Ronny’s fuel for next four months

1674

There would have been no surprise reading Ronny Deila’s ‘heaven and hell’ season in the Celtic View.  It must have been an enthralling season for the manager but, good grief, it started with an 8.6 on the Strachan Early Season Scale.

These experiences mark us.  We’ve watched footballers and managers grow weary (another word for lazy) in the past, as their early groundwork waned during good times, but memories like Legia or Maribor will inform every decision Ronny Deila makes for the next four months.  He needs to use that ‘Never again’ month as fuel right now.

Did you sign the petition yesterday to demand the Scottish Government repeal their ill-conceived nonsense of a law which the entire country outside of Holyrood, and a few elites at Police Scotland, know is an abomination?  If not, here’s your chance.

    Canamalar,

When you said ” keeping in mind Scottish football is truly dross ” with which countries were you comparing Scottish football?

  2. And minus the loans and the rest, remember any decent offer will likely result in players leaving and it won’t the dirk or any of the bench warmers the decent offers will be coming in for.

Scandinavian countries but I don’t think the Scottish league is that much better than Ireland or Wales.

    Canamalar,

If we sell every one of our good players I’ll agree with you…It’ll be a hard slog.

Now where are them goalposts…. I’m sure I left them around here somewhere??:)

    Petition signed.

Unsurprisingly I can now buy St Johnstone tickets as it seems there are a number of seats still available. I’ve decided not to go as my nephew is playing football that night so I’ll go and watch him instead.

Messi’s 2nd goal last night was just a beautiful goal, so much to admire about it!

Sky bet odds for Livingston have the SNP candidate at 1/10 odds on to win…. will make my mark later.

You’re taking longer to get your point out there these days. But you got there in the end :)

  11. Geordie..,

Got the point out a few posts ago, Ronny doesn’t want crazy tours and wants to keep the core of his team, will he be supported by the board thats the point, if so then yes we’ve got a great chance, if no then it’s in the lap of the gods again.

Aberdeen and St Johnstone have had creditable results against dutch/Scandinavian/eastern European clubs in the last couple of years.

Iv been going to league of ireland games for for along time ..apart from last 3years but still keep in touch.

Celtic aberdeen dundee utd etc would all walk that league.. as would hibs hearts.

We beat cliftonville last season quite easily from what i remember.

I also worry about our slow start each season espcially against teams who are already into their league season but our 2nd string would be enough imho to beat any irish team.

Thanks for the reply. When I posted, I did not know you were already having to deal with other queries. So, apologies for working you further by asking: Do you have any evidence that the Scandinavian Leagues are so far ahead of the Scottish League that we can be called `dross` by comparison?

Where I do agree with you is that I really do not like putting `lucrative` friendlies before team preparation. For all that Celtic is a Club who does more than its bit for charity, I often feel we seem a bit greedy in some situations. Amateurishly so for such a massive Club.

  17. Tried to post this earlier, but iPad cut ooot saying over temperature, whits that about :-)

    Anyway here goes again

As outlined by Paul, we need to be working on our Squad right now to both reduce in numbers and improve some quality

    We know going

Tonev, Wakaso, Guidetti and probably Denayer

We need to move out permanently

    Boerrigter, Balde & Pukki

    Lots of rumours around

VVD, Mulgrew & Stokes, Scepovic unsettled with Zaluska out of contract

    I would also move on

McGeogh & McGregor, with many others also wanting Mathews ( not me I’d keep)

So that’s up to 14 who could go

We need 2 new centre halfs, a new striker or 2 ? a left back as back up ?

Fans an as back up keeper, I would also sign McGinn (St M) and Jack (Ab’n)

    Thoughts ?

Hebcelt, I believe we join at round 2, with 2 & 3 to get through, not sure about our seeding either

    Hail Hail

I must admit I have trust that Ronny will have us ready for the CL qualifyers he has a lot of work over the summer getting rid of the dead wood and bringing in a few quality new players. However,I think Ronny knows what he wants and wont accept second best and I think he will get the support of the sharp suited man and the board.I think our season ticket sales will increase and if as I expect the deid team are promoted we will see a sharp increase in the crowds for home matches that is just my opinion mind. H.H.

I wouldn’t disagree with your general point, JJ. However, there is a value in the club taking the team “on the road” for the benefit of fans in far-flung locations (e.g. US and Aus.). You’re right to say it should be done purely to generate more income at the expense of important preparation. It may be the case that, in the past, managers have agreed that any preparation can be accommodated as part of these trips?

Celtic dismantled a Cliftonville team considered one of the best sides ever in Irish football even on their plastic pitch

Liam Boyce was the best player in the Irish League and he is only now starting to establish himself at Ross County

SPFL is head, shoulders knees and toes above both Irish leagues

Celtic should still buy Joe Gormley !

Lucrative friendlies involving long distance travel will not be part of the pre season.

Don’t think the board will go against his wishes.

    Do the sums.

    Small gains against potential windfall.

Jungle Jim. I sincerely hope you are proved correct in that the huns do not get up. Personally I will never attend a match against them.

However I firmly believe that it is a done deal already. The honest mistakes have been ramping up over the last few weeks. See the ludicrous penalty Hearts didn’t get last week. It’s in your face now.

Motherwell should be preparing/budgeting for a season in the Championship.

Incidentally ( and probably asked before), did the deid team promote the idea of ` free admission` at the play off games knowing it would not be allowed? That way, many more fans would turn up to show their appreciation of their Club`s efforts and also as a protest against the Authorities. End result, more money for Sevco.

I am always amused that every election, the press always go big on the ” Party leaders cast their votes” story.

What could possibly be newsworthy about that?

It would be better if standing politicians, like SPFL players were not allowed to vote for themselves. Who they chose would make a real story.

I think VVD will stay until our CL fate is known. Qualify, new extended deal with more cash and an agreement to sell next summer, get KO’d in qualifiers, sold by end of transfer window.

We need a left back, since Izzy will be away with Honduras, a centre half, to partner VVD and a striker in for the start of the CL qualifiers in July.

All current loanees will leave, and all players out on loan, with the exception of Liam Henderson, will either be sold, freed or sent out for another season to run down their contracts.

I also think that Stokes, McGregor, Scepovic and Boerrigter will be gone by the time the transfer window closes.

As well as the three we need for July we can probably add a back up keeper and another forward, minimum, to the required list.

  30. Happy Birthday to Zbyszek, Ger57 and Darma Bham,

Is there a hard and fast rule that preseason games outside western Europe cause us difficulties?

I think these games are a necessary inconvenience just so long as they are played PRE-season
