Running past Orange Walk outperforms carb loading

400

I sat in a Foundation meeting with a group of Celtic fans on Saturday, it is beyond credible what is done in our name – and there’s much more to come.

Last week the Foundation appointed a Disability Sports Ambassador, while earlier this month, we saw the opening of Celtic Park Haiti, a magnificent assistance project in one of the world’s poorest countries. In the first week of this month the Foundation made news across the globe for leading the way in their response to the refugee crisis (well, the Washington Post covered it, even if some in our own backyard didn’t).

September started with the news that CLIC Sargent’s new Home from Home in Glasgow opened with the assistance of a £60k donation of your money. CLIC offer support for families coping with child cancer.

All this, just in September!

Ambition for the Foundation is limited to the practicalities of what’s possible to deliver. To this end, several dozen of us have signed up to compete (cough) for the Foundation in the Great Scottish Run on Sunday. For most of us, it takes many months’ hard work to get to the point that you’re lining up in George Square with 10k or a half marathon ahead of you.

I’m running the half marathon, my first time at an event over 10k (only done 3 of those). It’s been a summer on the roads, the highlight of which was the fastest recorded run up Airbles Road. Running in a Celtic T-shirt through a crowd watching an Orange Walk puts more energy in the legs than any amount of carb loading.

There are lots of ways you can participate in the work:

Here, for my linked donation page.

Here for Steve Gunn’s.

Here for Thomas Eman’s.

Here for Robert Doherty’s.

Here for Stephen Hewitt’s.

Here for Kenny O’Neill’s.

If you are doing the GSR for the Foundation and would like a shout out for donations, email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks for your help, it’s appreciated.

Glasstwothirdsfull describes a post of mine as ‘interesting’ whilst you describe me (and yourself) as a ‘young gun’ , definitely something funny happened after that lunar eclipse last night. You’ll be write about those auld yins having their siestas though.

  3. BBC headline for the cup draw. “What a tough draw for cup holders Celtic”.

Surely it’s a tough draw for newly promoted Hearts?

    Welcome to blog.

Glad you took the plunge, much of what you posted I agree with and have previously posted similar views.

I particularly agree with your view that the answer is to score more goals, as you say they cannot chop them all off.

And finally, if I may quote you…poor players, poor management, poor tactics or lack of investment…all contributory factors in my opinion.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  5. Tonyrome welcome. Are you etc?

I do not know if there was bickering about the offside goal just a difference of opinion. You are probably not wrong in some of your critique of the team though. However, should any convictions follow at any forthcoming trials of those previously in executive positions at Rangers and ‘Rangers’ I think that would actually mean that a real crime had actually been committed and that would seem rather worse than our failure to land ten-in-a-row especially considering we have only won four consecutively so far. And still worse than our possible failure to land a fifth consecutive championship next spring- unthinkable though that currently seems, And that is an opinion not a bicker

  6. Celtic at Tynecastle in the League Cup…….great draw especially for the travelling Celts who love

    a bit of atmosphere.

Better than another home tie, with no interest to such a large proportion of the Celtic support.

Different story in this game and in stark contrast to Saturday because Hearts will require to play at least a little football in order to progress in the tournament.

Celtic on the other hand have another opportunity to prove that resource is everything in football, and that we used it.

  7. Re: goal chopped off on sat

From my seat ,admittedly high up and far away (for these auld eyes)

I thought that incompetent north stand linesman (who couldn’t see repeated hand ball 2 yards in front of him) when Mikael was trying to put the ball into the box, somehow managed to see a foul in the crowded boxand flagged.

  8. That’s moniker changed then, a very easy process. In fact, it was illuminating just how easy it is for one individual to have multiple log ins. Only who has the time for that, other than a proper roaster? :-)

Great article Paul. Amazing to see the kindness extended throughout the world in the name of Celtic fans.

Seeing that Haiti is only a stones throw from my new address, I’ll take a trip over to Celtic Park and report back.

  9. “To not get 10 in a row at this time would be a bigger crime than any committed on the other side of the city.”

    Tonyrome,

I’ll put that down to the excitement of making your first post.

    I assume you are joking.

However, just to be clear – are you joking?

With the MSM we have, you will understand why I seek clarification.

The bhoys will just be waking up as their carer arrives about six, best I bolt now, nice to exchange the banter, off to the lap dancing:))

  12. Sure we should and will win the title this year but it is very arrogant to talk of and expect 10 in a row. And not just expect but class the club as a failure for not achieving it.

  13. Sipsini- well, I was born in Ayr, of Teuchter parents right enough though. Talk aboot identity crisis…

TallyBhoy- Naw, still have to work for my living. I’ll leave the auld crabbit retorts to certain others on here. ;-))

  14. Stewart Regan calls for Platini ,to explain his alleged bung from Blatter.I find it really reassuring that Scottish Football,is led by a true leader of men, insistent on transparency, honesty, integrity and with a real sense of Fair Play.

RS are saying St Johnstone play Morton in the quarters. But they still haven’t announced the result of their game in the last round…..?

  16. Bada Bing,

Couldn’t help but laugh when I read that about Stewart Regan, after his organisation’s shenanigans, particularly with regard to the deid club. Surely he is one the compromised……….Hmmmmmmmmmmm???

Hardly a rebuttal by your high standards.”

Sorry for the late reply. I was out in that living hell they call Ikea and some bathroom showrooms.

I wasn’t going for rebuttal. I don’t think you can rebut a “what if”. I was just aiming to point out that specious reasoning can be reversed without any loss of plausibility, mostly because it never had any to begin with.

It’s a bit like the argument that, if only PL & DD loosened the purse strings and bought us a £5m striker (and a £5m midfielder and a £5m left back) we would be doing infinitely better than we are. It will never be put to the test (unless we are in a richer league and then we would need a £20m version of each) so people can go on believing it knowing that they will never get a chance to be proven wrong.

    =======================================

Normally I would be pleased at the opportunity to put this lot in their place, however we seem so fragmented at the moment playing in fits and starts , a generous official could swing it.

RD,or JC or Jim McGuiness need to get everyone motivated and fired up, as the attitude displayed recently by Johansen and a few others leaves a lot to be desired.

We kept doing the same thing second half,no variation, which is a concern,Ciftci should have been told to stand back to the Hearts defence shielding the ball for coomons and others to run on to,alas he did very little of note other than run offside.

    Needs to improve and quick.i

Will Hearts need to increase our allocation for this tie as its a cup match?

A bit like trying to prove the unicorn doesn’t exist.

There’s posters on CQN that know for a ‘fact’ that Celtic don’t pay what’s been reported

    as having been paid.

On the other hand there is never any doubting the price we pay for the ‘Duds’.

I was wondering about that too. I think it needs to be 5% of capacity so I don’t think so. A mad scramble awaits now as the allocation is around 1,200 now.

‘It’s over to you now Ronny’ was the best Paul67 quote from weeks ago.

We’re on the edge with two away Spl games, then two hard Spl home games with the El jammed in between.

Saturday’s first half dreadful finishing passed the ball back to Ronny and IMHO he didn’t react as he should have to make sure the three points were secured in the second half.
