Ronny’s Aberdeen-Salzburg dilemma

1430

Before the second leg against Maribor I went into detail about how important it was for Ronny Deila to rest his players.  He did, we lost to Inverness and players spent the bulk the Maribor game looking like strangers.

Since then players’ propensity to look strangers has increased, with the arrival of Stefan Scepovic, John Guidetti and Wakaso Mubarak, not to mention the anticipated return of Aleks Tonev.  Ronny has some serious decisions to make.

Does he flood the team with all this new blood, or allow them time to build match fitness and familiarity?  New blood is badly needed but so is team cohesion.

Any decision for Aberdeen will be made with the visit to Salzburg one week today in mind.  On paper, away to the top seed is our most difficult Europa League game, so we have to be ready.

My expectation is that three, if not all four, of the above will feature heavily on Saturday, which will inform Ronny ahead of his choices for Europe.

Fancy some comfy seats at the Aberdeen game and helping Mary’s Meals as well?  The Club’s main sponsor Magners have again offered us two premium seat tickets for the Jock Stein Stand, which you can win by answering the following question:

Who do Celtic play in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday, 13 September 2014?

Optionally….. if you have £1 available, please donate £1 to Mary’s Meals at this MyDonate page, which sends your £1 straight to Mary’s Meals, then send me your confirmation email, with your contact details to celticquicknews@gmail.com  Competition closes noon on Friday, so get your entries in now and watch your inbox on Friday afternoon.

You can donate more than £1, if you like, but £1 from as many people as possible will be gratefully received, as, like many organisations working in Africa right now, they are encountering a wave of additional ebola-related challenges.

Thanks for helping.

Terms and Conditions of the competition apply and are available here.

The only thing that will get politics off this blog is 5-0 doing from Aberdeen tomorrow!!

don’t even think that would do either :(

    Looks an exciting team. But it’s 4 2 4

You are basically giving the midfield to Aberdeen who will play 4 5 1

    They would dominate the midfield

I’m heading up to Stonehaven this afternoon for the weekend.

We’ve got family there and they all support the Dons.

I’ll be in the middle of them in a pub tomorrow watching the game.

So, we had better bl88dy win!

AHMAD had claimed he was owed £500,000 in unpaid bonuses from Rangers. The case will be formally taken out of court in the next few days.

RANGERS have agreed an out-of-court settlement with former commercial director Imran Ahmad, who was suing the club for breach of contract.

Ahmad last week won the right to arrest £620,000 from the club’s bank account pending the court case in light of their ongoing financial difficulties.

Rangers were given leave to appeal that Court of Session decision with their case due to be heard in two months, but they announced an imminent end to the case in a statement to the London Stock Exchange on Friday morning.

Ahmad had claimed he was owed £500,000 in unpaid bonuses from Rangers.

The statement read: “Rangers have agreed formal terms of settlement with former commercial director Imran Ahmad regarding his current court action.

“The sum agreed is significantly less than the total amount which Mr Ahmad had been granted permission to arrest.

“As part of the settlement terms Mr Ahmad has agreed to refrain from arresting funds in Rangers’ bank account or in the hands of others pending the formal removal of the case from court.

“No such arrestment will now take place.

“The case will be formally taken out of court in the next few days.”

Do you want to see big changes at Rangers?

Ahmad was Charles Green’s main partner when his consortium took control of Ibrox in an assets purchase of the liquidation-hit Rangers in June 2012.

He left his role in April 2013, while Green had quit as chief executive the previous week following claims over links with former Rangers owner Craig Whyte.

The news of the settlement came hours below the deadline for applications for the latest Rangers share issue, from which the club hope to raise almost £4million.

When the issue was launched two weeks ago, the board issued warnings about their ability to meet financial obligations if the fundraising exercise fails.

I think we need to pack the midfield tomorrow to match up against Aberdeen, this is where Ronny needs to start listening to people around him on how the opposition will play. John Collins should know this, hopefully Ronny listens and learns that in some games we will need to dig in against some teams.

Oh and Oscar Pistorius has just gotten away with murder.

Funny how we see things differently. I thought Galloway was great and I thought the fella accusing him of rape apologist was a disgrace from early doors. The two women just kept shouting at each other. Thought the kids in the audience was the real stars – a great showcase for Scottish talent.

As you can tell I know nothing about it and loathe to interfere as I’m an outsider and wish a fine country with fine people all the very best in whatever it decides.

Anyway, glad the football is back…

Play Mubarak wide left and tell Izzy to stay put at the back.

    That might work.

    ——–

If Mubarak can cover back too, interchanging with Lizzie where necessary, we could have a pairing like Jackie Mac and Sid Donnelly – that would be good!

Genuine question…. does anyone know what the UK Prime minister’s position is on europe ? Does he want out or does he want to stay in when their referendum comes around ? How about the Labour guy whatever his name is and the deputy dawg from the liberals ? What is their position ? Will they all campaign and convince us to STAY in Europe as we would be even better together ?

Cameron’s position on Europe is that he is already planning to avoid a simple In or out referndum in Europe. In this he will have the full support of Miliband and Clegg.
