Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

Of the charges over the Linfield games 1 is for fans banner

Other 4 are for the players and staff( kit man)

Every 1 of these could be defended or at least questioned

Is there an opportunity to do so or as the timreaper said yesterday we are unable to question the decisions?

  4. My friends in Celtic,

Yesterday a post mentioned EUFA never charge “big” clubs. ( Apologies, can’t remember from whom ). Off the top of my head from last year I remember Man Utd, Liverpool and Dortmund being charged. I’m sure there will be others.

I see the Celtic boards statement, it is extremely unequivocal in its condemnation. Will appropriate action take place prior to July 28th.

I enjoy the atmosphere the GB bring to Parkhead, but I fear they have forced our club into an impossible position.

I am glad we are offski on holiday today, because I feel saddened that we have given our enemies a lifeline and the oxygen of publicity. The dinosaurs are laughing, a few of us have rolled back the years to their level.

I hated this horrendous tie from the minute it was drawn. A potential banana skin off the park, and am sorry to say , some of us saw it but still slipped.

I sincerely hope Celtic do not totally overreact or else the only winners will be the Huns on both sides of the water.

    HH to all. Bon voyage.

Not for a moment am I wishing retribution on these GB guys -or worse launching into a KevJ done a la Kojo pseudo-folksy monologue – just wishing these guys were a bit more savvy (KevJ is in fact right about them in a lot of ways and so was Auldheid in a post last night).

I disagree though with a sentiment that we somehow need to ‘respond’ to anything Linfield fans or Marchers [whose drums wake me up every other Saturday it seems] do. They should be beneath our contempt instead we sank to their level.

  7. I think the Linfield game brought out the worst in a lot of us, I know it did me, I was beeline’ the whole time we were involved with them. You get older and you think you’ve grown but that stuff is buried deep.

I’ve been away half my life so it took me by surprised the depth of my anger and the words out of my mouth.

I spent my angry teens and twenties at Celtic Park supporting the Hoops, I made mistakes there too and to deny our youth that chance seems still a bit off to me. The Green Brigade have brought a passion and a colour to the games that was missing for a while at Paradise and yes they have made mistakes and they may well continue to make mistakes but they’re Celtic fanatics through and through over and over.

They deserve at least the chance to grow up on the hallowed stairs and steps of Paradise.

The idea that me an middle aged fart is going to deny them that is ridiculous in the extreme, as if I or we would have listened much in those glorious 80’s:))

Celtic as One or Celtic as None in the face of those who would gladly do us down.

    Bring on The Rosenbergers:))

    Morning all

Still pretty hacked off about Wednesday. It was not the banners which offended me it was the spell just after the second goal when some old hits were belted out with such venom. I mentioned the look on my Lisburn born friend yesterday but in some ways more telling still was the reaction of a couple of Celtic supporting workmates who bith said to me ‘too much rebs last night’ (adjective omitted in one of their cases). This was Linfield we were playing – we know what they are and should know that the best way we can show how pathetically insignificant they are is to ignore them. They are as a character in The Long Good Friday said of and to Harold Shand ‘you are the sh*t on their shoes’.

I don’t know where this is leading with UEFA….

Have you never been in a Celtic bar, I mean you can’t be that shocked about a couple of rebel tunes, we’ve been singing them and they’ve been part of the songbook as long as any of us can remember!

Whatever you think about them musically or relevance to a football match, there is no sectarian element to them.

  14. I noticed that about uefa ordering a couple of sections of the Real ground to be closed, they are quite hot on racism it seems as long as it disny involve huns, they can do as they please.

    Just ask Scott Sinclair

Or any Irish-Catholic involved with Celtic, but that’s a different kinda racism so it disny count with uefa.

Shocking that anyone at Celtic Park should have any outside interests! And an absolute disgrace that someone may have the audacity to maybe also follow a club from their own part of the world, be it Ireland or England or further afield, in addition to the famous Glasgow Celtic.

That is exactly where the songs should remain. Not at Paradise.

Many of us enjoy a right sing song after games in likeminded pubs. Nobody is forced to go. If it offends you, simple; go to a different boozer.

A football ground which encapsulates all political views, all religions ( and none ) all sections of society in a modern multicultural country is not the place.

Some may then quote history and our founders, however that’s not always relevant in 2017, after all , to those of you who own a Volkswagen vehicle, I very much doubt you endorse its history.

BT- the charge and fine for 5 bookings is standard practice for UEFA, but if the Club had any balls they would have tried to get the ridculous booking for LG rescinded, taking it down to 4 yellows maybe.HH

That is your opinion, maybe you should tell the Club to stop playing the Fields of Athenry and Let the People Sing.

The question from Jim was, where this is going with UEFA. The answer is nowhere on this one. There is no charge relating to songs.

Why are some Celtic fans happy to act like the MSM at times? Essentially doing their work for them.

One charge is in relation to a banner held by one guy.

The other charges are the clubs fault.

In which case it’s time to got the big boys onside against the bullies.

UEFA are making it up as they go along. Remember our first charge, illicit chanting?

    What a crock of…

Their rules are opaque, but clear enough to them rather than those they find to have erred.

Their responsibility is to the game, not to pursue an illogical and unworkable agenda in an increasingly politicised world.

Clubs should ONLY be charged when they have broken the law. Not some petty wee rule book dreamt up by highly-paid jobsworths at highly-recompensed jollies.

  22. Much has been made of the UEFA Disciplinary Committee and how Celtic (and the perceived wee teams) always seem to be on the receiving end of their findings. Have a scroll through the attached link – think you’ll find a fair number of Last 16 CL participants feature pretty regularly.

    http://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/disciplinary/index.html

Fines typically feature; letting off fireworks, throwing objects and waving banners deemed to be inappropriate.

Take the time to scroll down the highlighted dates (approx 27 down to Monday 19th December 2016) and read their response to the Estelades Catalan Independence Display at 2 Barcelona games – spells out in great detail why UEFA are anti-political banners and displays.

IMO,best recentish comment on that subject was that anyone who thought violence never solved anything had never heard of Carthage.
