ROGIC WAITS FOR WORLD CUP CALL

TOM ROGIC, on fire for club and country, is hoping to start for Australia in their World Cup qualifier against Jordan in Sydney tomorrow.

The Celtic midfielder, following his memorable last-gasp winning goal at Kilmarnock, kept the run going when he came on as a substitute and netted two for the Socceroos in last week’s 7-0 victory over Tajikistan in Adelaide.

Rogic’s all-round display has given the 23-year-old playmaker the opportunity of being in Ange Postecoglou’s line-up for the kick-off. The Hoops ace could play alongside Massimo Luongo and Aaron Mooy in the crucial tie with three more points a must for his nation.

Asked if he would go with three in midfield, the national boss replied: “It depends. The way were evolving our play, it’s not just those three competing for spots.

“It’s a great weapon to have. If I start with Aaron or Mass, I can throw Tom on for the last half-an-hour and no opposing team is going to like that.

“If I start with Tom and Mass, I can thrown Aaron on. Or all three.

“At the same time we have a structure. In the past we’ve been guilty as a national team of trying to fit all our best players into one team.

“Now their role in the team might be 90 minutes or 30 or five.

”I know people want a settled formation and get comfort in that, but it’s worked well for us to keep everyone on edge so far.”
