Rogic, PoTY or sub?

261

The game after a big win or defeat is always important.  Winners going into the game need to set aside thoughts of glory, while losers need to get back in the saddle.  Both Celtic and Newco managed this very successfully after their pivotal league meeting on Wednesday.  Motherwell and Hearts, respectively fourth and third in the table, were dismissed in style.  For Newco, in particular, yesterday was a huge result.  This league has plenty of drama left in it yet.

Evident in Ange Postecoglou’s team selection recently has been squad management.  He rested Josip Juranovic, Jota and Matt O’Riley yesterday, replaced by Anthony Ralston, Daizen Maeda and Tom Rogic, none of whom looked anything other than first choice material.

The selection for Pittodrie on Wednesday will give us an insight into who the manager will select in a vitally important game when he has genuine options – for the first time this season.   After Aberdeen, Ange will have more opportunities to rest limbs, with Raith Rovers, Bodo/Glimt and Dundee visiting Celtic Park in succession, though the Norwegians will face a strong side.

Earlier in the season I mentioned Tom Rogic as a Player of the Year candidate.  More recently, I suggested he may find himself out in the cold after our January arrivals.  A virtuoso performance on his return from international duty saw me vacillating back to my initial prediction.  Can someone tell me how this one plays out, PoTY or cameo substitute?  Both seem plausible.

  1. I’d be interested to see what Tom Rogic weighed last year and previous years under Neil Lennon. He looks much leaner now – maybe as much as 6kg or even 8kg less than last year, I bet. If that’s true it’s no surprise he’s lasting whole games.

I reckon the same is true of CalMac by the way – looks much leaner than last season.

It wasn’t just the involvement of the City of London Police (I doubt any of them were wearing hun cufflinks or chanting the Billy Boys as they went about their business), but control of their banking arrangements moving away from Scotland, the involvement of UK wide HMRC, and the awareness that sooner or later the tax question could be decided by the Supreme Court that led to their demise.

Paul, for God’s sake don’t change your mind regarding anything Celtic on here – you’ll have the parrots squawking for months to come

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You claimed it was tongue in cheek, now you say you changed your mind – which is it?

    Who’s a pretty bhoy then?

  4. FIELDOFDRAMS on 7TH FEBRUARY 2022 2:11 PM

That would put Rogic firmly in the same category as Leigh Griffiths when it comes to self discipline, responsibility and professionalism.

    Which I think is unlikely.

I don’t know what has led to the turn around in his stamina but I think it’s more than just laying off the pies.

  5. Big ANGE has included KYOGO for the named Squad for the Euro games, which MAY suggest that KYOGO is close to returning to 1st Team action……or maybe ANGE is looking at him for a longer term involvement SHOULD Celtic go further in Europe beyond the upcoming Tie which I think is next week ?

it will be great to see KYOGO back in the Team ASAP and getting on the end of super Passes from Big Tommy and young Matt.

    These Bhoys can terrify opponents.

Rogic is far and away the most skilful player in the squad.”

Far and away more skilful than Jota?

    Your general observation noted Pablo.

(Fingers crossed) following trip to Pittodrie, an upcoming run of 3 home games ….

.. after which we’ll have a squad of 18-20 players available none of whose inclusion in the first team would see even the slightest performance deterioration.

  9. Sky appear to have paid more for Scottish football rights so they could proceed to downgrade the game.

Doncaster must gain future guarantees of coverage before entering into any new agreement with Sky.

Their coverage this season has been poor. The fans are much worse off for BT being priced out.

  13. Revealed: How Murray International Holdings’ accounts outline Lloyds ‘incentives’ to Sir David Murray before and after Craig Whyte Rangers sale

Insider.co.uk has gone through the audited records of MIH from 2007 to 2013 which show the metals business was just one of a number of lucrative assets Sir David prised away from his heavily indebted group

    —————————-

MIH debts to Lloyds Banking Group peaked at £954.8m in 2009, and the bank, following its controversial takeover of HBOS, instigated a restructuring in 2009 – extending the MIH group reporting period to 17 months.

  14. Mad Man

it does not matter which government is in place, nothng back then could have or would have saved the Rangers entity.

    HBOS was bust.

    MIH was bust.

Murray got all his free money and it coudnt save MIH.

He did his sweet-heart deals with his pals and hived off the best assets (land and property) into family trusts in sons and wifes names. Previously stealthily selling off the loss making parts, including Rangers for a pound.

You should have watched the HBOS documentary and/or the Men who sold the Jerseys.

It was the EBT scheme (or, to be precise, the misuse of the EBT scheme) that finished the huns. Even if MIH had gone bust the ‘company that owned the club’ would have survived if it hadn’t been for those pesky folks at HMRC., and the evidence unearthed by the City of London Police.

An honourable mention also to the iconoclastic Dr Heidi Poon, without whose dissenting judgement things would have gone in another direction. Funny how she saw things so very differently from the other two tribunal members.

  20. Ernie.funny I know.Big bang 1986 a lot more pertinent to Sir Hunner of Pence, lever financier and ‘shell company’s’generator. That liberation of the markets was farmed and harvested brilliantly(in terms of companies in his say,or more importantly companies who could access capital)and he did.he sucked up…think liquidator is still counting,a £billion of debt and all would be overseen at govt level.(his extensive but weakening Indian interest at time)

  21. Would go along with Hot Smoked – I think Jota is the most skillfull player in the team. Fleet of foot, fast of thought, killer first touch, great crosses and passes and not too shabby at shooting either.

He’s only 22. If we consider that this is really his breakthrough season and he is still improving, he will undoubtedly move to and star in bigger leagues – hopefully not until after 2-3 seasons with us.

  27. Ernie – Jota for me but we are splitting hairs, they are both brilliant. I would suggest we now have options in the middle that mean a midfield without Rogic is not necessarily weaker. But there is no one close to Jota’s level on the left wing.

Just my opinion. I am amazed at the level Rogic is now playing at for 90 minutes. Thought his best days were over when BR left. He is better now than at any time I can recall

Regardless of party politics, that is hugely concerning. For any such vetting of players, deemed appropriate for clubs to sign, is terrifying.
