CELTIC will face stiff competition in their bid to bring Jeffrey Schlupp back to Parkhead.

The 32-year-old left-sided defender impressed Brendan Rodgers sufficiently for the manager to make a move to convert his loan switch into a permanent deal.

Schlupp arrived on a short-term switch from Crystal Palace in January after Alex Valle’s contract was scrapped and the youngster returned to Barcelona before a shift to Como.

HOOP HOOP HOORAY…Jeffrey Schlupp celebrates with the Celtic fans after scoring the opening goal in the champions’ 5-2 win over St Mirren in Paisley in March.

The Ghanaian international, who scored one goal in his 15 appearances, left the champions after coming so close to scoring the Scottish Cup winner against Aberdeen with an extra-time drive that almost demolished the crossbar.

Unfortunately, Rodgers’ men failed in their quest for a sixth treble in nine years in the penalty-kick shoot-out.

However, the Irishman wants a quickfire return for the versatile defender, but faces competition from his old club Leicester City who are regrouping for a new campaign following the disappointment of relegation from the Premier League.

Now Championship duo Queens Park Rangers and Millwall are joining the race for Schlupp, according to a report in London World.

The player was officially released by Palace yesterday following eight years at Selhurst Park.
