Salmond, MacAskill, Sturgeon police state quest crushed

911

It should be a matter of great personal pride to the football fans, manty of them Celtic fans, who campaigned against the Offensive Behaviour at Football’ Bill from the outset, and then against the Act, faced off against the Scottish Government at Holyrood yesterday and won.

Their satisfaction will be shared by James Kelly MSP, who raised the Bill in Parliament, which yesterday brought down the Act.  Well done to him and his colleagues.

This nonsense was never about ending sectarianism, neither the SNP Government, nor the police, have moved an inch towards this goal since Alex Salmond first raised the subject.

Sectarianism in football grounds was given life in 2011 by then Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who sat through 90 minutes of The Billy Boys at Hampden, before congratulating fans on their performance.  The Billy Boys returned to stadiums that day and since then, we have lived through an SNP endorsed open season.

The Act was a familiar mix of populist rhetoric and right wing police action so common with those who put identity politics before people.

After their defeat, the Government acknowledged they would recognise will of Parliament, despite ignoring the same will when an earlier vote on the Act was passed.  Nicola Sturgeon did everything in her power to prevent this defeat.

Salmond has moved on to his spiritual home-broadcaster, where proto-right wing nationalists get to claim credentials of the left without challenge.  Today we have a government and police force which have been made accountable to the law and the democratic will.  The need for vigilance against extreme right wing policies continues.

Well done again to all those who campaigned so successfully.

okay …. for CQN’s dog lovers … there is a story on MSN today about a Molossus puppy … (a relative of the Mastiff) … this pup is 9 months old, is 6 feet tall, and weighs 180 lbs!

wonder if he plays centre back?

    thanks.

That makes sense. Unfortunately its happened a lot throughout Britain and Europe, the Labour Parties/Socialist Parties have lost their traditional support base to parties of varying hues (many of which would be considered right of centre)

Not claiming that SNP are right of centre as I genuinely dont know

  7. WITS I don’t think you are confused but I will play along.

The SNP were (and many believe still are ) a hotbed on anti Catholicism. Part of their drive for independence was to take the country back from immigrants (Catholic ones). Sound familiar.

Since then they have changed tack to give them the illusion of inclusiveness. But you only get in the club if you park your own opinions and morals at the door and toe the party line. Pretending to welcome immigration(as long as it’s non Irish Catholic) and pretending to be left wing whilst pursuing a facist right wing agenda is all a ploy to get independent. After that all gloves are off.

As for the Huns they are stuck in their monarchy loving stupidity. It’s ironic in that the best thing that could happen for their pathetic racism is for Scotland to go it alone and still have the queen (remember salmond and his queen of scots guff) and then we are a very small minority at their mercy. All of Scotland institutions are racist, the government is racist with facist tendencies. But they are too stuck in their stupidity to deal with it.

During the referendum at least 3 people equated by stance with being like the orange order just because we voted no for different reasons. That’s the same twisted logic that say James Kelly being accused of supporting sectarianism because he opposed the act.

It’s the language and beliefs of the facist. It’s childish and moronic.

And that is a great description of the SNP.

What confuses me (genuinley) is how one side can beleive that the SNP are a hot bed of anti catholicism the other side beleive them to be a Scottish equivalent of Sinn Fein who detest all things Rangers/Protestant

    /Loyal etc .

Of course it may just be a small group of online Rangers supporting idiots who hold those views.

I would agree that the SNP originally had some very anti Irish Catholic views.Do their grandchildren still think the same?

  18. An independent Socialist Scotland would be nice. So get over the first barrier first – and the SNP give the best chance of that in my limited opinion, then vote in those best to run the country.

If there were to be a UK general election tomorrow I’d likely vote SNP. If we were looking at the first post-independence election I’d likely be voting Labour. I think.

    My missus loves her whiskey.

She had a Balvenie 12 yr old miniature and Walkers shortbread on the table for every guest at our wedding.

In our drinks cabinet at home she has a bottle of GlenDronach 21yo,Lagavulin 16yo and Aberlour 15yo.

I know nothing about whiskey but she loves a glass in the evening and swears they have magical properties.

  21. I began a long running correspondence with James Kelly MSP after the kettling incident in the Gallowgate. It was a step too far. I’d advised young fans at Celtic Park about police tactics and disappointingly observed Celtic officials-you know who you are- assist over exuberant constables pursue the flawed Act.

Thankfully for many this was a wake up call as ghosts of Janefield Street past were rekindled. Doc and the Bhoys at George Square was brilliant but the letters, e mails and continuous pressure succeeded in the end.

Well done to all involved. Heart felt sympathy for those with banning orders and criminal convictions. Many of us now are movie stars due to the hours of footage of football fans at football games-What happens with that?

I fell out with Scottish Labour due to Iraq but men like James Kelly could restore this shambles of a party; I’ll wait and see.

Celtic are not sectarian-stop linking us with bigots.

Big Packy … the number of dog fans on CQN has dwindled for sure … but, then again, some days it doesn’t seem like there are many people on here at all.

I try to avoid fighting with people on here … life is too short …. I fight when I get paid to fight … and, honestly, I dont really care enough about the football anymore to fight about it …. (although I still hate the zombies … I know .. I know)

I have not always been a regular whisky drinker and still ain’t.

For many years my preferred tiple was Armagnac (not cognac) although I will take a gin of anyone.

However, I have always liked the odd whisky especially the speyside ones and in recent years i have become more of a fan on a regular basis.

Mind you, I will also drink Old Tim’s wine and the odd beer of choice.
