Samaras astonishing journey

557

Georgios Samaras journey over the last twelve months has been astonishing.  The player was subject to treatment by those who enjoying booing at the football and suffered the indignity of being subject to an exchange at last year’s AGM which must have made it difficult to rebuild confidence and form.

Now he is the most effective man in the team.  He was involved in six out of Celtic’s eight Champions League qualifier goals.  He has found his position, wide on the left, where he scores and creates more goals than he ever did as part of a forward two.  The space on the wing allows those long legs to stretch and get behind defenders.

I’m not paying too much attention to the scare stories which emerged from Latvia last night following his elbow injury, we will need to wait on the results of a scan to know the extent of the damage, but there is modest alarm ahead of our opening Champions League group game against Benfica in 11 days.

I can almost recall Didiers crosses in Stuttgart

but too busy holding VP up at the time.

  2. TSD,

Indeed, I love the global comnunity and all its diverse riches.

Hence, when I see folk finding needles in the proverbial haystack and using them to beat other cultures that haven’t embraced the American Dream it makes me wonder.

  3. Frustrating players?

    I’ll give you Charlie Tully.

If he was playing today, he would be Paddy Mc. Court.

The 14 year old is called Rishma, you neglected to mention that.

Or were you simply using the tragic story of a young girl to further your poisonous agenda?

  5. Can i also add my condolences to jobo and his family on their sad loss from a fellow EK man. Our thots r all with u.

he was asked about sammys form and said A player like that can get you the sack,

The SFA have a dilemma ahead of them if Levein walks or gets punted, there are no ex hun managers for the job.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

…and that’s the bottom line ….!!!!!……for as long as I can remember, it didn’t matter how good Celtic players were, the discretely enforced ‘policy’ was to consider the zombies first…….. Well, with that restricted policy has contributed to a progressively mediocre Scotland team. When will they ever learn….

  8. All this talk of ex rangers players diving and smashing around reminds me of the story of the Great Northern Diver’s last appearance on London’s green fields. It was then prophesied that it would never darken Whitehart Lane’s lush pasture again. Sure enough it found it’self unwelcome and never stayed in the sunny south again but returned to the colder realm from whence it came. There it found refuge and indeed welcome on the less lush pasture in Govan where it had many happy and appreciated years doi.

ng as it had in the past. I also remember in the Scotland colours as it was standing on the line as on the riverbank when its rear end went thataway just as an eastern european passed by in haste and the Diver did what it did which caused problems for the passerby and later resulted in a melee of bad feelings before the games end. This lovable diver was given the nickname of a machine that played music. Years later these habits were passed on as I also remember a Danish Loven doing the same as Hendryk passed behind. The asshole propelled itself backwards flattening our Scandinavian and then “dived” forwards holding its head in its hands feigning hurt which succeeded. Some things never change only rehearsed more!!!

Sorry for repeat but first time for copy and paste determined to succeed when didnt know what was happening if anything

I think we know what he meant but I agree it’s an ill advised comment to make with the MSM in attendance. Can’t see him saying it now.

Usually do but find it difficult when children are used to propagate such right wing diatribe.

  10. Scotland? Who cares? Thoroughly disinterested in them, my only concern is that any of our players get through unscathed. Get well soon big Sami .

The Scottish national team has over the years been an extension of oldco, from the booing of wee Jinky, Davie Hay and Brian Mclair, to the denial of King Kenny of a fiftieth consecutive cap to beat an x Huns record, to world class performers being moved position to accommodate Huns ( Daniel Fergus to left back to allow Sandra Jardine in !!!!!!!).

Wouldn’t draw the curtains to watch them if they played in my back garden.

The younger generation think we are joking when we tell them that in the 60’s/70’s a Celtic player would be booed playing for Scotland.

Do you read The Scottish Football Monitor site? Fans of all clubs, except one, are totally against the corrupt SFA and SPL officials who are destroying our game to benefit one bunch of cheats the like World football has never seen.

Really decent friends now hate the zombies more now than ever before. Regan, Ogilvie and Donkey WILL be beaten by the decent supporters of all clubs in Scotland.

  14. TET

    Agree totally.They have tainted everything.

Watched highlights today of England v Scotland at Wembley 1967.

A few weeks after the greatest team in Scottish history won the big cup.

How many Celtic players were in the Scotland team ?

  15. hamiltontim

    Agreed.

I have admired how neil gives them nothing now. I was fortunate to attend a “meet the manager” at Celtic park where Neil stated he had spoken often to MON about how to deal with the press.

    Wouldnt happen now

  16. prestonpans bhoys

I heard a hun, can’t remember who, a pundit on SSB the other day, saying that the only booing that has been heard at a Scotland game, was when Black came on the other week.

It’s like if they keep telling the lie often enough, it becomes the truth.

It’s my country as much as theirs, but it sure don’t feel like it.

Forgive me but my flabber is gasted at you picking on John ‘Yogi’ Hughes as one of the enigmas who have played for us!

Agreed, he could be very frustrating, but 188 goals in 383 matches for us is, imo, not too shabby!

He’s no 7 in the all-time scorers list, just behind Patsy Gallacher and just in front of Sandy McMahon. A true Celtic legend imo!

There are dozens, nay 100s of players who have played for us much more worthy of the frustrating tag than the ‘touchline terror’!
