I agree about the AEK coach but did not see anything from tonight’s Salzburg coach that changed the pattern of his predecessor(s).

You may be right but it’s also worth noting that BR has signed many of his own players – most are injured (constantly) or on the bench.
When BR came in, he improved many of the players he had but his dealings in the transfer market mostly leave a lot to be desired. Dembele was a masterstroke….struggling to think of many more.
====
Moussa, Scotty S, Eddie & Ntcham are probably the pick of the bunch. The rest to be fair (out with Kouassi) were all likely deemed at best squad player / stop gaps and that we didn’t really spend that much on.

I think BR has signed around 20 players. So are we suggesting that around 15 were signed as stop-gaps or squad players?
I’d be the first to agree that he may not have been sufficiently backed but I’m still far from convinced that we are getting bang for buck on what HAS been spent.

Just watched a wee bit of huns game. If they win , the media will be all over them ,while slating Celtic. The fact that Salzburg are a very good team while Rapid are absolute mince will not be mentioned.
BTW I think we deserve to be slated. Poor first touch and some shocking passing are always going to be found out at this level. Add to that the way some of our players wandered through the game like their minds were on other things.
We have undoubtedly gone backwards and answers as to why , have to be found.

Thought Hendry was sleeping at both goals – too slow in reacting – on both occassions to players getting across the front of him. It is a fault that can be coached out of him.
Lots of comments re: Mikael – some of it is – I feel – overly harsh.
I thought he was mostly quite good, but he’s obviously feeling the pace after a long season, a World Cup, and a shortened break due to being called back early to cover for a lack of central defensive options available to Brendan early in the season and, as a result, no pre-season training.
Whatever the reasons behind it, we are suffering due to lack of refreshing the playing squad over two years under Brendan.
As someone said earlier – Brendan is playing some players that he may prefer, in an ideal world, not to. If he doesn’t get the players in that he has targetted, then he has little option to continue doing that.
First year miracles were with Ronny’s team – most of the second year the same.
Hoping to do it three years on the trot is not plausable – no matter how good the manager is.

Just home from an enjoyable evening spent in a pub with an old friend I see too infrequently.
Probably not sensible posting while semi inebriated but so what, here goes.
Praise is due to our host for his prescience. He called it right.
Love BR to bits but there is nothing in his coaching manual that addresses the need for a stiff, sturdy, manly (and occasionally sleekit) approach to away matches in Europe.
Too much method and politeness. Not enough aggression.
We were swept away by a moderately talented side who upped the tempo second half.
They also worked the referee quite beautifully during that 35 to 45 minute period.
Showed him who was boss and he dutifully acquiesced in the second half.
A streetwise Celtic team WITH NO ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL ABILITY would have won that game 0-1.
Hail hail.

I am almost certain of this. If Brendan goes we can kiss goodbye to 10 in a row (that is if it is still achievable if he leaves). Who will we get to replace him – Roy Keane (DD’s choice) another cheap Ronnie experiment (PL’s choice) Lenny comimg back (can’t see it ) or a Moyes type chancer?

Management ,board , playing staff have a collective responsibility to stop the decay which has set in. There has been a gloom and a negativity around the club all season . Either BR can’t motivate the players or the players themselves can’t be motivated . whatever it is , remedial action is required.

PL — has to be the most ineffectual player I have ever seem after tonight’s performance.
Absolutely shocking in his ineptitude and attitude — however he does tie the odd scarf to the odd post on the odd awayday so that is OK then.
CMcG — no wonder he can’t get a game for the NT.

Was just pointing out how relevant coaching is at the higher levels.
I have been saying for a long time that our coaching needs to improve.
Many fans pointing out that Lustig was and has been in Europe a weak link so not to much of a stretch to think their coach highlighted this area as a weak spot.
Also when we lose the ball what are the players roles?
Seems to me nothing more than run around chasing people and leaving acres of space.
Our off the ball movement is hard to discern as it neither threatens or protects.
Neither defensive or threatening.
Our spacing is also a huge issue as to often the gaps between zones are huge and the midfield in particular neither support our forwards or protect the defense.
I also think the coaches insistence on strict adherence to possession system are detrimental to some of our players strengths and stifling creativity.

I meant to add to my last post, a third option…..that Brendan himself is losing motivation.

We are a poor European side and our manager, whilst i love him, seems to learn nothing from previous European performances. Totally expected that result unfortunately, even when we went one up.
