Science of developing prodigious Celtic youths

161

It is better to win trophies at youth level than to miss out, so I was happy to see Celtic Youths beat their Newco equivalents 3-2 in the Glasgow Cup last night, six days after losing the Scottish Youth Cup to the same score and opponents.

Those who pulled on the hoops last night are the pinnacle of years of development.  Each May, their number was whittled down.  To get to this point, they have to be exceptional young players.  The harsh reality is, that if two or more of them have successful careers in the first team, this will be an outstandingly successful generation.

Jack Aitchison, who opened the scoring last night, has made only two appearances in the three years since he became Celtic’s youngest player and goal scorer.  At 16 years and 71 days he was well ahead in the developmental curve.  At 19, Jack is the age Odsonne Edouard was when he arrived at Celtic.  He needs to be playing first team football soon.

On Sunday, Karamoko Dembele will be the age Jack Aitchison was when he made his Celtic debut.  Like you, I am desperate to see Karamoko, but I would rather see him playing week-in, week-out, three years from now, than expose him to too much, to soon.

I doubt Ronny Delia did any damage to Jack Aitchison by giving him a debut against Motherwell in 2016.  Similarly, Neil Lennon may be of a mind to play Karamoko before the end of the season.  As well as looking after the player’s development, Neil has to convince him and his family that Celtic is where he will develop best.

A debut helps achieve the latter, but the science of turning prodigious Celtic youths into first team regulars is still in its infancy.

  1. Good morning CQN from a lovely dry Garngad morning

A couple of things on my mind today.

Point1) Saturday is THE biggest game of the season, let’s get a win and I am quite confident we will, although I see that RAT Shay Logan will be back, so that tells me McInnes game plan against us will be the roughhouse tactics unlike when he played Sevco, the sheep never even got close to tackle a zombie.?

Point2) the new home strip, I quite like it and will be purchasing it for my hoops mad grandson.?

Point3) I listen to radio Snyde phone in most nights, and in fact used to call in regularly, and in one of my better calls gave Alex (the goonie monsterRay) it tight over his EBT/ loan that never gets paid back, the thick Cnut, well he isn’t really that thick he has conned HMRC for years and got away with it, anyway I digress, I had heard that Madden was on to talk about refereeing last night and I thought I would body swerve the show. The reason I body swerved it was that this was a publicity stunt for Snyde/ referees association to try and justify this weekends referee picks for the games this weekend and let us know that it’s a shame for the pooooooor wee referee. Bollocks. I see from another site that is exactly what happened, as Madden made out Beaton had a great game at Ipox against us and the abuse he got was terrible. Not questioned once about any of the most controversial refereeing decisions for years, letting Moreloss kick punch and stamp his way through the game, a total set up and again Bollocks.

Point4) Our glorious custodians have not uttered a dickie Bird about this hideous decision to put a Hun RAT who drinks in a loyalist pub in charge of one of our games ever again, why oh why ??? Is Lawell etc shite bags?? They are meant to look after the best interest of our our club, how the feck is letting a bigoted cheat referee our game in the best interest of our club, and don’t give me this shoite about talking to SFA / Authorities behind the scenes as if they had been doing that since December 29th then this cheating Rat would not ever be near another Celtic game. An absolute joke are our custodians.

All that said lets get the points needed and ram it right up them on Saturday???????- Loading, let’s get it loaded.

In eight years Celtic have had 17 penalties yet in 35 games this year Rangers have had 17 penalties.”

BILLY MCNEILL’s funeral will be broadcast for fans at Celtic Park tomorrow.

A statement released by the club with details of the service earlier this morning. For those who are unable to attend the church, the service will also be broadcast live at Celtic Park, where the funeral cortège will also arrive approximately at 1:30pm.

I know the romantic notion is that players come here and love it so much that they stay until the end of their careers. I find myself wondering if there is a time limit on how long a player should stay with us. With us starting Euro qualifiers about a week after the Scottish Cup and getting to the finals in all domestic competitions are our players burning themselves out?

The Knickerbockers from New Jersey. First heard it in the 70s and couldn’t believe it wasn’t the Fab Four.

Oasis certainly not the first Beatles rip-offs.

I bought it in the late 60s . It was in a bargain bag of 10 for a Quid US 45s from a supermarket in Cambridge St /Cowcaddens ( Grandfare ? ) Strange place which sold bulk purchase tinned food from the States and for a period had big wooden crates full of US choons down in the basement . Same place also housed people who bought /sold /redeemed stuff like Embassy Coupons / Pink Shield stamps etc. I got a lot of good choons from there . Shame i was skint , I would have bought more !!!!

  15. Hot Smoked,

Yeah i gather that, just wondered if Neil Lennon made the call, could it be an indication on the next manager.

Another year for Scott Sinclair, wonder who made that decision

A smart move,to guarantee a transfer fee when he gets punted in the summer.

  17. Pans Bhoy……….

    Is that stat legit….Incredible?

THAT picture of Moysey with The Auld Indulged Ned was done for guid reason.

Hope he is put beyond viable use and gets the national gig, it’s doubtful he’d get another job.

Funny you mention Grandfare. I did a week’s work there in 71 during the school break, the one in Robertson St. Didnt come across any crates of choons but saw plenty rats and mice. £7.50 for my efforts. Mind you, an under age pint was 18p…..i think.

  20. Gordybhoy @ 10:53

    Good point.

Sinclair baffles me. His stats are good but, in spite of that, he often seems to lack confidence yet is willing to take pressure penalties ( not that we get many if Prestonpans Bhoy`s stats are accurate !).

I would have though that having played at a high level in England, over confiddence would have been a more likely problem.

  21. Hot Smoked,

Most on here seem to think the same,a return to his first year form would be welcome,in saying that I would rather have him than Jake Hastie, the new wonderkid on the block.

  22. McPhail Bhoy on

Contained in the article ‘Boss explains Ajer ‘snub” Stephen McManus says that they probably forgot how young Ajer is! Really? 30 seconds on Google would have confirmed his age, this is not about ‘forgetting’ this is about not wanting all these Fenians to win everything, again as surely either Forrest or McGregor are shoe ins for the Player of the Year?

My ‘ underage ‘ was pre decimal . Figure of 1/10 a pint comes to mind . Mostly in the Carnarvon Bar on St Georges Rd with occasional trips to the State Bar (Holland St ) and a Hun infested dive called the Turf Bar on Paisley Rd West to see a man about a dog ( felt “politic ” to buy a pint rather than doing an in and out job ) . The joys of youth !

The ‘no reply yet’ scenario is typical of the difference between Celtic and the Govan Works X1.

IMMEDIATELY they bang in a public comment demanding a ban and we ask for an enquiry…!!

    Beggars belief.

Interesting though that there have been no comments never mind questions from the SMSM.

  25. I like Scott Sinclair. Great talent, currently out of form.

Are the wing slots for next aseason sorted? :

Forrest, Sinclair, Arzani, Shved with Johnston, Hayes also in the mix?

    Room for wee Paddy Roberts?
