Rope-a-Dope lemmings ready to walk off cliff

704

Rangers International’s advice to shareholders, issued last night, for next week’s General Meeting is legally spot on.  They have read the contract but they’re not reading the narrative.

As they say, the club would not be bound to repay the £5m loan from MASH if shareholders vote in favour of doing so.  Repaying this loan may not be in the interests of “shareholders as a whole” (I dispute this).

In asserting these views, and winning the vote on the matter, Rangers International will surely not surprise MASH.

When someone as thorough and well-resourced as Mike Ashley puts resolutions in front of you, when his motivations are “not clear to the directors”, you have to consider if you’re in a Rope-a-Dope scenario.

Without knowing anything about Ashley’s plans, I can give you an assurance that he will expect shareholders to vote against his resolution.  He is asking for his money and expects this request to be declined.  He is also asking searching questions about the events which led to the succession of the current board.  I do not expect him to be satisfied with the answer.

The real question is, why has Ashley engineered a scenario where he has made a legitimate request for repayment and been rejected?

If you think next week’s meeting is about winning the vote you could not be more wrong.  The cynic would say Ashley wants justification for what he’s about to do next.

Those shares in Rangers Retail Ltd (RRL) which are due to be returned from MASH to Rangers International on repayment of the loan are currently worth 26% of RRL.  I wonder if they will be worth more than 0.1% of the company this time next month.

This is a classic Rope-a-Dope.  Pay him his money, do it quickly, secure as much of your Intellectual Property as you can, as quickly as you can.  This is not a matter for brinksmanship.  You stupid, stupid, lemmings are walking off a cliff.  Again!

Take it easy bud: it’s the close season, after all and, while we’re all waiting for Wimbledon and the Open, or a new series of Frasier to come along, this is well worth commenting upon.

Not least because a great many of us are eagerly looking forward to the day when we can confidently say that the out-of-marching-season social outlet for The Forces of Darkness has been defeated, once and for all …

Quite a debate. Not a lover of the repugnant Saudi hierarchy huns but we, according to CQN, aren’t entering into a partnership with SA. We are connecting to a football club.

What sort of fee we talking here?

I notice that Wanyama has been linked to the Gooners again. Hopefully a huge fee and we would have more to spend.

  8. Parkheadcumsalford and collymore – I find myself agreeing with both of you to an extent.

You cannot keep politics out of sport. The people at the top who push this want radical politics kept out of sport but they use the enormous power of sporting imagery and it’s effect on the popular psyche to great effect in presenting the narrative of the status quo.

Radical politics in sport or among followers of sport almost always comes from grass roots groups. It is these groups who need their right to express opinion in sporting arenas protected. It is the fear of establishments that has led us to the sanitisation of football – the removal of right to express solidarity and so on.

This is,where my concern lies. So Celtic will never endorse or promote a political cause other than the ones they are bid to do indirectly by other powerful groups. Groupings of Celtic supporters might and should be free to do so.

Hah! I found the article. It is in the Daily Record:

“CELTIC have reached a lucrative partnership agreement with ambitious Saudi Arabian top-flight outfit Hajer Club.

The Hoops have built up a number of worldwide affiliated clubs, including many in North America and Ireland.

But their link-up with newly-promoted Al-Ahsa-based Hajer Club will be their first partnership with a team in the Middle East.

Hajer Club chairman Sami Al-Melhem said: “This is a pioneering move for a club in Saudi Arabia.

“The partnership will benefit both clubs professionally and commercially. We will be able to use Celtic’s expertise in coaching, recruitment and the administrative side of football.

“The partnership also allows us to send the most promising players in Saudi to train at Celtic.”

Excellent post. Left to our own devices, we could find a reason not to have the arrangement with the Mexican club, not to visit America, and never play Inverness again.

I think we need to relax and consider that there just might be a real world out there, beyond our computer screens.

  19. I’m in the men’s shaving / grooming business, I came across this wee gem this afternoon, they may not have any money but they’ve got an official team barber. Something else we’ve got to be jealous about!!

The final was held at the first ever Barber UK at the Birmingham NEC, with eight finalists from around the country putting up an admirable fight as they showcased their razor-sharp wet shaving skills. It was Scotland barber Luigi Caterino, of The Italian Job Barbershop in Galashiels who eventually took the coveted crown, and we couldn’t think of a more deserving winner. Luigi was a finalist in last year’s competition, so it was great to see him go that all-important extra mile this time around and walk away triumphant. Following his win, Luigi has been approached by Rangers football Club to become their official barber, and we are thrilled to also be welcoming him on board as the latest Bluebeards ambassador.

Well im not the most financialy aware person on CQN but for me it looks as though the Rangers are heading for the buffers. Mr.King has not shown any plan on how he intends to get the ailing club back on its feet and there is no sign of him investing any of his money. They have just released eleven players and they need funds to rebuild the team for next season they also need to employ a manager and build a football structure coaches, scouts, physio etc. without a large pot of money it looks hard to see how they are going to manage it.Now on Friday the 12th they have an AGM where MA has asked for his 5 million loan to be returned now the Rangers board have said NO they wont repay it at the moment it is not in the clubs interest surely if they had the money they would be happy to repay and keep MA onside. What will happen at the AGM or shortly afterwords does not look to be good news for the club meanwhile the Rangers fans are expected to buy season books and merchandise for next season and this may be where MR.King expects to get the money to invest in the team from but will the Bears part with there cash ? that is another mystery. So things dont look good over Ibrokes way but there gullible fans are still looking for Kings Millions. H.H.

  21. Anybody know anything about the SA club Celtic have entered a footballing relationship with?

I tried Google to see if their was any mention of their history or indeed how football in SA has developed in the last 50 years and if it has had any beneficial influence on the current regime or is absolutely subject to it and cannot express it’s views/ethos under that regime.

Had I more information to make a judgement on then I might make a more fully informed judgement, whether that be to condemn Celtic’s involvement or praise it for being part of an influencing ethos.

However as my primary aim in watching Celtic is to watch good football on a level playing pitch I’ll leave the digging to those who feel strongly on the issue.

very interesting stats you posted earlier.

Paticularly, noting that “the Worlds most successful team” are not among the top 12 most successful teams in Europe!

    I wonder how that works.

  23. Auldheid I tried to find that data too, It looks a bit shifty if you ask me. Have Celtic mentioned this officially ? if not, I will treat it with the contempt the press deserve.

Up at CP earlier getting the season books. Certain areas are packed out and only the the very highest seats and the front sections where it can get wet are still half-fullish. Guy in the ticket office said definitely busier than last year but wouldn’t put a number of it.
