Rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox

423

Few will be surprised that the Takeover Appeal Board (TAB) ruled Dave King acted in concert with George Taylor Douglas Park and George Letham when buying a controlling interest in Newco Rangers two years ago, another “favourable settlement”, you could say.

In their statement, TAB wrote, “Over the last two years Mr King has had ample opportunity to disclose documents and to provide other evidence to rebut any deeming, presumption or inference from the evidence that he was acting in concert with Messrs Letham, Taylor and Park. He has not done so.”

So far, so clear-cut, but while this is an unwelcome distraction (or more) to Dave, King, I genuinely hope he has the wherewithal to fund any necessary share purchase. It is difficult to overestimate the extent to which King’s position inhibits Newco.

The club will go nowhere while it remains in his clutches. It is far from clear who would pick up the years of potential liabilities should he exit (forget Sugar Daddy fantasies), but better the devil we know – when we know so much about him.

We have the perfect controller of Newco. He leads through PR dictate, appeals to the lowest common denominator, sat as a director through Oldco’s ignominious demise, and appears to have enough funding capacity to get them as high as third in the league.

I will rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the Lisbon canvass raffle for Alzheimer Scotland. The competition is now closed and we raised an incredible £3264. The winner has been in touch, so if you don’t know already, unfortunately, it’s not you.

This has been another small excerpt in the Great Celtic Story. Well done.

Good grief! Now we have Maurice Johnston of all people saying Rangers (sic) need investment. Scottish football needs a strong Rangers (sic).

It’s incredible – all these people coming out and saying the same thing COMPLETELY INDEPENDENTLY of one another.

I wonder who the next one to have the exact same thought will be……?

I’m not sure how Cack senor will do but I have a feeling Brendan will be around long enough to see off more than one Sevconian ‘top target’ manager.

  8. Forrest or Roberts?

I like wee Paddy but it’s Forrest for me. He offers much more in the context of the team, sometimes he’s rubbish mind you, but aren’t they all. On Sunday, Wallace aka ‘the grass’ hardly went up field, until Roberts came on that is, then he starting pushing on, at one one point he was running up the outside and Roberts didn’t spot him or once look over his shoulder to see where he was. Roberts is a good impact player, he has so much quality on the ball and potential to kick on but at this stage of his career he is a liability in a defensive context. It’s looking increasingly likely he wont be here next year so naturally that puts Forrest in the box seat. I think Paddy will leave in the summer and another will come in.

I personally think we should do all in our power to prevent him refereeing another of our games. He is worse than Beaton, Thomson and Collum put together.

    Saturday 14th March

Again, another uneventful somewhat boring day. My weight is 58.25 kgs, and no medical complaints. I read the papers, which are full of trash.

Tonight’s tea was pie and beans, and although hunger may fuel my imagination (it looked a powerful-sized meal), I don’t exaggerate: the beans were nearly falling off the plate. If I said this all the time to the lads, they would worry about me, but I’m all right.

It was inviting (I’m human too) and I was glad to see it leave the cell. Never would I have touched it, but it was a starving nuisance. Ha! My God, if it had have attacked, I’d have fled.

I was going to write about a few things I had in my head but they’ll wait. I am looking forward to the brief company of all the lads at Mass tomorrow. You never know when it could be the last time that you may ever see them again.

I smoked some cigarettes today. We still defeat them in this sphere. If the Screws only knew the half of it; the ingenuity of the POW is something amazing. The worse the situation the greater the ingenuity. Someday it may all be revealed.

On a personal note, Liam Og (the pseudonym for Bobby Sands’ Republican Movement contact on the outside), I just thought I’d take this opportunity tonight of saying to your good hard-working self that I admire you all out there and the unselfish work that you all do and have done in the past, not just for the H-Blocks and Armagh, but for the struggle in general.

I have always taken a lesson from something that was told me by a sound man, that is, that everyone, Republican or otherwise, has his own particular part to play. No part is too great or too small, no one is too old or too young to do something.

There is that much to be done that no select or small portion of people can do, only the greater mass of the Irish nation will ensure the achievement of the Socialist Republic, and that can only be done by hard work and sacrifice.

So, mo chara, for what it’s worth, I would like to thank you all for what you have done and I hope many others follow your example, and I’m deeply proud to have known you all and prouder still to call you comrades and friends.

On a closing note, I’ve noticed the Screws have been really slamming the cell doors today, in particular my own. Perhaps a good indication of the mentality of these people, always vindictive, always full of hate. I’m glad to say that I am not like that.

Well, I must go to rest up as I found it tiring trying to comb my hair today after a bath.

So venceremos, beidh bua againn eigin la eigin. Sealadaigh abu.

    (Translated, this reads as follows:)

So venceremos, we will be victorious someday. Up the Provos.

  14. GLENDAYSTONSILS

I agree, but unless the club start calling out these cheats who masquerade as referees, nothing but nothing will change. We have suffered this for decades and still it goes on. i’m firmly in the Masonic conspiracy camp not putting it down to incompetence as I’ve seen it happen too many times over the years. The more we rise the worse it gets, as it chokes them when Timmy is on top.

  15. Its some thing to look forward to , even more madhun performances from the mibs awaiting their next gig against us . Cant understand why our custodians are not as angry as the supporters . This should be challenged by the plc , if not , why not .and if as we suspect they do nothing , can all the different CSC groups , not get together to discuss a way of doing something to highlight this unbelievable rotten practice against our club .this must be taken on .

  16. My brother in law is a blue nose— other than that he is OK. He is convinced that EVERYBODY has it in for his team. The Record, the SFA….anyone in the media. Celtic ALWAYS get the penalty. Whenever we talk I listen to him ….No point in arguing, it’ll just prove his opinion is right

  17. Like some others here, I e-mailed JP Taylor after the Sevco game and said that the Club owed it to Supporters to stand up against blatantly unfair referees. I also made mention of Madden’s known Hun affiliations & suggested that the least the Club might do, was to call for the SFA to change the system and to start by insisting every Referee declare what Club he either grew up supporting or currently supports.

From there, that Referee not to be considered for games involving his declared team.

I received a standard reply which stated that he understood my concern, that he was prohibited from commenting on same but that there was a system whereby Clubs rated the performance of a Referee after each game and that this assessment would be forwarded to the relative Authorities. He finished by saying my concerns would be forwarded to top Management of Club.

  18. JIMTIM,

I think your idea re the Association of Celtic Supporters Club holding a feasibility study on how best to highlight blatant cheating by Referees has a lot of merit.

Just took a quick look at Phil’s twitter account and opened link to Madden’s red card to Wanyama and penalty awarded against Izzy in the game v St. Mirren. Both disgraceful decisions. Perhaps if there is a compilation of more of his “honest mistakes” which we could widely circulate and mock any smokescreen of mistakes rather than bias we could put the spotlight on their chicanery. Truth will out. HH

  21. In bygone days when Celtic won the Big Cup, and 9 in a row, no one cared about the financial aspects of the club. It’s only when things got bad, and the Murray lamb, that this began to be highlighted. Nowadays it goes hand in hand with everything about football. EPL does nothing else but talk about how rich their league is and completely ignores their teams lack of success in the Champions League and it’s country’s failure in major tournaments. If Celtic’s financial figures were as good as they are today and the team on the park were failing, then that would be something to complain about. Remember we most certainly downgraded 2 1/2 years ago and the howl of protest was loud and long. Can’t have your cake and eat it por cierto

  22. Rock Tree Bhoy on

Just passing and thought – quite interesting that it was all over for Ronnie’s when he could only manage a draw with sevco at Hampden, yet we’ve reacted to Brendan’s draws with sevco completely differently, much more positive, which of course is basically because Brendan has us playing much more positive football than Ronnie did – and of course we never lost a penalty shoot out.

If we do win the treble and go thru the season undefeated Brendan of course will go into the records books as a Celtic hero for evermore, wonder though how much slack he has with the Celtic support should neither of those things happen. In that case the only positive I can see is he would be much more challenged much more up for it to get the treble next season, whereas if he gets it this season……..Europe?

As my Dad used to say, never argue with idiots, at the end of the argument they’ll still be an idiot and you’ll have wasted your time.

Looking for some info on places of interest and good restaurants in Berlin for my mate and his wife who are visiting shortly on a ‘city break’

Last time I was in Berlin Checkpoint Charlie was a ‘ working entity’ rather than a ‘ place of historical interest’ !! (1964).

Speaking of that year (nearly) I missed the 1965 League Cup final in 1965 as I was attending a cousin’s wedding. A brother of the bride went to the game!!! We were both members of the Saltcoats CSC at the time.

Might be coincidence but he was single :) :) .

Had a look at the Hootsman since it was mentioned a lot on here, verging on obsession with everything sevco. Do they honestly think there is a mass of Hun’s willing to buy the paper as they channel down this proHun propaganda route? Bizarre to say the least!

  26. Hrvatski Jim, An Tearmann

Funnily enough the Hun never even mentioned those legendary triumphs when we did our calculations.

There are possibly two reasons for this:

    1. He was too embarrassed to attempt to assign them any points.

    2. He inadvertently acknowledged that they, of course, were won by an entirely different club!

I’ll text him later to wind him up, perhaps with a Celtic v Sevco points system.

I should assign points to each of the different embarrassments they’ve suffered in order of which ones made us laugh the most.

For example, “Same Old Alloa, Always Cheating” – 50 points

Losing their first petrofanny cup final to Raith – 75 points

Suffering a 6-1 humiliation to the mighty Motherwell in the premiership play off – 100 points

Going for 55 in August to celebrating a draw to maintain the 33 point gap in March – priceless

These organisations have some clever guys heading them up . I would like to see them get together and figure out a way to combat this injustice . There is something amiss when our club continue to accept being cheated .

If a football club is not well run and successful off the park – there will NOT be a successful squad on the park – there are many many examples – not least in Govan of course.
