Salmond, MacAskill, Sturgeon police state quest crushed

911

It should be a matter of great personal pride to the football fans, manty of them Celtic fans, who campaigned against the Offensive Behaviour at Football’ Bill from the outset, and then against the Act, faced off against the Scottish Government at Holyrood yesterday and won.

Their satisfaction will be shared by James Kelly MSP, who raised the Bill in Parliament, which yesterday brought down the Act.  Well done to him and his colleagues.

This nonsense was never about ending sectarianism, neither the SNP Government, nor the police, have moved an inch towards this goal since Alex Salmond first raised the subject.

Sectarianism in football grounds was given life in 2011 by then Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who sat through 90 minutes of The Billy Boys at Hampden, before congratulating fans on their performance.  The Billy Boys returned to stadiums that day and since then, we have lived through an SNP endorsed open season.

The Act was a familiar mix of populist rhetoric and right wing police action so common with those who put identity politics before people.

After their defeat, the Government acknowledged they would recognise will of Parliament, despite ignoring the same will when an earlier vote on the Act was passed.  Nicola Sturgeon did everything in her power to prevent this defeat.

Salmond has moved on to his spiritual home-broadcaster, where proto-right wing nationalists get to claim credentials of the left without challenge.  Today we have a government and police force which have been made accountable to the law and the democratic will.  The need for vigilance against extreme right wing policies continues.

Well done again to all those who campaigned so successfully.

Allan the only player of genuine quality on this pitch. He’s been deemed surplus to requirements at Celtic. Telling.

Tidy player but lightweight, not what Hibs needed when down to 10.Had he been subbed for Whittaker sooner Hibs would have held out.

St Johnstone a disgrace, did anyone notice Miller + others available tonight but rested vs Sevco.

My father-in-law (God rest him) wasn’t a big football man but every New Year, after a few drams, would sing The Foggy Dew.

Your post brought back some good memories.

Well done to the young bhoys today. I applaud your determination to get it right.

The club is asking a hard shift from every single player in this team which we supporters are supposed to believe could be Celtic’s next eleven. It’s ridiculous. I watch Celtic defenders lose out in penalty box challenges against opponents three years older and then we play teams who add grownups from their top squads.

Ditch this stupid development league (we win mostly) and give fans a 2nd eleven to enjoy.

Yes, it may only result in idiots like me and my brother and my sister watching two games a week but those like us don’t have satellite tv. Who wants it?

  10. Home rule is Rome rule.

That was the cry from no surrender Scotland back in the very early Winnie Ewing days of the SNP, and typical

of your average messed up regular ‘Scottish’ card carrying anti catholic Jock Six Pack.

The old man told me about one of his customers when he was in the credit trade way back that said his television was ‘too Catholic’, when quizzed he explained that the little silver black and white box in his

living room in Pollok showed world events on the news and the like that obviously covered catholic events.

    True story.

Was talking to a young Sevc today that told me he was pleased the OBAF act was scrapped because it was a stupid law that clearly targeted Rainjurz fans, with a special mention of their anti christ Graham Spiers

Mixed up her majesty morons, indeed.

  11. Just had a huge argument with a close friend over Celtic.

His argument was we will never be allowed to win 10 in a row and (like the welsh league) we are too big to compete so will be allowed to scotland before we hot 10 again.

I agree we will never be allowed to win 10.

But they will cheat us out of it, like they have cheated us for the last 100 years.

I understand my argument is based on fact (history supports it) and his argument is based on fairy dust (as we have believed for too many years that we will escape scotland because of a dreamlike x, y or z reason)

I have come to the conclusion that most fans are like him.

They believe in some horse kack fairy story that we will get out the league/ replace the masons/ have fair referees / have a board that fights for our club (IMO the BIGGEST lie)- any of the stories we have told ourselves for years.

Reality tells us that for 40 -100 years we have been lied and cheated to, and WILL continue to be lied and cheated to.

This is the cause of our current malaise in scoddish football.

There are too many fans stuck in a fairytale version of reality that is not in any way based on facts

You know it. These young guys are bustin’ a gut every game they play and few Celtic keyboard diehards are present to even clap them on to the pitch before kick off.

(I type this as a Celt who has never passed beyond the Lennoxtown dirty track 4×4 swing barrier. Maybe everyone else here does it regularly.)
