Ronaldo, Ali and the pantomime act

441

I read critical comments on Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments after Iceland had the temerity to take a point from Portugal last night and recalled some of the heartfelt and genuine affection expressed last week for Muhammad Ali.

“Graceless”, “disrespectful” and “unsporting” was the general tone, which is pretty much what was levelled at Muhamad when he called Joe Frazier an “Uncle Tom”, surely the pinnacle of a career sending disrespectful barbs towards opponents.

I could listen to and watch Muhammad all day long, he was forever a treat to sport and the world, but had he shut his mouth and JUST boxed only actual boxing fans would know his name now.

Ronaldo sounds like he’s taken lessons from The Greatest. At first pass it doesn’t look like it, but when he reacts churlishly after a disappointment, he helps make football a bigger sport, just as Ali did for boxing. And just like Ali, many will want Ronaldo and Portugal to lose, just to take the smug grin off his face. That’s why sport engages so many, but if you loved Ali, be consistent and cheer on Ronnie.

I’ve read and enjoyed some of what this pantomime act they’ve signed across the city has been saying this month. Good luck to him, he’s sheer entertainment. Anyone who can give it thick to royalty, mix with certain councillors, shout for Celtic, then tell Newco to cheer for him as he takes millions from them, deserves some slack.

Brexit solely on the fast tracking of turkey into the EU, a country that still accommodates slave markets has no place in civilised society and anyone that supports turkey’s entry has no place making decisions that will affect the UK and Cameron is one of the first offenders.

I don’t really get the comparison.

EU is a great idea which I think most people would hope to work yet most people can see it’s failing. A very corrupt, bureaucratic and insanely expensive organisation. If they agreed to rip it up and start again then I’d be all for it, but no one seems to admit it’s not working.

  4. Not really following Brexit but all the Polls seem to indicate a Leave Vote yet the Bookmakers still have remain as Favs albeit the odds have dropped a lot in last 2 or 3 weeks. Do they know something that we don’t or are they relying on people in the last minute fearing change and sticking with states quo.

  5. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Corky,

I’d expect that is the reasoning behind the bookies, same with the Indy debate most people are afraid of change, what they don’t appear to understand is that the status quo will mean greater change.

  10. France nearly paying the price for their managers stupidity.Arguably the best midfield at the tournament. He leaves out Pogba, which puts Payet in a different position, and leaves out one of Europes best strikers. He got it right late on.Unlucky Albania, but I thought the second half from France was terrific.Could go all the way.

  11. Anytime I have seen Nathan Dyer,he has looked OK.Very quick.

Love Tommy Boyd sticking it too wee Joey.Priceless.

  12. I don’t know about slave markets, and I can’t believe I’m agreeing with canamalar, but Turkey should never be allowed into the EU.

Rapidly Islamising, bombing its Kurdish minority, never acknowledged its genocide of the Christian Armenians in 1915 and locks up anyone who so much as mentions it, imprisoning journalists who criticise its virtual dictator Erdogan, pushing for persecutions of foreigners who mock Erdogan, links with ISIS and porous borders with Syria and Iraq; Turkish membership would be a nightmare scenario.

It is not part of Europe either geographically or culturally and allowing it into Europe would be one more, giant step towards the Islamisation of the continent.

  13. The main reason Turkey should be nowhere near the EU,is the corrupt, despotic tyrant running the country.I know the West are ignorant of what really goes on here, but it would really stretch the credibility of most people.

  14. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

The west are not ignorant they are turning a blind eye, and limiting the exposure.

Well after today’s effort, I am going to move into financial advice as a career.

If you had followed my advice re SKY TV, you could have saved £32 this month alone on Sky tv. Then if you had invested the £32 saved on my treble bet posted this morning (Slovakia win, France win, Romania draw), you would have had a return of £432.

So £432 plus your other eleven months savings of £32 per month on Sky (£352) equals £784 better off.

Now, will I be so accurate with my predictions tomorrow? Hmmmmmm ;)

Correct.Up until this Dictator grabbed power Turkey was not a Secular country. This guy is trying, and succeeding in many areas to make all schools religious schools. He has jailed every General, around 160,and replaced them with his own men.For the 1st time the army is powerless.Same with the police. No free press now.Journalists who do not toe the party line, jailed. Many newspapers have closed. He openly buys oil from ISIS,and uses the cover of the war to continue his attacks on the Kurds.Too much too mention, and yet Cameron and the like sit at the same table with this out and out Muslim extremist.

Collum a laughing stock again, his time is up,no major cup finals ,or the highest profile game of the season for him. His time as Dallas/SFA high profile Catholic bitch has expired ,promoted well beyond his capabilities. I would not have him in charge of a school team game…..allegedly….

Just back from a very enjoyable junior game, the Eiroscot league cup final between Greenock and Pollok.

It ended up with that lovely scoreline , 7 1 to Pollok.

Very entertaining game, no prima donna stuff from all the players , the physios hardly on the pitch and some really good goals scored by Pollok.

Some good interacltion between young Pollok fans with the players and management after the game.

I was delighted for Pollok boss, Tony McInally , top guy and tim.
