Running past Orange Walk outperforms carb loading

400

I sat in a Foundation meeting with a group of Celtic fans on Saturday, it is beyond credible what is done in our name – and there’s much more to come.

Last week the Foundation appointed a Disability Sports Ambassador, while earlier this month, we saw the opening of Celtic Park Haiti, a magnificent assistance project in one of the world’s poorest countries. In the first week of this month the Foundation made news across the globe for leading the way in their response to the refugee crisis (well, the Washington Post covered it, even if some in our own backyard didn’t).

September started with the news that CLIC Sargent’s new Home from Home in Glasgow opened with the assistance of a £60k donation of your money. CLIC offer support for families coping with child cancer.

All this, just in September!

Ambition for the Foundation is limited to the practicalities of what’s possible to deliver. To this end, several dozen of us have signed up to compete (cough) for the Foundation in the Great Scottish Run on Sunday. For most of us, it takes many months’ hard work to get to the point that you’re lining up in George Square with 10k or a half marathon ahead of you.

I’m running the half marathon, my first time at an event over 10k (only done 3 of those). It’s been a summer on the roads, the highlight of which was the fastest recorded run up Airbles Road. Running in a Celtic T-shirt through a crowd watching an Orange Walk puts more energy in the legs than any amount of carb loading.

There are lots of ways you can participate in the work:

Here, for my linked donation page.

Here for Steve Gunn’s.

Here for Thomas Eman’s.

Here for Robert Doherty’s.

Here for Stephen Hewitt’s.

Here for Kenny O’Neill’s.

If you are doing the GSR for the Foundation and would like a shout out for donations, email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks for your help, it’s appreciated.

Cpl of fitness fanatics at my work have mentioned a guy called Gal Kantor who has a practice near Charing X. Highly regarded for back and neck injuries. I overheard someone saying they were able to make an appointment with him through the nhs.

    I gracefully declined their offer…

On the left back question. I will say right away that with Izzy unavailable, there is no perfect option. However I think we have to risk Blackett. Left back is supposedly his favoured position, and he must have squared up to Nani many times at Munure training. Who knows, we recently heard how frequent dressing room bust ups were, maybe he once decked Nani, and Nani, never having been a man for the physical confrontation, may not fancy running down the his wing. Just a thought!

Anyhoo, the sun is splitting the heavens in the Highlands, the last vestiges of disappointment at Saturday’s draw have evaporated, excitement for Thursday builds. We can put ourselves in pole position with a win, everything is possible, and everything is ahead of us. Positivity please. C’mon the Hoops. ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ :-)

You are now appointed my own personal physician. There’s little you can teach me,of course, but you can remind me of the true path to painless living.

From the moment that we were linked with Nadir Cifti I felt dismayed.

It is my opinion that he is an ordinary SPFL level striker.

His goal scoring rate at this level is mediocre.

His ability to take Celtic to a higher level in European football is massively doubtful in my mind.

His performances against RRFC and HMFC have done nothing to change my early concerns and opinions of him.

We are in need of a Carlton Cole type Centre Forward.

Coles own goal scoring record is pretty poor ,but most will feel that this is in the EPL , and that he would bang them in for fun in the SPFL.

We are about to find out if Cole still has the appetite for competitive football,or if it is more important that he fills his bank account playing soul less football in Quatar or the more competitive MSL.

THE FACT THAT HE IS HAVING TO BE CONVINCED TO JOIN CELTIC should make us walk away.

We only need look at the careers of David James,Sol Campbell, and Jamie Bullard after they rejected Celtic.

I suspect if the alternative offers for Cole are actually real ,then he and his agent will follow the money.

Our need is great ,but we would be better waiting until January if he needs convinced.

Ciftci? Prior to Dundee Utd,he had scored two goals in senior football.

Two decent seasons, but nothing that made me say ‘Sign him!’

I hope he comes good,I really do.

  16. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

As for Carlton Cole,I reckon PL will sign him after the international break to save on the wages!!!!

  17. TinyTim on 29th September 2015 11:19 am

History suggests Cole will have a better rate here than in the EPL. Sutton went from 1 in 3 to 1 in 2. Hartson went from under 1 in 2 to over 1 in 2.

Difference of course is they arrived at a much younger age.

  18. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Don’t know and don’t care. It’s not really relevant to the history of strikers coming to Celtic with and EPL scoring rate and whether it improved in Scotland.

Even Ian Wright at 36 managed to more or less maintain his scoring rate, albeit over only 8 games.

  19. Weeminger,

A more appropriate comparison imo is Dion Dublin who scored one goal for us.

His previous goal ratio in the EPL was a goal in just over three games

  22. Greenpinata on 29th September 2015 11:49 am

Perhaps although transfermarkt suggests he only played 343 minutes of league football for us. Not quite 4 games, so it’s a little hard to judge. His 5 in 58 for Leicester should have been a warning though.

  23. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

What does that have to do with a discussion about scoring rates? I haven’t even suggested at any point that Cole or any other players mentioned is, was or would be a good signing.
