Rosenborg fail to lay glove on Celtic

505

Despite the slenderest margins between the teams over two legs, Rosenborg failed to lay a glove in earnest on Celtic in Trondheim last night. James Forrest, who likes a goal in the qualifiers, connected wonderfully with a shot from a right angle which was visible only on rebounding off the back of the net.

In a sign of things to come, Celtic were composed in possession, even deep inside their own box. This desire to take a touch and find a pass wasn’t entirely successful. Rosenborg pressed high regularly, forcing Craig Gordon into unmeasured passes to the wing.

Kieran Tierney was magnificent, especially in the first half, when he maintained a high position on the left. This gave Celtic their most reliable route to attack.

Rosenborg sprung forward at halftime, causing Celtic some consternation for a period, although Gordon was never stretched. Brendan Rodgers had the luxury of bringing Leigh Griffiths off the bench; Celtic didn’t look back.

Don’t think things are going to ease up. That 1-0 aggregate score saw us enter the final minutes able to concede once without the threat of elimination. That wasn’t the case in either the third or fourth qualifying rounds last season. I hope we’re back in the afternoons for penalty practice.

While we are one tie away from the Champions League group stage, we are also on the brink of making it out of Pot 4.  If Sevilla, Napoli, Liverpool or Olympiacos exit the competition and Celtic progress, we will be in Pot 3 for the group stage.  Olympiacos are in the champions section of the draw alongside Celtic, but they went out of the competition to Haopel Be’re Shiva last season, who lie in wait again this term.

Sevilla, Napoli and Liverpool are all in the non-champions group, where tasty opponents Nice and Hoffenheim await in the non-seeded section.  Sevilla make a Gaudi-esque art form of going out of the Champions League in the qualifiers, to let them concentrate on their main purpose in life – dominating the Europa League.  If we take care of our own business there’s a decent chance we’ll move up the rankings.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to our Mary’s Meals appeal yesterday, and to Intelligent Car Leasing, who made the magnificent offer of 4 hospitality tickets for Saturday’s league opener against Hearts.  The winner was informed by email a few minutes ago – so check!

Neither have I , mate , but I can guess what you`re driving at .

    Hail Hail yersel.

  2. Jadeyn Stockley gets the “ELBOW” from Europe….whit a shame…..Karma ?

Stockley doesnt get Europa League winners medal….real shame.

Ive read most of what HBOS and all the others were up to for years BEFORE EBTs and as KEVJUNGLE ( I think it was ?) posted, the corruption involved whilst ONLY serving and intending to ensure to give ONE CLUB a clear advantage is without doubt further documented evidence of unfair financial advantage.

Now I dont pretend to understand all that I have read so far, as I do not have a business ( or corrupt business brain), but even to an ordinary Joe like me what was going on here between HBOS and Oldco and SM, was clearly another form of Financial Doping.

When you consider at the guys Oldco were signing BEFORE EBT’s etc, Butcher, Woods, Steven, Roberts , Wilkins etc etc, at the time many including myself were asking ” how can they afford English International players” ? transfer fees and salaries ?

At the time, it was notably explained that it was largely due to English clubs being banned from Europe after Hyseel ( Liverpool v Juventus), and these English guys wanted to play in Europe ?

I admit that many others I too fell for that explanation.

However, it appears clear even to an eejit like me now, that Oldco and SM were indeed offering huge salaries in comparison to Celtic, and getting these “Better” players into Ipox to gain a clear Sporting Advantage.

Like I said, just another form of Financial Doping !

How about someone who knows Sir Rod, going to the USA and asking him to help fund the fight for Justice against ALL the corruption and cheats for the Judicial Review ( if it ever happens ?)

As for the appointed Chairperson of any Judicial Review ?…..theres only one man who’s Fit For Purpose”………..Step forward Leigh Griffiths !

  3. Sheep showing the advantage of winning the first leg 2-1, staying in the tie right up to the final seconds of injury-time, leading to an exciting finish, despite being 2 goals down, late in the match. A first leg 0-0, and the game would’ve sputtered out after the Cypriots’ second goal, of course!!

  4. As it appears that money has already been put in place to have a QC and Legal Team in place for any Judicial Review from ” Certain Funds” that are available ( if I am reading that correctly ?), it implies that perhaps the money is coming from Supporters Groups ?

If so, I sincerely hope and pray that Celtic FC WILL at the appropriate time step into the breach, and spearhead the battle ahead for Justice ?

To not be involved, would imo be gross negligence on the part of Celtic FC. All trust between Celtic FC and the majority of the support would be be broken beyond repair imo.

In my uneducated eyes, I have to ask ” What have Celtic FC got to lose” ?

Anyways, perhaps Celtic FC have every intention of fighting ALL the corruption at some stage, for the moment I live in hope.

  6. A certain ” Shark” paper here in Scotland, has conducted a Poll earlier this week.

The question is ” What player is the best summer signing in Scotland” ?

A certain Bruno Alves had 36% of the vote, 15% ahead of Celtics Ntcham.

I believe I am right in saying that Alves hasn’t kicked a ball in a competitive game yet, if so did he play some part in the humiliation against Progre of Luxemburg ?

Even if he did ?….just yet another example of how feckin delusional the Hun support is.

Bruno Alves……The Griff Mans BITCH !

One sheep fan thought it was okay to throw his lit cigarette at us ( wee Shades has an asthma condition) another tired TO spit in our direction but was unaware of the affects of spitting into a strong wind , when cigarette guy was challenged he must have remembered kick-off was fast approaching as he took off towards hamdump at a great rate.

  18. embramike supporting Res 12 on

Tough call for today’s draw opponents preferences when you consider travelling, pitch quality, temperatures, previous encounters, match readiness, politics, atmosphere etc, but I suppose most important is quality of opposition.

So basically there are plusses and minuses for each opponent. We played Slavia Prague in pre-season drew 0-0 but were pretty dominant. Would be my preference especially as travelling is reasonable.

Also initially thought away first, but going to Norway knowing 1 goal would likely win the tie worked for us. So basically regardless of who we draw and where, It’s how we play over both legs that will decide the outcome. None of the unseeded teams will want to draw us !

  19. Received a letter from Mr Hawthorn. Copied, I think, to everyone in the Rail Seating Section.

Basically a list of the forbidden actions summed up as “stand perfectly still and occassionally clap politely”. Has left me with the gut renching feeling of “what’s the point”.

A letter such as this should have also contained a choice to cancel the season book for a full refund. Or at least to reallocate elsewhere.

    To be continued….
