Rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox

423

Few will be surprised that the Takeover Appeal Board (TAB) ruled Dave King acted in concert with George Taylor Douglas Park and George Letham when buying a controlling interest in Newco Rangers two years ago, another “favourable settlement”, you could say.

In their statement, TAB wrote, “Over the last two years Mr King has had ample opportunity to disclose documents and to provide other evidence to rebut any deeming, presumption or inference from the evidence that he was acting in concert with Messrs Letham, Taylor and Park. He has not done so.”

So far, so clear-cut, but while this is an unwelcome distraction (or more) to Dave, King, I genuinely hope he has the wherewithal to fund any necessary share purchase. It is difficult to overestimate the extent to which King’s position inhibits Newco.

The club will go nowhere while it remains in his clutches. It is far from clear who would pick up the years of potential liabilities should he exit (forget Sugar Daddy fantasies), but better the devil we know – when we know so much about him.

We have the perfect controller of Newco. He leads through PR dictate, appeals to the lowest common denominator, sat as a director through Oldco’s ignominious demise, and appears to have enough funding capacity to get them as high as third in the league.

I will rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the Lisbon canvass raffle for Alzheimer Scotland. The competition is now closed and we raised an incredible £3264. The winner has been in touch, so if you don’t know already, unfortunately, it’s not you.

This has been another small excerpt in the Great Celtic Story. Well done.

  1. BBC’s Dave King correspondent giving his staunch, nightly defence of his leader. Funny.

    Wilson gets funnier every day.

Absolutely embarrassing defence of King again.

McGowan says the former players are reading from a prepared script.

Pretty obvious, but surprising to hear from one of the MSM.

  5. More power to people like Wilson on BBC Shortbread. I agree with Paul67’s leader piece – the longer King is there the better…

Are people complaining or do we just think maybe the share price of our club is a non issue high or low.

I couldn’t give two monkeys flying pigs about the share price. Invest in the team to win the league and be at least qualify and better still be competitive in the CL group stage is what I want to see. That investment as proven this year will take care of share price keeping the uber fan happy.

We have been a well run club financially for a few years but share price has only increased due to amount of cash available from CL after investment in team for first time in a good few years. Let’s face it, a decision we are led to believe is only a consequence of DD feeling slighted by Huns last April.

Can’t wait for the ‘Check out our magnificent share price banner’.

MWD couldn’t care less about the price if a share.

I don’t care a hoot about the share price either. I couldn’t have told you prior to today what it was. Mind you I don’t have shares por cierto.

If a football club is not well run and successful off the park – there will NOT be a successful squad on the park – there are many many examples – not least in Govan of course.

    Seriously?

If a club does not invest to qualify for the riches of the CL they will have neither a decent football product nor the subsequent high share price.

The only other situation that will raise share price is if the club is deemed by the markets to be in a position to gain entry to a more lucrative league structure or SKY decide to invest a couple of hundred million in Scottish football annually.

  11. 10/11 million budget is not a lot. They are not saying that’s the transfer budget. Take away the salaries of the 1st team squad at present and then the coaching and all other sundries and there wont be much left for players in. They will still have to sell in order to change things, so not much coming in that way either por cierto.

Collymore says Sevco have to beg, borrow or steal.

I think they have tried the beg and borrow……

  13. Another example of how differently the SMSM treat us and them is this.

Imagine for a second in some parallel universe that Ronny Deila was kept in a job after last season and was trailing Sevco by 33 points at this stage of the season. Then imagine he went on to state that Celtic had the best squad in the country and that he could envision leading Celtic to a European trophy in the not too distant future.

Imagine the hilarity the press would have with those statements and how much our manager would be ridiculed and disrespected.

Now compare with the deafening silence emanating from the media on the comments recently aired by the new manager at Sevco.

  14. I thought they said £10-11m is the current wage bill, Dick saying they may increase in short term and then ‘manage’ down. He seems to think the dross on contracts until 2020 will move on probably on loan.

  16. Por Cierto

I doubt many supporters of the club who bought shares care as in the main these shares are an emotional investment to own a wee bit of our club rather than a financial investment. Share price could be 1p or £500 and it wouldn’t measure on their richter scale. It is only important to the large investors who will always have a financial eye on personal profit at the right time.

    Cosy Corner Bhoy,

I, too, missed the ’65 L C Final as I was best man at my cousin’s wedding.

To add to my misery, the wedding was in Toryglen and the Wedding Breakfast was in a small hotel round the corner from Victoria Rd., on the way to Hampden.

    So near, yet…….

When we got back to the house, the game was on the radio, but I spent the last ten minutes walking up and down Ardbeg St.

  18. Stan Collymore sounded like he was phoning from Mars on Radio Scotland there. But…….he was kept on as he was praising R*ngers performance on Sunday…..

Since I ventured into the Hootsman Tonight I decided to make a night of it and gave radio shortbread 5 mins. That’s a comedy show, must have been “Dick the Wilson” defending the Portuguese Tim’s appointment only to be ridiculed by I guess “wealth off the radar”.

But 5 mins was more than enough, no one surely can take that show seriously!

Hello again all you young rebels.

Big weekend coming up for our wee rebel town on the peninsula

the entertainment will begin on friday St Patrick’s day in the Bay

Hotel Mornington with live music going into the night, our big Celtic

day celebration will follow on the Sunday when we have two bands

on, the March Wren Bhoys and then the wonderful Richie McKay

who apparently had the whole place rocking after the recent game

with the stickies, the whole town will be a sea of green so anybody

intending to visit be early as a beautiful weekend beckons.

A wee bird told me ( o.k it was Paddy ) that a bit of Irish line dancing

was going on after the stickies game, don’t know who the culprits

were but i’ll find out after a few Guinness on Sun. and they will be

banished from our CSC, how dare they celebrate that mob getting

    a point :-))

  21. Watch the scheming which will take place for their DoF role , if it ever gets filled, guess it will depend a lot on the tax bills folk get post SC case on Thursday, whose need is greatest , who can keep the secrets best.

  22. Friend of a friend who’s a Tim is a bar manager in a pub jointly owned by the Cardigan. Cardigan sent him and his wife to New York for St. Patrick’s day. The Orcs asked the Carigan to return as manager but he didn’t fancy it. He said it was Douglas Parks son who was interviewing. I wonder if Park is pulling the strings and King has been sidelined behind the scenes, which would make sense as King hasn’t spoken to Pedro yet.

  23. PRESTONPANS BHOYS

It is starting to get interesting with the different positions being adopted by the SMSM right now with regard to the Sevco board and all the goings on. Hacks that were once loyal to King are beginning to become a wee bit less friendly (Jackson flits between being compliant and making the odd snide remark), while the hardcore loyal hack remain…loyally hardcore (Wilson).

I reckon there will be a push for another regime change this year.

What is it with this mob and regime change? They’ve had mair coups than Robert Wiseman…

All of the hand-wringing complaints of recent days is, to my mind, energy wasted. Celts are in the minority in Scotland and the majority don’t like it that we rule the roost now. Too bad for them. Carry on cheatin’ Scotland, we haven’t tired of winning.

Saw a SSN report of the extra police security heading to the AFC Wimbledon v MK Dons game. Those English coppers have an extreme lack of trouser belt accessories, compared to our courageous Police Scotland worthies. Are they missing some merit badges?

Enjoyed my runny egg & scone roll at the Emirates cafe on Sunday. Sister, nephew and me were laughing, that the queue of Celts ordering breakfast was shorter than the steady stream of Police Scotland coppers spending less than a penny.

All the best to Eoghan O’Connell and Walsall tonight.

You can only invest if you have a sugar daddy, Chelsea, borrow and bet it on success, Rangers ( il) or develop a business model that develops over time under quality management to eventually succeed. CELTIC!

Why are you so hard on the way our club has developed. I really struggle with it tbh

5 mins was more than enough , that whole sports department has descended into a farce and god knows what they would be like if they were not banned from the bigotdome.

  28. This shows you how much I watch EPL football…but that’s the first time I’ve heard the Leicester fans doing that shout at the opposition goalkeeper when he kicks the ball out…

I really hope they get hammered after that.

    Then relegated.

Then I hope they go out of business.

    Just because of that thing.
