Ronny’s Aberdeen-Salzburg dilemma

1430

Before the second leg against Maribor I went into detail about how important it was for Ronny Deila to rest his players.  He did, we lost to Inverness and players spent the bulk the Maribor game looking like strangers.

Since then players’ propensity to look strangers has increased, with the arrival of Stefan Scepovic, John Guidetti and Wakaso Mubarak, not to mention the anticipated return of Aleks Tonev.  Ronny has some serious decisions to make.

Does he flood the team with all this new blood, or allow them time to build match fitness and familiarity?  New blood is badly needed but so is team cohesion.

Any decision for Aberdeen will be made with the visit to Salzburg one week today in mind.  On paper, away to the top seed is our most difficult Europa League game, so we have to be ready.

My expectation is that three, if not all four, of the above will feature heavily on Saturday, which will inform Ronny ahead of his choices for Europe.

Fancy some comfy seats at the Aberdeen game and helping Mary’s Meals as well?  The Club’s main sponsor Magners have again offered us two premium seat tickets for the Jock Stein Stand, which you can win by answering the following question:

Who do Celtic play in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday, 13 September 2014?

Optionally….. if you have £1 available, please donate £1 to Mary’s Meals at this MyDonate page, which sends your £1 straight to Mary’s Meals, then send me your confirmation email, with your contact details to celticquicknews@gmail.com  Competition closes noon on Friday, so get your entries in now and watch your inbox on Friday afternoon.

You can donate more than £1, if you like, but £1 from as many people as possible will be gratefully received, as, like many organisations working in Africa right now, they are encountering a wave of additional ebola-related challenges.

Thanks for helping.

Terms and Conditions of the competition apply and are available here.

Rudi Vata did indeed score a late goal that day against the old Rangers club. Incredibly, our back 4 that day was Vata at RB, Tosh McKinlay LB with Boyd and B O’Neil the centre halves.

Dead rubber of a game – we won 3-0 but the championship was already gone. The crowd was a staggeringly pathetic 31,000.

I trust your “facts” are verifiable? Is this just more unionist/nationalist (delete as appropriate) propaganda?

  5. monaghan1900- did Sally throw his considerable weight behind the guy Interplod are after? He’s backed every other conman.

  6. Great to see Philvis back. Now he’s feeding the wean with a silver spoon, and looking forward to introducing the child to port and overripe pheasant. I was actually going to quit the blog because it had reduced itself to petty point scoring. But when you have Auldheid, BRTH, Ernie, South of Tunis and a few more pointing out problems with politics and football, and doing it with humour, then you can’t go. It becomes a prerequisite. (N0. I don’t use a spellchecker.)

  7. Just dropped in to say a great big thank you to all who sent messages and notice of prayers said and candles lit for me during my recent stay in hospital. Being a tough supporter I did not realise that I was having a heart attack on my way home from the Maribor game. I was exhausted by the time I reached the car parked on the other side of Duke Street. Senselessly I ignored the warnings for nearly 26 hours and was duly dispatched by my doctor to the local hospital. Then on the next day I was blue lighted to the Jubilee for a cardiac procedure. In all I spent 12 days in hospital and was discharged on Monday last.

I am now resting and hoping to get back to a normal way of life though I have been warned that it would not be a good idea to climb the 23 stairs to my normal seat for some time. So having nearly given my heart for Celtic, I will have to suffer at a distance. Incidentally, one of my great nephews said to his dad during the Dundee game, “I hope Celtic score soon so that uncle Connaire will feel better.”

I have missed out on all the political stuff on here as I have not been well enough to read back over the last week’s contributions. But I do know this from all your prayers, best wishes and words of comfort that the spirit of Brother Walfrid and the founding Fathers is experienced greatly on this blog when anyone of us finds himself or herself in need. It is in those circumstances that one realises that we ‘never walk alone.’ God bless you all for that.

One of my greatest difficulties will be getting used to taking medicine daily. I am 75 years old on Friday and I have never been on medication until now. I have much to thank the good Lord for and especially for the great friends He has so often sent my way.

  8. Has Oscar Pistorious been caught greetin on TV more than Rylan (you know…that dude from the X Factor..you know…that singing competition on ITV…you know…the one with the lassie with the bum tattoo)?

  9. BT – 11.50. Think I’m out just before your dad. Apologise in advance for the slow play;-)

JonnyRambo67 – thought I was scrolling back through the night shift stuff there! Brilliant!

  10. BBC pundit Phil Neville, 37, has backed former Manchester United and England team-mate David Beckham, 39, to take on a senior role at the Football Association – or even make a move into politics

OH DEARRIE ME. AND SOME OF YOU WILL VOTE NO.

  11. Thanks for all the good wishes. As with most things in life, there is also a plus . This one is that the bang on the head has made me a bit dafter and CQN a lot more fun. Even so, I can`t stay on for long as it has been recommended I don`t drink (alcohol), watch TV/PC Monitors nor read. Any suggestions for whiling away the time `till I regain the ability to walk more than a few hundred yards?

  12. Can I stay in Bed and listen to Radio 4?

I hope I can make it to the game on Saturday. The `bad` way the Aberdeen fans behave greatly increases my desire for a victory.

    Thanks and cheerio.

    I dunno mate.

    I quite liked the idea.

If you spent waaay beyond your means and obliterated the league you’d be punished more.

    Seems fair to me :)
