SAWYERS NO DEAL

IT looks as though Celtic have lost out in their pursuit of Brentford’s Romaine Sawyers with the midfielder about to join West Brom in a £3million deal.

The Hoops had a bid of £1.5million for the 27-year-old club captain rejected by the Championship side earlier this month, as CQN reported.

New Hawthorns boss Slaven Bolic put in an enhanced offer of £2.2million two days ago, but, that, too, was knocked back by their leaue rivals who insisted on £3million for the player who is out of contract next summer.

However, the Midlands club have come in with a renewed submission and could reach an agreement today.

Sawyers started his career at West Brom, coming through the youth ranks at the club. He never played a first team game and left as a free agent. He moved to Walsall in 2013 and was there for three years before moving to Brentford.

Bilic also thwarted the Hoops’ attempts to lure 19-year-old midfielder Rekeem Harper to Parkhead at the end of his contract earlier this month.

He was poised to quit the Baggies, but was persuaded to sign a three-year extension.
