I was wrong – watching their goal again it wasn’t a case of the CBs getting outmuscled, it was a simple punt up the pitch and the RC centre forward getting between Starfelt and Ralston who just missed it. Jenz seems to be getting the blame for it but Starfelt was more culpable imo
I agree, there’s no way CCV would have let the RC player get the header in unchallenged, the ball travelled about 70 yards. Strange as I’ve always thought Starfelt was better under long balls than Welsh and I’d forgotten Welsh had gone off injured so I’d assumed he’d been outmuscled
The glass jaw people talked about last season seemed to have been strengthened but leaving out CCV for one game showed its still a vulnerability

Another fan view on Abilgaard
He’s a physically imposing midfielder who is mainly a strong defender. He’ll run a ton, win alot of headers, tackle a lot, and in build up he will do the simple thing and mostly not be too involved in the last third of the pitch. He is, by definition, a *defensive* (!) midfielder. But he’s a good one. He made the Team of the Season in Russia last year (20/21 season) where Rubin Kazan finished fourth. He was, along with guys like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Dorde Despotovic, part of an extremely important group of non-Russian players that made Rubin Kazan as good as they were. When that group of players left in the wake of the Russian invasion, Rubin Kazan plummeted immediately and was relegated.
But yeah, you’re getting a guy who was one of the best defensive midfielders in the Russian league pre-invasion.
I agree he might not be an auto pick but maybe the type of player for certain games. It takes all types and AP is backing up Mooy Idegucci and McCarthy, all variants of a DM. The starting formation and tactic won’t change much under AP, but the game is now more and more about who’s on the bench. Ours this season, has been pass remarkable and the window is wide open.

BSR,
He’ll be an auto-pick for the matches that matter. Great choice to have and a very different one from the others in midfield. Delighted we’ve finally got that profile in the mix.

David Sansun watches a lot of Russian football and says this about Abildgaard
“OK I’m seeing Oliver Abildgaard being linked to Celtic.
I put the dampeners on Starfelt and Haksabanovic, but Abildgaard is a top, top quality player and would be very comfortable in the SFPL.
Would be an unbelievable signing.
Rubin were just nowhere near as good when he wasn’t in the team.
Great ball winning midfielder, a little aggressive, big, strong, good mentality. Keeps things simple on the ball, very left footed but also very comfortable with the ball.”
Far more positive than Rubin Kazan’s league position and goals conceded would suggest. He was out for ten games with injury last season when they dropped more points than when he was in the team but didnt conceded any less goals. it doesn’t look like he picks up a lot of injuries which is a positive for a cdm

BSR – Ange has yet to make a bad signing. He sounds like an upgrade on Nir, a utility player who can help out both defence and midfield. Shame we didn’t have him a few weeks ago. Might have been the obvious choice to put in against Lundstrum.

Good to read – far more positive. He’s got his work cut out making the starting 11 ahead of calmac and the pasty Pirlo but he definitely looks like a decent option for the occasional backs to the wall stuff.

The guy winning the header was one thing, the fact that there appeared to be two RC players, unmarked and waiting for it on the 6-yard line, was more of a concern. I thought they were offside to be fair, not sure who played them on as there didn’t seem to be any protest from us.
Ross County could have had a goal in the first few minutes when they were right up for it, we then went up the park and hit the bar and then again a few minutes later and took control of the game from there.
As an aside, I thought Siegrist looked a more than capable back up to Hart.

We seem to consciously slow the game down after half time a lot. It could be that we’re countering the extra energy the opposition get after half time but I think we’re pacing ourselves to be able to go hard for the final 20 minutes.
But I think everything we do is down to Ange’s genius :)

I think a lot of it comes down to RC pressing better and with more energy after the break. We weren’t at our fluent best for a while but their goal came from a long punt from the keeper and they only had one other genuine attempt the whole game.
