Rogic rises without impartial fan or journalist eyes

422

Back in October I wrote that Tom Rogic could be this season’s Player of the Year, or he could just as easily drift out of the team.  Injury (hamstring, of course) soon interrupted his run of form but Tom was inspired at Hampden in December, when the League Cup was brought back into the fold.  On this basis alone, Tom’s nomination for the Scottish Professional Footballers Association (SPFA) Player of the Year is worthwhile.

The Celtic story of this season is largely how we overturned a six-point deficit during the second half of the campaign.  The team’s rise was helped enormously by a spectacular January transfer window, but without a few excellent performers in the first half of the season, current form would count for nought.

Kyogo changed everything.  His goals, movement, respectful behaviour, the sheer joy he brought to Celtic cannot be overstated.  He was the muse all others took inspiration from.  Despite missing half the season, you could make a case that his impact outweighs all others.

Cameron Carter-Vickers did what we hoped Shane Duffy would do a year earlier.  He controls his immediate vicinity with an assuredness that allows the entire team to relax and get on with their with their primary function.  If not Player of the Year, he is a big part of the story.

The same goes for Joe Hart, who settled our 12 months goalkeeping problem and provides the same assuredness the team gets from Carter-Vickers.  Neither Kyogo, Cameron nor Joe received a nomination.

Callum McGregor did and is likely to win the award.  He has been a Celtic constant for eight years and a setter of world records for time served per season.  He is one of the players who could easily slot into any of the great European sides.

Whatever your views on PotY, these are the nominations came from players who have competed in the league this season; there are no impartial fan or journalist eyes involved.

    BADA BING

It would only affect pedestrians and traffic on London Road for 30 minutes, 2 hours before the game. That’s why I referred to it as a minor inconvenience to ensure segregation.

It has never caused a problem before….

Well done Bada. You have just proved my point.

“30 minutes, 2 hours before the game”.

“It never caused a problem before”.

The problem in September 2018 didn’t have the 30 minute window 2 hours before kick-off. The whole south east corner was closed the whole two hours up to the game. The crush was caused by Celtic supporters going through the tunnel from east to west and vice versa, because London Road was closed the whole time.

I’ll say it for the THIRD time. The 30 minute 10 to 10:30 wi dow for Rangers fans to get in only started the next derby AFTER that incident, by order of the police, in response to that incident.

How hard is it to understand?

And you accuse ME of never admitting I’m wrong?

Positively my last post on this.

I was at a Celtic Centenary function in the Normandy Hotel in 1988. There were a few players and ex-players there plus one or two celebrity supporters. Dixie Deans was introduced and gave a wee speech.

During the break my wife and I were standing in the foyer talking to Cardinal Winning who remembered me as an altar boy in Motherwell. After we parted, a couple of Celtic supporters approached me and asked if they could have their picrute taken with me.

I was so taken aback I just stood there between them and smiled, thinking – who do these guys think I am? Once the photos were taken, the guy who had asked me said – thanks Dixie.

It was hilarious and a couple from my supporters bus witnessed it and I was henceforth nicknamed Duxie.

  6. Tom rogic is without doubt a majestic football player when he turns up , but as we all know he is prone to not showing in games that require a bit of dig and you can tell in a short time if he is up for it . You could always tell with wee jimmy if he wasn’t on his game within the first five minutes ,but those occasions were very rare . On Sunday we have the chance to wrap this title up ,but it requires a group of players with determination and fire in there bellies determined not to be bullied , determined to succeed in bringing our crown home , there is no place in that team for hiders . They know what to expect , they know a level playing ground won’t happen as we are faced with another hand picked mib chosen solely for his love of them and hatred for us .so go to it bhoys hit them with our total speed they have no answer to that . Always remember being at the cup final at Hampdump

v Hibs when wee Jinky hammered a shot that was going

miles wide until wee Dixie flew through the air and scored

with FANTASTIC diving header. I think it was the 6-3 final where

both Dixie for us and Joe Harper for Hibs scored hat tricks

  8. fergusslayedtheblues on

    Well bhoys n ghirls

What we have on Sunday is a great opportunity to all but seal 55 .

If BIG ANGES entertainers dispatch the hump and run merchants from the soor side ,we will have one hell of a party .

    Why ?

    because it is 55 ,naw

because we love gubbin them (aye ) but naw .

because their superiority delusion will take a hit (maybe a little ).

No for me it will be ,because of were we started this season from .Not to put a too fine point on it we were a shambles back then . hanging on for EH and his pals to decide if they fancied a swap from the sunny south of England for a parka in the summer .

Although to be fair to the board that entourage wouldn’t have come cheap ,so at least they seem to have grasped the seriousness of the title this year . God only knows the extent of the assurances they were given to let that saga drag on for as long as it did .

We turned to Ange ,to give him his debut on a European stage ,he may have lacked experience of the european scene but he never lacked self belief and bal*s .

For this guy to come to our club and pick the team off the floor and instil pride ,professionalism and self improvement in not only the football side but the whole football set up is nothing short of inspirational .

If we seal this title ,it will be one of the most satisfying league triumphs in my time watching the bhoys and by doing it playing football the way football should be played is the icing on the cake .

So if come Sunday we prevail ,I am going to propose a toast to the BIG man from Oz for reminding everyone that football is an entertainment business and should be played at all times with that in mind .

  21. I wonder if Ange will progress to doing a BR style change of subs at half time. The Livi match early in the season, imho changed his attitude to substitutions whereby he now makes them earlier rather than focussing entirely on performance management of the first 11.

I wonder if he’ll reflect on the last game against Oldfirmco and think ‘I could change it up earlier’!

As things stand at present we have umpteen candidates for player of the year, but should the unthinkable happen – a 6 point lead with 4 games to go isn’t a shoe in – we won’t have any, they will all be duds.

Player of the season best discussed once we know the final outcome of the season, which hopefully will be on Sunday.

Just another way of me saying I think todays article is a wee bit premature :-)

For me I have nothing but great admiration for young Tony Ralston . I admit I was one of that bhoys harshest critics and just could not see a future for him at Celtic .

So when I get to have that toast to Big Ange with D66 it will help wash down that Big slice of humble pie I will have to eat regards Young Tony .
