Rugby refereeing leaving football in wake

336

Honestly, see these rugby types complaining about a referee, don’t they know these things even themselves out over the season? What’s that? You mean the maths suggest that random events don’t even themselves out with small sample sizes, such as cup ties (sample of 1) and games against rivals (same of 4)?

The ‘even themselves out’ brigade could do with some remedial maths, it’s statistical hokum.

Within 24 hours of a mistake World Rugby called it so. No ‘referees’ union’ stonewalling, no defending the indefensible, no conspiracy to hide a lie, no tolerance of unacceptable standards, no fans left wondering why their game was misaligned with the rules. Without delay, World Rugby set the record straight, there is literally nothing more to see here.

Compare and contrast with our own sport in Scotland. The ‘referees’ union’ is alive and well, indefensible decisions are excused by a myriad of excuses, unacceptable standards have been tolerated for decades, instead of an explanation, fans are left with a vacuum into which they attempt to construct reason (which is very unhelpful). And although a referee quickly declared his own lie, the culture of the SFA was such that it was not declared beyond the Association until after a whistle-blower made sure it was known. Fifa is not the only football organisation bedevilled by a culture of cronyism.

Scottish football is under no pressure from above to improve. Fifa and Uefa thrive in the culture which has recently been revealed – largely by US prosecutors and journalists, some of whom have been whistling in the wind for 30 years. This percolates down to national associations, who are filled with office holders, appointed by the same patronage culture which allowed Michel Platini pocket 2m Swiss francs from Sep Blatter’s Fifa.

Nor is there sufficient pressure on the SFA from member clubs, apart from Celtic and one or two others, who are viewed as pariahs by some at Hampden, for the persistent flow of DVD-enclosed performance complaints.

It’s not easy being a referee; good ones are invaluable. They will continue to make mistakes at all levels, in all sports, but it should be easy to have an open culture which recognises the interests of the paying spectators. Just as World Rugby does. Protecting referees with a wall of silence is, in fact, not protecting them at all.

Hail Hail fella – well said and, to think that some apparently savvy-innocent-well-meaning-uber-Tim-status-seeking-enhancers….still hand their hard earned cash over to those duplicious-snakes?

Dear, dear….what wil it take to shake the apathy…..before it’s too late.

The reigning in of Neil Lennon when, he had the establishment on their knees….was up there with the, LNS type of slapping down of Timmy….condoned by a board of directors who……

Allowed Hugh Dallas to go to work in Uefa instead, of kicking up one almighty fluk and demanding him being banned from all levels of football.

They took the LNS verdict on the chin instead of challenging the verdict….they allowed Timdom to be ‘smoke-screened’ away by stuff about, Sandy Bryson wrong footed them….scandalous-innefectual-house-of-cards-style of management from Celtic PLC and…they walked away from it…unaccountable coz….the fans take it on the chin….a feckin disgrace.

They sat back and watched as, Rangers were allowed a licence to start again when, Rangers FC should have been banned from all levels of football whilst, under investigation.

As it has turned out….Rangers FC have pad back hee-haw and worse….their coming back….to do it again.

    Res-12 is a load of p#sh!

5 way agreement is a can of worms and…Celtic PLC are the juciest worm in the can!

    Away oot…..

  8. Jamesgang

Well in my case yes it would be know, but I’m just not clear on Hamiltontims answer, it’s kind of vague, or I’m not getting it, probably that mind you :)

  9. Oh aye this wasent in the script, the manic hat man is p….d off, lol.

Furious Mark Warburton launched a blistering attack on Andrew Dallas despite watching Sevco beat Livingston to clinch a place in the last four of the Petrofac Training Cup.

Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, regularly grafting from 6am to 11pm five days a week in-between drawing up plans to become a soccer coach, was unhappy about the lack of protection given to his stars during last night’s 1-0 win over Livingston.

Ibrox assistant Dave Weir was lectured by Dallas during the second half but Warbo wants to have more communication with officials.

“Talented players do need some protection,” bleated the Ibrox supremo. “I’m not saying special treatment but look after them. Some of the tackles were inappropriate.

“The referee didn’t say a lot to me and Davie which, again, is frustrating. We have to improve communications between us – and I mean managers and coaches – and officials. It’s important to get it right.

“We want games to be entertaining and for fans to enjoy it. Nathan’s one of those players who gets you off your seat. You pay your money to watch people like Nathan Oduwa. He was asking for some better protection.

“It’s a challenge for him and he’ll need to learn to deal with it. It’s part of his learning and development. He’ll find a solution to it but right now it’s more than frustrating for him.”

After the euphoria at the start of the season it seems that the impeding financial crisis at the club is starting to effect the players.

With no sign of further loans, no share trading platform and no sign of audited accounts for the year to June 2015, which includes four months of the Dave King revolution, there are fears that there will be no Annual General Meeting this year.

Mike Ashley’s £5m loan from January remains unpaid with the Sports Direct owner holding security over Murray Park, Edmiston House and the iconic Albion Car Park as well as the clubs intellectual rights.

Warbo is hopeful of completing a deal to sign John Eustace in the next 48 hours.

  14. Good post.

    image: http://cdn.videocelts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/traynor-whyte.jpg

traynor-whyteIn terms of size it escaped the attention of most bampots but Saturday’s postage stamp retraction of the ‘miracle of Ibrox’ from the Daily Record was highly significant.

For the 183,365 people who bought the Record on a daily basis through August, among the tales of wonder about Mark Warburton (a former city trader) and promises of investment from Dave King’s war-chest there was one piece that went a little too far.

Unlike the BBC newspapers are more than justified in taking a particular slant on issues and few would be in any doubt about where the loyalty of the Record lies.

From Dave Murray through to Dave King via Craig Whyte and Charlie Green the regime in charge at Ibrox can be assured of the wholehearted backing of the Glasgow based title- whilst in power. After leaving the blue room of dignity some decisions may be questioned.

Like their backing for New Labour and the Iron Chancellor Gordon Brown you know what you are getting from the Record and a very significant number if people are happy to pay for that view.

There are some areas however that really aren’t open to interpretation and top spin. Taxes and death are unavoidable however, even if the failure of Rangers to obtain a CVA and subsequent move into liquidation is an event that many would rather body-swerve.

The tax issues of the old club are unavoidable, over £6m was owed on the wee tax case relating to illegal payments to Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer.

    image: http://cdn.videocelts.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/RANGERS-DEAD.jpg

RANGERS DEADDuring the 2011/12 season the club decided to stop paying Income Tax and PAYE in a bid to prevent Neil Lennon’s Celtic from winning the SPL title. When this came to light there was no one willing to step up and settle with HMRC.

When the Record decided to report on a phantom tax bill that was later cleared one contributor to The Scottish Football Monitor decided that it was a step too far.

Taking up the story he wrote to the Record stating: “I wish to point out a factual inaccuracy in this article- http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/old-rangers-board-signed-deal-6510560

The relevant paragraph reads as follows- “The club went into administration and subsequent forced liquidation by HMRC over a “phantom” £80million tax bill, The club were later cleared of having ever owed the taxman”

The “club” were, of course, put into administration for failing to pay over to HMRC several months PAYE tax and VAT. The “Big Tax Case” is still in the appeals process, so the “club” haven’t been cleared of anything yet, and even if they eventually win on all outstanding appeal points, there will still be over £20m owed to HMRC. That sum is not in dispute, and was the reason for RFC entering administration.

To say that “the club were later cleared of having ever owed the taxman” is clearly untrue. Here is a link to the liquidators’ report of last November-

    http://www.bdo.co.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/879165/Rangers-Creditors-Circ-13-November-2014.pdf

From that report- “5. EBT As previously reported to creditors, HMRC appealed the First Tier Tribunal (“FTT”) decision in respect of the EBT Scheme previously operated by the Company, commonly known as the “Big Tax” case. The Big Tax case represents c£72m of the £94m claim submitted by HMRC in the Liquidation proceedings, and may therefore have a material impact on the dividend payable to unsecured creditors.”

So the HMRC claim was £92m, of which £72m is subject to an ongoing appeal process, and £22m is undisputed. It is impossible to reconcile these facts with the statement in your article that “the club were later cleared of ever owing the taxman”. On any construction the taxman is owed between £22m and £94m, the precise sum being contingent on an unfinished appeals process, but in any event not less than £22m.

Please let me know when a correction is published. I really do expect better from a reputable newspaper.

And the Record’s reply received today- Further to my recent email to you, below, please note that the Daily Record carried a clarification over this point in our regular page 2 column on Saturday. Thanks you for bringing this to our attention.”

With the storm clouds gathering over Ibrox, the season ticket money running dry, no sign of audited accounts, no prospect of a share issue and Mr King thousands of miles away in South Africa even a low level internet bampot can see the trouble brewing.

Having been endorsed by veteran blazer chaser Paul Murray it’ll be a difficult decision for the Record to explain to their readers the true situation at Ibrox.

Meanwhile the bampots have even been joined by an Ibrox fan going under the name John James. The evidence isn’t difficult to find for a company that spends over £30m a year and has a turnover well under £20m.

When the news hits the street the Record will probably tell it’s readers how ‘we told you first’. The reality like the phantom tax bill that was later cleared is somewhat different.

As even the Record is having to admit the truth about Rangers (1872-2912) these days (see TD’s post), surely the first slide in any power point presentation about the future of the SPFL has to be about getting rid of this shite from their official website.

We would all be in TLW camp I would like to think, but there is no information on it, it’s been dropped like a hot potato for some reason, I was only asking a question on it as someone brought it up having a go at the board again, but this secret way people are using is certainly not getting any where, in my opinion it’s either been dumped, or it suits the agenda to the people who are heading it to be left in limbo, if we can’t have answers we can only assume unfortunately?
