initial poverty. Eventually they both, through sheer perseverance, toil, bloody mindedness and sweat establish a foothold, marry and as they say the rest is history.

The young woman from the Scottish islands suffered dreadfully from the evil of sectarianism, whereas the young woman from the ROI suffered dreadfully from the evil that is racism. This is where I believe that Neganon2’s argument is flawed because in his Scotland it is a country that is institutionally racist towards Scotland’s Irish Catholic population.

Both young woman suffered identical treatment, perhaps the indigenous one slightly more due her first language not being English. The reason why is imo sectarianism not racism.

    HH to all.

    HH.

  20. Weeminger,

Can you be 100% sure of that ?

Point being Celtic is associated with Irish Catholics and most Scots still regard the club in those terms and that my friend is I expect the anger that drives Neganon2 as it does me.

Making excuses for and ignoring that law is why I cannot join nationalists, and why I don’t care if I’m labelled a unionist.

  21. Good morning all. Is tomorrow night’s game on TV?

Busy day today, bowling, Quasar, fast food lunch and cinema. Modern education.

  22. Has any elected SNP politician, or official party spokesperson, ever voiced any concern about or criticism of their party’s Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012?

I’m sure one of them must have, but I’ve never seen or heard any such criticism.

To me that’s as disconcerting as the legislation itself.

  23. BMCUW,

That’s not going to happen anytime soon, the nats are doing what nationalists do naturally become extremists.

The SNP policies are so perfect in every way that none of their representatives can find any fault whatsoever.

  27. Ernie – not to the best of my knowledge, which is poor.

At the same time there wasn’t really many calls from other parties to kill it until they thought it might be a vote winner.

The issue is that most non football people think its fine and they’re never exposed to the details of its flaws because they’re only discussed within the football environment.
