Scot Gov can reset relations with 18,000 fans

144

It’s a new day, it’s a new dawn, it’s a chance for the Scottish Government to reset relationships with Celtic after the First Minister grandstanded over the club in August and January last season.  10,000 socially distanced fans waving Scotland flags were permitted into Hampden a full month ago.  In that time, Wembley’s attendances rose from 18,500 to 67,000, supported by higher levels of vaccination.

The tape measures have been out at Celtic Park; 18,000 people can attend while observing the 1m INDOOR socially distance requirement.  As of my last visit 16 months ago, the stadium had no roof.  From my seat in the back row of the North Stand, you experience birds flying high and a significant amount of fresh air meets your every breath.  From that perspective, this stadium is one of the safest in the world, and far safer than any bar you may consider watching the Midtjylland game from on Tuesday.

But this is Ms £600k, so you might want to book into a pub instead.  We will see if she offers Dom McKay an olive branch.  You know how I feel.

  1. Barkas,

    Ralston, Welsh, Urhoghide, Taylor

Not one should be first choice..some shouldt even be considered good enough

  2. Griff careers from one crisis to another. Injuries, fitness, diet, personal life, inappropriate social media use etc etc. Overshadowing all of that is his known mental health issues.

The club has given him more leeway than any player would normally deserve. At what point do you say enough is enough? I assume in the world of business, that point is normally when you are no longer of value. Care of duty to employees only stretches so far.

I remember often wondering what it would take for Rangers to get rid of Gasgoine. Alcoholic, showing up drunk on match days, battering his partner, inciting crowd trouble and so on. The sad reality was that as long as he had box office value on the park, they would forgive him anything.

You just knew when his playing career was over, his life would disintegrate.

I fear Griff might is on a somewhat similar self-destructive path though not to the same extremes.

CELTIC: Barkas; Ralston, Welsh, Urhoghide, Taylor; Soro, McGregor, Dembele, Turnbull, Johnston, Aje

Subs: Bain, Ntcham, Shaw, Robertson, Murray, Henderson, Montgomery, Hjelde, Moffat

    ………………………………………………..

The Wednesday bhoys aside, John Kennedy could have picked that side

    Hmmm CSC

  4. forget Ajer – I liked him as a full back and enjoyed his fist pumping tackles and drives up the pitch. BUT as a center half he can’t do the #1 job – jump and clear the box and/or do enough to distract attackers in the air.

Hopefully the centers we are looking at have that areal presence – Carl Starfelt I don’t know but we need that areal threat.

I’m happy to see we are linked with a couple of athletic/experienced French full backs – this would be great and could get the best out of ntcham and poss Eduard if he stays.

Hickey or similar on the left and we are heading in the right direction.

As for Griff – I just don’t know! I’m split – he’t got a helluva lost of convincing to do to Ange and Dom – if he shows no remorse, regret, determination – he has to go!

  5. BBC Scotland sports department at its very lowest. Item on racism in football had Bartley being interviewed by the abuse against, showing him playing against us. The subliminal message: Celtic=racists. This was immediately followed by an item showing Morelos again playing against us, with the information that a 17 teen year old had been charged with abusing him. Thus reinforcing their message that we are the racists in Scotland. No mention whatever of the racism we are targeted with a

    Barkas; Ralston, Welsh, Urhoghide, Taylor;

Bitton not in the squad. Is that the back 4 we are due to start against the Danes?

Don’t worry, we’ve got a 19 year old winger from our favourite Israeli agent.

I’d hoped for a fresh slate but more of the same from our Masters of the Universe.

  7. GRIFFITHS

It will surely be unconscionable for Celtic to retain the services of Leigh Griffiths. The incident was deemrd not to be a criminal offence, so was that of SNPcult’s MacKay. He was ridiculously allowed ‘gardening leave’ on full pay until his term in office was up.

Perhaps then Griffiths will be offered a pay off – ‘gardening leave’ would mean him still employed by Celtic – taking all his ‘previous’ also into account, surely that would be out of the question.

So he pockets a year’s salary and signs for Hibs the next day. The football world is not the ‘real world’ – being wilfully unfit to do your job usually means instantaneous dismissal in the ‘real’ world.

PCS- You’re absolutely right to pick up on the stage managed shite, from BBC Scotland sport Dept,a rancid organisation

  9. Barkas injured in the warm up – Bain in goal.

Johnson pulls his hamstring – Montgomery on.

Karamoko gets blootered – Henderson on.

    0-0 HT.

Celtic dominated possession & had some nice sweeping moves but didn’t create a clear cut chance.

Ajeti had 2 shots blocked& put one onto the side netting.

Bristol City hit the post from their only corner.

Bain is fine but not had a save to make. His distribution is better than Barkas.

    Urhoghide looks a little nervous.

McGregor & Soro are our top men with Stephen Welsh & Turnbull not far behind.

  10. Second Half.

Liam Shaw replaces Soro who seemed to be nursing a knock towards the end of the 1st half.

    The only change.

A lot of positive signs there, looking much fitter, much more tackles going in,Big Oz,Shaw,Murray, didn’t create a lot though

I enjoyed the game tonight, took it as a positive clean sheet.

Scoring goals is difficult when passing football turns into passing the buck football. Engage your opponent, guys.

Since we drew to play Midtjylland, I’ve been concerned who did we have to stop Sviatchenko scoring a header in the two games coming up? We had no-one in place with the necessary aggresive intent, Jullien being injured, after Scott left and Shane went back to his club.

Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide are Tuesday starters for me.

  14. Thanks to all on CQN who answered the call to prayer last night for Leigh Griffiths and his family. Most of all, thanks to St Jude for his intercession.

  15. Interesting performance tonight — some good / some not so good.

One highlight was the performances of CMcG and DT — both were a class above the game they were playing in

CMcG — played very well on the left with individual skill and movement.

DT — class act linking the play and working the ball around with the potential to find a cutting pass.

We played well in the first half although we seemed to play on their 18 yard line and look to walk the ball into the net.

    Other highlights:

AM has something — possibly just confidence but he was positive.

EH is still looking for something / anything — lots of work needed starting with his engagement with the game being played around him.

Not sure about the pecking order of the defence.

SW — had his moments but needs more support / coaching.

OU — Looked happier / more involved at RB compared to CB where he played as if his studs were too long.

DM — Didn’t look out of place when he came on but still a bit raw.

LFH — Looked better at LB than GT who was his usual curates egg self.

    Also …

IS — Slow start but got better.

LS — took an age to get into the game and is still a bit off the pace.

KD — Looked good until he got clogged.

MJ — Missing in action again.

TR — Please no more 40/50 yard passes.

SB — Not a GK for us.

  16. First 11 for next Tuesday’s game:

    Bain.

    Ajer.

    Taylor.

    Welsh.

    Bitton (unless Swedish boy in)

    McGregor.

    Soro.

    Turnbull.

Forrest (if not ready, then Israeli boy).

    Edouard.

    Ajeti.

Some decent looking prospects on last night but most not ready for this game next week.

    Liked the look of Murray.

  17. We don’t have a right back, so if he’s still here, then Ajer should play there next week. Not ideal but I’d play Bitton (yes Bitton again) alongside Welsh. Unless of course we sign and he’s ready, Starfelt.

Same applies to Forrest, hopefully he’s fit, if not I’d go with the Israeli boy.

I’d also play edouard, left of Ajeti. Get through against the Danes and we garauntee group football.
