Scale of Euro achievement underlined

813

Last night my brother reminded me of a comment he made after the 0-0 against Benfica on match day one of the Champions League, “I hope we’re not sitting with one point after five games”.  Expectations can be as high as you like, but reality based on experience at that stage suggested Celtic would struggle to have more than a single point at this stage of the tournament.

A solitary point away from home in our Champions League history would lead the harsh realists to expect our trips to Lisbon, Barcelona and Moscow would be fruitless, leaving the enormous matter of tackling Barcelona at Celtic Park.

Two of those away games resulted in defeat, and we were behind in Moscow before one of the most significant fight-backs in modern Celtic history.  It’s difficult to find perspective for the win over Barcelona.  Suffice to say, they won 0-2 in Lisbon and 0-3 in Moscow.  Celtic’s 2-1 remains the most astonishing result of this season’s Champions League.

Manchester City’s failure to qualify for the knock out stage, with their seemingly limitless budget, tells the story of how difficult this tournament is.  England’s other mega-wealthy club, reigning European champions Chelsea, sacked their manager this week as the expectation they are likely to be eliminated at this stage dawned.

Beating Spartak and qualifying for the knockout stage will be suitable reward for a remarkable team.

The very first CQN Annual is NOW in stock and shipping order yours here! P.S. it’s great.

  1. If the whole of section 111 is occupied by the GB members and no-one else then I have been misled elsewhere by complaints of the GB blocking people’s view and I’m happy to withdraw that suggestion.

    Eh?

The ‘law enforcers’ have been trying hard and so far failed to secure a conviction against Celtic fans, not just those in section 111 but at away fixtures up and down the country.

This begs the question – why are they trying so hard? And whose flawed interpretation of the law are they acting on?

Stand up for the Green Brigade. If you are seriously complaining about other fans standing for a minute to acknowledge them then I hope you miss a goal ya balloon.

Nowhere do I make that suggestion t88. Straw man logic.

I share the views of Jock Thomson QC and Ian Hamilton QC regarding what is happening to our criminal justice system.

The whole of 111 is not occupied by the GB but the part the GB occupy is at the back. No one behind them.

    Well ghuys,

The sea cucumber is a lover of all things Masonic going by his high praise of them here last nigh, check it out. He definitely a member.

As for the GB bhoycott, it is actually aimed at the board, they know they are wasting their time on the police. If you have actually read their statement you’ll understand they have issues with the board on a number of grounds, from data protection to harassment from the Celtic security team.

As for the fascists drivel about no breaking the law, it uses THE only example of a successful conviction/banning order brought against them in the last few seasons, meanwhile many have been arrested and found innocent, however during the protracted legal cases every single one was issued a banning order by Celtic and required to have it lifted through the courts, a condition set by the board, they do not want these ghuys back hence every hurdle possible is put in their path to impede their return, the worst IMO is that they refuse to apologise to innocent victims of harassment and in fact are happy to continue this treatment.

Now many consider the GB too stupid to have tried following official procedure or that alternative methods of protest will be as effective in identifying their plight to the wider support, I disagree. The reason we have not heard anything from the GB on result of their official procedure route is thay they know exactly how damaging it would be to the club, and as we have seen from their very careful handling of this protest that is the last thing they want, hence a limited bhoycott to show the board there is more sympathy with the GB than the board credit them.

I expect if the board refuse to take notice of this protest and continue to ignore the situation we will see evidence of the GB’s response to official procedure from the club, this will cause major ructions within the support. The GB are trying to avoid confrontation, the board IMO really don’t care they see this as a power struggle.

Celtic supporters are deeply involved with our team and the board are expecting that instinct to override their treatment if sections of support they deem undesirable.

Just for the record, I am the most a-political individual you are likely to meet. Therefore digs over my perceived progressiveness are misplaced.

All politics are just a carnival distraction broadcast by MSM to fool the masses and hide the polarization of money and power. Frankly I’m surprised, with your obvious intelligence that you are so entrenched in a right wing perspective.

  11. The left have no issues with Jews. They have issues with one group of well armed, internationally backed aggressors stealing land from another group who are almost defenceless, mostly poor, keeping that group in de facto captivity, murdering their women and children.

    hello CQNer’s,

aslong as you got no weird (of the masonic kind) initiation process then i feel we should get on fine.

just been reading the comments on the zombies & have a question or 2 for ya’s which i feel could be pretty important in the outcome of the SPL/SFA investigation – although i am of the belief that the result’s of the FTT are the beginning of criminal cover up.

were the EBT’s paid over the course of the players contracts or were they made as a 1 off payment – & if the former is correct; were they appearance, goal & clean sheet bonuses?

not sure if any of the above has already been clarified, as i’m a bit behind the door on these dirty dealings.

& to the green brigade – keep up the good fight – YNWA!

    Hail hail!

  13. I think where we are in the Champions League is a massive achievement. When the group and fixtures were announced, I thought we would have to get off to a great start, but we drew the first game, and I had a feeling that the rest of the games would see us ‘competing’ but ultimately coming up short. (Which considering being 4th seeds, wouldnt actually be that bad). I thought and hoped that first game being drawn would mean it would come down to the last game, for wether we would be 4th or 3rd, thinking our crowd would take us over the line.

Beating Spartak turned things around completely. It meant depending on results, we could still be very close to Benfica and Spartak. I had hopes of a draw against Barca at home, would have taken that if offered straight away, so to be 1-1 away after 90 minutes, and 2-0 at home going into the final few minutes, was like a dream. It would be a real shame to beat Barca and not progress, but how could I be unhappy? Our team would fear no other in the uefa cup, and I expect most would want to avoid us. Having said that, even playing a top sead in the next round of the Champions League, I dont think we would get beat the same way Barca showed us up last time we got through. Progress would be very difficult, but I bet, the other team would be talking about having to make the most of their home game, as traveling to us and getting a result is by no means certain. Happy with the progress so far Neil…..!!!

  14. As the full import of the fttt is analyzed it becomes apparent that it’s a Pyrrhic victory of sorts for r.f.c. (deceased), a grubby wee outcome, par for the course for an establishment institution that must be allowed to continue, in whatever guise, whatever state.

It seems that though the club itself is let off the hook, tattered, bloody and ripped though it may be, and that several dodgy characters escape by the skin of their teeth, there has been tax evasion/avoidance practiced by individuals on a grand scale. Why, it almost looks conspiratorial, rigged, well thought out. Except it isn’t. It’s just a rubbishy wee scam that enabled the worst club in Europe to cheat and cheat and cheat.

They know this. But Scotland being Scotland, ludge heavy, they will skate.

However the latest incarnation of the orange horrors are on some very thin ice. Let’s see what their share issue scam produces. For them, one door closes and another one slams shut in their faces.

I’m off to watch fitba’ on the telly and listen to WGS’s wisdom.

Just reading back a few pages to your comment that Israel are Gods chosen people, they were once and he saved them many times at the hands of what appeared to be superior forces but when he sent his son as The Messiah whom they were expecting at that time they kiled him, after a kangaroo court in the middle of the night they sentenced him to death thus ending the covenant that God made with them. Since then they have no longer been Gods chosen people and rest assured my friend He will never come to their aid again.
