Samaras astonishing journey

557

Georgios Samaras journey over the last twelve months has been astonishing.  The player was subject to treatment by those who enjoying booing at the football and suffered the indignity of being subject to an exchange at last year’s AGM which must have made it difficult to rebuild confidence and form.

Now he is the most effective man in the team.  He was involved in six out of Celtic’s eight Champions League qualifier goals.  He has found his position, wide on the left, where he scores and creates more goals than he ever did as part of a forward two.  The space on the wing allows those long legs to stretch and get behind defenders.

I’m not paying too much attention to the scare stories which emerged from Latvia last night following his elbow injury, we will need to wait on the results of a scan to know the extent of the damage, but there is modest alarm ahead of our opening Champions League group game against Benfica in 11 days.

Aye, I read it, and it gives me hope.

I still worry that the behind the scenes power brokers will have their day.

A bit like if they fail, they will make sure everyone else fails.

That could be their downfall IMO, it’s the best thing that could happen.

And they are too feckin stupid to see it.

Deepest sympathies to ole Jobo. No matter their age, the loss of a parent is very difficult to deal with.

  4. Live in England (Sheffield) – Dad from Yorkshire, Mum from Dumbarton (Scotland) – and before that the family on my Mum’s side are from County Donegal.

Divided loyalties and all that but as far as supporting a COUNTRY in international football is concerned I just couldnae give a toss – totally disinterested. YAWN!

The only team that matters to me is CELTIC – so absolutely gutted to hear of the injury to our TALISMAN – SAMMI! Love the guy – the great unpredictable one – just what we need for the upcoming games against Benfica and Spartak IMHO. If he is missing for these games then I hope Miku or Lassad really hit the ground runnin’

  5. The sight of Didier going into 6th gear past a defender was one to behold. Once his hamstring went he wasn’t a 1/3 of the player.

  6. Tallybhoy,

If you watched Yogi regularly, you must admit he was an enigma. Brilliant and rubbish in the one game. He could rip a defense to bits one moment and let the ball through his legs the next.

  7. Isn’t it strange how selective The Mynah Bird’s Apprentice is about human suffering ?

Like his mentor, he can empathise with all those who are abused by horrible Islamic regimes, but has no sympathy with the people who live in the Earth’s biggest concentration camp.

They, like Neil Lennon, bring it on themselves.

Nigeria 2-1 up away to Liberia half time, can’t find a link anywhere, pity, was looking forward to seeing Efe play.

Reading about our new bhoy lassad, he plays the same sort of role as Sammi, lets hope he can be a decent substitute.

Just looked at my tickets for the St Johnstone game, we are now in the East stand!

Have they moved their home support away for our games?

  10. Never said that ‘Yogi’ was not an enigma, but I saw him have a lot more good games than bad.

And I’ll say it again – 1 goal every 2 games for us!

If that’s what it takes to be an enigma, it will do for me!

    HH!!

  11. prestonpans

My tickets for Perth arrived today, I’m in the East Stand too so it would seem that they’ve moved things around.

I’m sure I heard last season that they were closing one of the stands behind the goal and converting it into an hotel.

So is a lacklustre home draw that surprising?

    Probably not.

Will Scotland get one the 31 places to line up with Brazil?

    Probably not.

So, c’mon Andy Murray: 2-1 up in US open semi.

Give us a wee bit of national sporting pride.

  17. tallybhoy,

I remember a conversation I had with Pat Crerand.

Yogi’s name came up and he said that if he didn’t beat his man with his first run, they would ignore him for the rest of the game.

A bit of an exaggeration, but that was Yogi, he was either on his game, or not. Nothing in between.

An enigma, as you didn’t know which Bear would turn up.

CRC, that was a lovely and fitting tribute to Jobo’s Mum or my ‘Auntie Mammy’ as I knew her.

Your post and the many fine comments that have followed it will really be appreciated by Jobo who holds this fine place dear to his heart. I am sure he will take great pride in sharing the lovely words from his CQN family members with his own family over the next few days.

Jobo, yer Mammy was very proud of you with many many good reasons to be so! :O)
