THE Kasper Schmeichel signing saga will come to an end when the keeper catches up with Celtic on their USA trip within the next 48 hours.
The 37-year-old Danish international legend passed his medical without a hitch and will now sign a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
Schmeichel was linked with the Hoops a year ago when he left Ligue 1 outfit Nice, but he decided on a short-term move to Belgian club Anderlecht.
JOLLY GREEN GIANT…Kasper Schmeichel is on his way to Celtic.
However, the Danish icon decided against extending his stay at the Brussels team at the end of the campaign and is now poised to be reunited with his former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers at the champions.
Ideally, Schmeichel would have flown out with the squad earlier this week, but plans for a physical examination last weekend while in Italy on a family holiday had to be pushed back after after they had been unavoidably delayed.
As anticipated, the netminder, who played four games for his nation in Euro 24, passed the medical without a hitch and local sports journal Tipsbladet confirmed it was just a case of getting “the ink on the contract” before the switch to Parkhead is sealed.
PARADISE…new Bhoy Viljami Sinisalo arrives at Parkhead on a five-year deal.
Earlier this week, the champions announced the £1million signing of 22-year-old Finnish international No.1 Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa who has already been spotted in training with his new team-mates in Washington as the Hoops prepare for the warm-up match against DC United on Sunday morning.
They will then face Manchester City on Wednesday and Chelsea on Saturday before returning to prepare for the Premiership kick-off against Kilmarnock at Parkhead on Sunday August 4.
Schmeichel, Sinisalo and Scott Bain will form the Hoops’ trio of shotstoppers for the new season with Joe Hart already in retirement and Benji Siegrist poised to quit Scotland.
