Ronny introduces an edge on Celtic languid style

558

Ronny Deila introduced an interesting edge following yesterday’s preseason friendly against Rapid Vienna, saying his players’ “body language wasn’t good.  I can accept not playing well but the most important thing has to be the attitude and that was lacking”.

Noting a “lack of energy and that players “looked tired” is par for the course at this time of year but adding “we need to do something with their attitude” gives you an indication of what is expected of the players this season.

Celtic players have for a while now been criticised, fairly or otherwise, for languid body language.  Caught between Premiership games against teams they are vastly better than, and Champions League games they need to raise performances for, coaches would need to work hard to raise the heartbeat for domestic football.  I suspect its’ this Ronny was targeting, instead of a preseason warm-up.

Does anyone know how to stretch hamstrings prior to kicking the ball?  It’s incredible that professional footballers, and Celtic players in particular, are so commonly afflicted by this injury.  All it takes is one incomplete warm-up routine and a player is out of action for weeks.

Bids for the European Cup canvass, signed by Billy McNeill, close shortly after noon today.  Keep an eye on the action here.  You can buy a raffle ticket for the second canvass for as little as £1 here.

Funds are going towards the Cookie Jar Foundation and Glasgow the Caring City.  Many thanks for your fantastic help.

  4. If we were offered between £10-15 million for VVD,I would take it.I like the boy,but I have this feeling we could end up regretting not taking this kind of money for him.Looks to me to have a wee bit of a weight problem.Move Lustig to CH,Adam to right back, bring in a couple of quality players.(I know,I know).Talking of weight,Pukki, who a few of us mentioned last season, has got a right wee fat bahookey on him, getting bigger,or shorts getting smaller?.

I thought the idea of these pre-season games was to get the TEAM fit for the qualifiers. The”Tufty twins”looked woefully short of match practice yesterday.I thought it very strange that Griffiths was not on full game.Guys like Derk,Balde, etc, will not be involved, but guys like Biton, sitting on the bench. No game time.

Maybe its just me,but I cant see how sitting on the bench gets players fit.

    Same old,same old for me.

Thanks. We’re hoping everyone has a good time over here, but with the game on local TV, we’re not sure how many DD fans will attend. We talked to the owner of the pubs, to see if it’s possible to have a band with some ‘party tunes’, but it’s too short notice to organise (not many bands of that persuation based in DD), but I’m sure the appropriate music will be played and a few sing-songs before and after the game, had by all!

  8. Re the hamstring injury. Paul67 i would contend that strtching them may be the problem. Active warm ups do just that – warm up muscles, lengthen fibres etc.

Static Stretching takes some of the heat out of the muscle. I am amazed that pro footballers still do static stretches before matches and training.

General rule these days is ‘active warm up’ before sports, static stretching afterwards.

Surely Biton must be carrying an injury or he would have been given some game time over the two games.A plus though has been the form of Kayal he has looked good and is returning to some form and many of the youngsters have looked the part so Rony cant be to unhappy with what he sees. H.H.

  10. I hope this is as critical as Ronny gets in public.

Players dont redpond to too much of it.

That said I think the Daily Record overplayed what he actually said.

Nir Biton will get more game time until Scott Brown is fit again.

Could be the making of Biton.Hope SBs injury not as bad as first feared.

  12. Just watched yesterday’s game and must comment on the ole body language malarkey, if I was breathing in all that smoke billowing around the park my body language wouldn’t be too hot either.

    Hail! Hail !

  13. I think Ronny said that Biton is a couple of weeks away from playing. I suspect the team that started the last 2 games are the favoured team for the Iceland game. He gave them 45 mins together first day and 60 minutes second day. I reckon he will rest most of them tomorrow and more or less play his “Iceland” team in last warm up. There will be a few tweaks like FF & Emilio taking over from Zaluska and Twardzik. However Ronny seems determined to persevere with Derk, he signaled out both him and Pukki for special mention after Vienna game.

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Derk unfortunately in my opinion just doesnt appear to have any heart he has pace but hides in the game and I think for Rony to change him he will have to make the proverbial pig out of the sows ear.In my opinion we should move him on if we can get a buyer. H.H.

borgo – you could be right about the effects of DP’s condition on his game, but I don’t believe he was diagnosed with ME until after he retired from the game.

Think he was just one of those guys who didn’t put enough into his warm up routine.

    Hi all,

    Long time no log in!

If Delia is worried about ball retention, why the feck has he not played Biton yet? Is he injured? We have played some of our best football with him at the heart of the team.

  20. Re: players attitudes, i’m sure i heard Ronny shouting;

Re stretching: Who’s in charge of it? Coaching staff? Trainers? Individual players? I was never professional — hah! — but I *always* stretched for 30 minutes before a match, working all my leg muscles, as well as back, arm, etc. Being a fat guy, and only pulled up lame once, yet professionals seem to do it much more often …

Davie Provan seemed to pick up injuries every time he came on to a game.

And when he came on to a game he was unplayable!

I remember watching him dancing rings round the huns at Ibrox-I was in the enclosure,as usual. Turns out it was the venue for many future CQNers back then. He left one in particular on the floor, doing the dead fly wi twisted blood.
