Rules, standards, attitude, what Scott Brown actually did for Celtic

340

I was at the Celtic FC Foundation Dinner last week and guest Charlie Mulgrew was asked about the best he had played with at Celtic.  He mentioned Virgil van Djik and Victor Wanyama as greats but told us the best was Scott Brown.  “Even when we were playing fives or sevens, his team almost always won.”  When you hear comments like this, you pay attention.

Scott retired yesterday after winning 23 major trophies, a joint record in British football held with Billy McNeill, 22 of Scott’s won at Celtic, his first at Hibernian.  He was adored by his managers as much for his attitude as his ability.  Leading by example, there would be no hiding in a Celtic shirt with Scott on the field, no unnecessary lingering on the treatment table.  As captain since 2010, he was the first line of enforcement of rules and standards.

This season was spent as player and assistant to Stephen Glass at Aberdeen, a venture that did not work out, although a goal at Ibrox, a venue he previously endured abuse and assault at, could yet prove to be a vital contribution in the title race.  He left a day after his former mentor, Neil Lennon, accepted a managerial job in Cyprus.  Hmmm.

In person, he could not have been more different than the bulldog he resembled on the pitch; he is intelligent and relaxed.  You know the stats, there is no correlation between playing and managing ability, so let’s not burden Scott with any expectations.  Hope to see him back soon at Celtic Park.

    Lionroars67,

You’ll need to direct me to the insults in that post?

Obviously you depend on them if you refer to them, even when they don’t exist.

Anger? What is angry about providing an alternative perspective?

Apparently you have a hatred of Putin that drives you, you have never been more vociferous about a war, any other war including those currently being perpetrated all over the world you ignore. Your fixation on Putin leads me to suspect you have connections to Ukraine and that would explain your fixation on this conflict at the expense of every other current conflict in the world.

You either mistake my refusal to accept propaganda as facts and my need for evidence before aportioning blame as ego or you are deliberately framing me as the baddie.

Too many times we have been told to accept a version of truth that turn out years later when all the evidence is available to be complete fabrication. You appear to have missed everything wikileaks published and continue to fall for the same drivel over and over like groundhog day.

I am seeing conflicting stories because I look at multiple sources, some sources show Russia as soulless monsters destroying civilians and civilian infrastructure. The Ukrainians never attack civilian targets only Russians do that.

Others show Russian’s handing out humanitarian supplies to thousands of civilians in towns and cities that do not look like there has been any conflict, while Ukrainian nationalists harrass and threaten those taking the food as traitors who will be dealt with severely when they retake the city/town.

You can say this is staged and I can say the same thing but the difference is, I will wait for the truth, you are telling me there is only one truth and you are the sole arbiter and I’m bad for challenging the narrative. Your message is hate Putin how does hate stop wars? I remember the days when anti-war meant all wars and both sides, there was no call from you to stop the Donbass bombardment.

‘ but RT has been taken off air now

Didnt hear that reported but did hear about BBC being banned in Russia’

It was reported in every single paper and on the BBC/ITS/Sky news. I can understand people being sceptical of the msm by why would you believe a word of RT?

    Spikeys….,

It was Max I heard a long time ago telling us bitcoin is the answer to war, defund the fiat currencies and you remove funding for armies, and excuses for invasions.

Since RT was silenced in Europe and the US his show has been cancelled, cancel culture eh, I’ve been folllowing him on orange pill (he could have picked a better name :D)).

On their last show they were talking about Lugano in Switzerland will now recognise bitcoin as legal tender allowing services and taxes to be paid, the dominoes are beginniing to fall.

  10. Putin wants to do to Ukraine what Hitler did to defeated France.

He’ll occupy that part of the country he deems strategically important to Russia ( the east and Kyiv) while installing a puppet (Yanukovych) to administer the rest of the Country.

He’s a man imposing severe human right curtailments on his own people in addition to his murderous actions in Ukraine.

Should he get bogged down in Ukraine, I’ve no doubt he will use any weapon in his arsenal to subdue them, he’s capable of absolutely anything.

    missed it – my mistake

Who said i believed a word of RT ? It’s more right wing than Fox News, supports Trump, is transphobic but I do like the Keiser Report despite even Max’s bias and some its non-propoganda documentaries are pretty good.

    FrankTerry,

Have you watched much of RT, I watched John Bolton being interviewd for the second time on Saturday by Afshin Rattansi (Ex channel 4 news reporter). Do you think any of the media you mentioned would allow such an interview from a directly opposing perspective on their own channels?

I understand there is a lot of propaganda on RT but I also know it is one of the few channels left that actually has debate from opposing sides. More improtantly when they provide “news” they declare if the information is corroberated or not, currently they provide lots of the same news as that of the west but they advise if there is any evidence to back it up, they don’t accept “highly likely” as evidence.

They appear to take and use civilian experiences a lot, no idea if any of the civilians are plants but they do not appear to be actors, if so, then there will be a lot of Oscars going to Russia next year, oh wait.

I do believe over the last 5 years the west and UK especially have been bombarded with anti-Putin propaganda which does fit with the US regime change strategy, first vilify the leader, thats been happening for a long long time now. Remember they doen the same with the last democratically elected president of Ukraine in 2010, they spent 3 years bombarding the west with how corrupt he was, only to replace him with a corrupt bloodthirsty racist.

FYI the reason I say “last democratically elected” is because after the coup, the two biggest political parties in the Ukraine were outlawed and not allowed to take part in the next election their MP’s were imprisoned or had to flee the country and some murdered, in case anyone forgot.

  14. Regarding last night Real v PSG, Neymar and Messi didn’t try a leg for the team. particularly the former who looked totally disinterested. As Tiger Woods said last night in his induction to the world golf hall of fame, if you don’t put in the work, you wont get the results, but more importantly you don’t deserve it, you didn’t earn it.

Putin is an utter scumbag. If anything there has been a lot of pro Putin propaganda from his sycophants in the far right in the west.

You should read Putin’s People by Catherine Belton.

  18. Innocents are being slaughtered on our doorstep. A flood of refugees ( predominantly women and children ) are on the move.

More so that at any time since WW2.

Football , politics and people are intertwined. As ever the Celtic Foundation does us and Football proud. Maybe the home office should seek advice from Tony Hamilton.

I hope the remaining Innocents can escape Kyiv before it becomes Putins Stalangrad.

    HH.

  19. Far be it for me to stand up for Neymar but PSG’s problem was at the back last night.

Real didn’t play them off the pitch with runners from deep so the lack of cover from Messi and Neymar doesn’t wash. Benzema didn’t do much for his defenders…but he scores his hat-trick and is the hero.

No matter how much tracking back was being done, PSG’s keeper gave a goal away then their CB laid one off for Benzema.

It was an inexplicable defensive collapse from them but we’ve seen it before.

  20. Oh please Tom McL…if yer wanting to start an arguement u gotta do better than yhat….sheesh
