‘SACKED IN THE MORNING’ DONS TAUNT AS BIG PHIL LOSES AGAIN

ABERDEEN fans taunted under-pressure Philippe Clement as his Ibrox side toppled 2-1 at Pittodrie tonight.

“Sacked in the morning,” was the jibe that reverberated around the stadium on a crucial evening for both clubs.

The loss puts the Govan club NINE points adrift of the Dons and, of course, champions Celtic who made no mistake with a 2-0 victory over Dundee at Parkhead.

Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels (pen) were the marksmen in the east end of Glasgow as Nicky Devlin and Shayden Morris grabbed the goals that mattered in the north east.

And it could have been worse for the visitors. In the first-half, Jamie McGrath missed a penalty-kick while Graeme Shinnie also rattled one off the post as the hpme side threatened to run amok.

Clement looked transfixed on the touchline as his struggling team collapsed to their third league reverse of the campaign.

The Dons have now joined Brendan Rodgers’ men and Kilmarnock in the list of teams piling the misery of the Belgian gaffer who saw his side get off to a false start to the campaign with a goalless draw against Hearts at Tynecastle on the opening day.

At Parkhead, there was no such trauma as Brendan Rodgers’ side got the job done against a determined Dundee team.

The champions now face Jimmy Thelin’s rejuvenated Pittodrie club in the Pittodrie League Cup semi-final at Hampden on Saturday evening.

Clement’s Govan club take on Motherwell in the other last-four confrontation at the same venue 24 hours later.

Another strain game beckons for Big Phil.
