Sanctimonious nonsense about Celtic fans from ex-Ranger

493

I’ve read sanctimonious nonsense about how Celtic fans are enjoying these times, on how they should feel instead, and on how they will feel, one day.  I’ve also read what utterings our chief executive and manager should limit themselves to.

Our manager and directors have so far said very little on the subject of Rangers, only responding to direct questions or when you, the Celtic fans, were brought into the debate, without reference to any of us, by the First Minister.  Their response to Mr Salmond brought a swift and appropriate retraction.

It concerns me greatly that Scottish Premier League championships could have been won by a team playing improperly registered football players.  It would concern me even more if my concerns, your concerns, were not shared by the people charged with speaking on our behalf.  It is the responsibility of Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell to leave no Celtic supporter in any doubt that they will vigorously pursue our supporters’ historical and future interests.

Mark Hateley’s piece on today’s Daily Record betrays a lot of hurt.  He concedes this season’s title to Celtic, which he regards as “tainted”.

As someone suggested in the CQN comments section this week, “We don’t need your stinkin’ 10 point penalty”….. we have another 10 point lead in reserve.

Hately suggests you should have the “good grace” to move on as his club “attempts to battle for its very existence”, adding, “There is no need for the likes of Lennon and Peter Lawwell to continue to sink the boot in”.

We will move on once justice has been done and is seen to be done.  Anyone who suggests otherwise, that somehow justice, the maintenance of ethical standards in the game, or even legality, are not things football fans, managers or directors should concern themselves with, has perhaps headed too many footballs in his time.

The coup-de-grace from Hateley was “So let Celtic get on with celebrating their title – a title they somehow failed to win throughout the last three years of financial troubles”.  Does anyone believe Rangers would have won three leagues had they paid their tax instead of singing Jelavic, Lafferty, Davis, Edu, Naismith or Bougherra?

I think this guy is missing the point. If the First Tier Tribunal report confirms already-made allegations that Rangers improperly registered football players, this bling that Hateley is flashing in your face is ill-gotten.

The Celtic manager, directors and support, together with most others in Scottish football, have to ensure that Fifa rules on the registration of football players is not subverted.

…Had Rangers been transacting all their player signings and paying those in an entirely transparent, legal and ethical way, would Hateley (Gascoigne, Laudrup, De Boer, etc.) have ever signed for them and helped them to their (tainted) 9 in a row?

I know the reports have been suggesting that Rangers’ financial irregularities took place between 2001 and 2010, but does anyone believe that they could really afford guys like that on the income from Scottish football?

    ++++++++++

The money that Myth spent during his part of the fake 9:

    91/92: £7.2m

    92/93: £3.7m

    93/94: £5.2m

    94/95: £7.2m

    95/96: £11.6m

    96/97: £8.5m

    97/98: £14.5m

..and since his return (just because)

    06/07: £2m

    07/08: £10.5m

    08/09: £18m

    09/10: –

    10/11: £6.5m

Insane amounts of money in an era before CL payouts were bigger than a single game’s gate receipts, not that it’s at all relevant. I understand the orcs turnover in those days hovered around £18-23m per season, depending on whether they were knocked out of the CL in the first or second round of qualifiers.

I still find it hilarious that the orcs, whilst being a tad unhappy (understatement) with David Murray’s spend, spend, spend attitude (although it should be pointed out: they still can’t reconcile that such an attitude was what won them all those trophies – they genuinely seem to think these details are unrelated), they’ve yet to ask what happened to the ‘infrastructure’ funds from ENIC and David King.

This is particularly amusing, as Murray, despite taking all that money in and spouting he would build this, that and the next, continuously sold off parts of Orc FC instead.

A host of Rangers greats will entertain AC Milan Glorie in a glamour charity match at Ibrox Stadium on Friday 30 March 2012 with the Rangers Charity Foundation and AC Milan Foundation set to benefit from the match and a Legends Dinner at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Thursday 29 March 2012.

The Rangers Charity Foundation has arranged two unique events that are sure to capture the imagination of the Light Blue legions as some of the finest players ever to feature for Rangers and Serie A giants AC Milan will pull on their boots once again for charity.

The Rangers Legends side – managed by Walter Smith and captained by Richard Gough – will feature fans’ favourites including Brian Laudrup, Ally McCoist, Mark Hateley, Paul Gascoigne, Andy Goram, Lorenzo Amoruso, Jorg Albertz, Michael Mols, Trevor Steven and Arthur Numan. AC Milan Glorie will field a team drawn from a host of world class names such as Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Alessandro Costacurta, Christian Panucci, Gianluigi Lentini and Zvonimir Boban.

Rangers Manager Ally McCoist commented: “This is a fantastic initiative by the Rangers Charity Foundation and I know the match and charity dinner will really appeal to our supporters.

“It will be a pleasure to pull on the boots once again at Ibrox and it will be all the more special as I will be playing with lifelong friends against an AC Milan squad that features some of the greatest players every to grace a football pitch.

“It should be a fantastic few days in March and I know our supporters will turn out in huge numbers to support the work of the Charity Foundation.”

  7. Philvis – I don’t know of any Tim who would. Sorry, any normal Tim you are obviously excluded because of your well documented political insanity.

And what is wrong with calling him Sir? Personally I don’t agree with the concept of ‘knighthoods’, OBE’s, MBE’s CBE’s etc etc etc. Nor do I agree with Papal knighthoods and other honours.

I would never ever refer to someone as ‘Sir’, ‘Ma’am’, ‘My Lord’, ‘Your eminence’ or whatever.

It is archaic, it is elitist, it is snobbery, it betrays my republican and socialist principles and I know very few Tims who disagree with me.

never liked hately when he played with Rankers no need to alter my view……..he cannot and will not even begin to accept the position of the rfc plc ( in administration) supporters association, whose spokesman wee Dingwall accpeted that they had made a mistake and must pay the tax bill.

I have a memory that Hatley had to leave Scotland under a cloud and at the point of his welcome back and hand up by the MSM they really annoyed me at the time, for its low life approach to helping such a vain individual.

Wll said Sneddoni but, perhaps, if the orcs bring down the crumbling edifice which is Scottish football, perhaps, this represents our best chance of escape from this hell hole!

    HH

Very true! Something I have certainly thought about. But maybe, just maybe, without them, its not a stinking hell hole……??

There might just be a way back to Scotland being a good national side, that even qualifies for major competitions, and Celtic and other teams from Scotland, might make their way to the later stages of European competitions again. If thats possible, I want us not just there, but leading the charge!

  16. It’s surely not dificult to understand that a club that can pay higher wages has an advantage. That a club paying no tax has an advantage. And that both of these advantages are manifestly unfair in sporting terms, never mind the legalities involved.

But they have such a superiority complex that it doesn’t matter to them that they cheated. They know that they deserve to win and that’s all that matters. They don’t care how it was achieved. They don’t care who got hurt in the process. The important thing was that The Peepul came out on top.

  17. While 100% accepting that HATEley is a buffoon I reckon he is more of a buffoon for allowing himself to be used by the laptop loyal member who ghost wrote his “article”.

The LL are in full scale save the Hun, deflect and distort mode.

Each day they will invent ways to detract from Lenny’s achievements and possibly more importantly the Huns criminal activity leading £100M + fraugulent activity.

The nonsense about names, newco, history, institutions etc etc, etc is all because they couldn’t sell the Hunguffery that was “Scottish football needs the Rainjurs sh**e”.

It will continue. That is why Paul 67 is doing such a magnificent job.

There must be no respite, no remission in the pointing up of FACTs that Paul has done so excellently.

We, the Celtic support, must ensure that at no time, a Hun goes unchallenged when spouting their revisionist hunguffery.

Keep up the pressure, don’t be seduced by too much jelly and ice cream, as their end is nigh, if we stick to our task.

Across the city we have an individual who is likely to loose the title with a margin of 30 points possibly more. They cant come out quickly enough to praise his stoasims. Nothing to do with the calamitous signings no its the circumstances you see.Neil was never given that consideration last year nor would he accept it even adding his battle with depression into the mix yet incredible he came through it and united a fan base that saw what the press could not, namely backbone. So Moisty what are you, well your an imposter you are the court jester you are quite simply the man that wears the emperors new clothes.

Until Scotland creates its own version of a truth and reconciliation commission, there will unfortunately always be the need of another Rankers.

Rankers were not a big club in their early years. They became big because of the indignity felt by the many bigoted presbyterians who couldn’t bear to see a principally irish-catholic club succeed.

These people still predominate because of the shocking absence of education within their families, (non-catholic) skools , the meeja and the government about the problem!

Inclusion to these people means the Famine Song and the Billy Boys.

Opposing racism meant booing Bobo Baldie every time he played for us (when was that ever reported in the mainstream)

Justice to these people means creating laws to criminalise law abiding Celtic fans.

The fact that the new people in charge at Ipox are the administrators would make is sensible for the police to re-negotiate with those now in control. Why could SSN not get the info from Duff n Phelps !

You are entitled to your opinion on the honours system, etc. but Sir David is a Sir.

It is his title, bestowed by our much beloved Head of State (God bless her), and it is churlish to disrespect Her Majesty by pretending that he is not a knight of her realm.

Interestingly, John Reid once held opinions similar to you own, but he outgrew them and look where he is today! Being a communist got him nowhere. That’s something you should consider, maybe one day you too can become part of the British establishment.

One might harbour negative opinions about the medical profession, or academia in general, but it would be bad manners to refuse to address someone who is a doctor as “doctor”. Similarly whatever one’s views on religion, refusing to address a priest, a minister, or a rabbi by his proper title would be improper.
