SARACCHI: NEW TWIST

MARCELO SARACCHI has been told to find a new club by Boca Juniors.

The Uruguayan left-back had an impressive season-long loan at Celtic last term and was singled out for praise by Martin O’Neill.

It looked as though the deal would be made permanent in the summer after he had been allowed to go back to his parent club following the Hoops’ remarkable double-winning campaign.

Saracchi returned to the training ground yesterday – and was hit by news that he won’t be involved, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

A BIG HAND…Marcelo Saracchi applauds the Celtic fans after the champions’ 2-2 Premiership draw at Ibrox in March.

Head coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena, who agreed to take charge of the Argentinian giants just last month, broke the news to the 28-year-old defender that he was not in his plans for the new season.

It’s understood Saracchi was immediately ordered to train with a small group of exiled players the manager has decided will be put up for sale this summer.

The left-sided back-four performer was primarily used as back-up to Kieran Tierney, but still managed to rack up 27 appearances in all competitions.

Reports suggest Boca would allow Saracchi to move for £2million which is well within Celtic’s transfer range.

However, in the wake of the shock news from his club, other teams, most notably in the MLS, South America and Turkey, will be alerted.

The Parkhead club will have to act fast to bring in a player who became a fans’ favourite last term.
