Scot Gov minister cheap attack on Celtic fans

276

You know what happened.  Celtic fans celebrated our league win in the city centre on Saturday.  In contrast to the carnage that visited the city a year earlier, there were no serious incidents and, by Police Scotland’s own statement, there were only minor issues to deal with.  Forget the facts, that’s not the impression some people want to give the world about Celtic fans.

We can speculate that the Herald/Times journalist who yesterday wrote on Twitter, “Glasgow’s city centre has been left in a total state this morning. Broken glass, cans rubbish all over the place. It’s worse than my pics can show” was motivated to a specific end.

The four photos which accompanied his Tweet showed overwhelmingly tidy streets.  Streets that appear tidier than on any average Sunday morning.  As far as smear attempts go, this one was laughable.  If you cannot find photos of “rubbish all over the place”, don’t put photos up showing the opposite!

A year ago, Scottish Government minister, Patrick Harvie, criticised Newco fans for their trashing of Glasgow and received the kind of backlash you would expect.  Like a self-seeking politician, he was itching to show equivalence yesterday.

Responding to the laughable Tweet showing tidy streets, Harvie, declared, “I don’t care which football team wins anything, or whether someone else behaved worse last time or not. Trashing the city centre, and other behaviour I saw yesterday, is unacceptable. Show some respect for your city and the people you share it with.”

This was a deliberate attack on you and me by a government minister to satisfy his own ends.  Harvie and his cabal are not even ‘green’ in the political sense.  He publicly celebrated his First Minister buddy when she failed to call on the Westminster government to scrap the Cambo oil field.

Harvie even went after Greenpeace, when they had the temerity to criticise the Scottish First Minister, surely a unique moment in ‘green’ politics.  If he cannot convince Greenpeace of his green credentials, you have to wonder what his motivations are (note: it appears to be transgender politics).

A deliberate act of throwing Celtic fans reputation under the bus without any justification is appalling behaviour for a government that should always act impartially, not seek false equivalence.  Celtic fans will no longer sit back and be abused like this by a low-rent ideologue.

  2. Knew the media would try to equate Saturday’s good natured celebrations with the George Square riots of last year.

They are so predictable in going out of their way to find a negative on our celebrations.

  3. If this season doesn’t jolt the board into action then nothing will.

We cannot live of FMcC forever.

We need to start making plans for the future.

The whole football world has changed over the last 10 years and we watched and did nothing.

Not sure about the state of the season ticket waiting list but there definitely is demand that we cannot accommodate — the question is do we have the vision and desire to make change happen.

One man has transformed the SPL football side of things and now he wants to move onto other matters — at some point DD is going to have to pass bodily waste matter or get off the pot.

We can’t just jog along with more of the same after the efforts that AP has put in this season and the progress that he has made — to do so would be to repeat twenty years of stagnation and failure.

Need to get our erse into gear — £100mill bond should set us up for the next 20 years.

Paying out 3% base / 4% if we win the SPL / 5% if we make the CL knock out rounds.

Knock out rounds is last 16 / not the qualifying rounds.

We add in £25mill from our own resources to keep the underwriters sweet.

Now that PL is off the books we should be able to afford this amount and more.

Rebuild the main stand — make a statement / build all the way down to London Road.

Build the CFC Village behind the JS Stand — include a proper museum / big shop / a couple of hotels..

Full size indoor pitch at L/town — the B/fields pitch is already in the budget..

B Team Stadium — area in front of the Emirates would be the place to start.

If the owner tries to pull a stroke then move swiftly on..

Upgrade Crownpoint — JV with Glesga Life.

Set up P/head Juniors / Upgrade the pitch nearest the road at B/field.

Set up the Champions Walk from the G/gate and to Dalmarnock Station..

Stick some money into the community — upgrade the sports facilities at 4 nearest secondary schools.

Pump prime to get more money off the Lottery / GCC / Holyrood.

Outwith bricks and mortar we should start up a scholarship scheme to generate a CFC Students team — would be a great draw for middle class talent from the US / Canada / Aus … Lenzie / Bearsden.

The Yanks all love a good cloister.

The main thing is that now is the time to do it.

If the AP angle gets any bigger we will need to find homes for half of Aus.

  4. Indeed. You knew it was coming.

To the untrained eye I was working on the garden all weekend. I was in fact actually trashing it. Digging holes, throwing things in the ground etc.

We know what to do the next time.

Hire some folk t wander about with big bins and hand over tee shirts for a big bag of empties.

As for PH — total snider / erse of a guy never mind politician.

Rules are for everyone else / the small people but never him.

We must have too much noise on Saturday so that couldn’t hear his yoga tape as he practised his moves on his balcony — total f*nny.

He wouldn’t know progressive politics if it came up and bit him on the erse.

He would probably enjoy the experience / ask for its number and arrange to meet again with some pals.

Funny that — I wonder if he made any comment about that incident?

Just maybe, this week could be the week the Club officially distances us from the OF tag,as you can be sure, the SMSM will tell us OF ‘fans’ have wrecked the beautiful city of Seville

  11. Paul you love trying to score political points. Your red tory pal Paul Sweeney also got in on the act by criticising the Celtic support for supposedly trashing the Mercat Cross building. Please try and be impartial when you quote politicians. You’re campaign against any Independence supporting group is so boring.

  12. Bhoyjoebelfast on

The people of seville will have their lives disrupted- unlike 2003.The undisciplined will behave in a way that we have grown to accept from them, would if be fair that some of the Scots media are actually not looking forward to this game- because of the ill -reared behaviour that will emanate from the louts.Maybe if they run true to form a hefty fine and a ban coming.

  13. Don’t think the “Bad publicity” is that bad at all.Harvie, you know has been quoted with what the questioner has wanted to write. We hear the questions, all loaded at every press conference. Regarding the team.

Thing is,its on record, they all slaughtered them last year. Not a word so far freely spoken by anyone.

All nonsense. We have all seen the litter, mess that large gatherings make. How does the area look after a TRNSMT concert ?.

    No it`s not !

  15. MMcC @ 12.25

Red Tory — you are not a very original thinker are you?

We should bung the council £10K and tart up the Mercat Cross building.

  16. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Held to a standard reflecting his position and all that …

  18. As you can expect the usual suspects trying hard to turn a happy occasion to a turd nothing at all was so hard it merited the joke reaction it got !

My only 2 complaints bursting a door open to get on the roof .. No need also the Muppets getting pictured taking drugs I hope their mother lays one on them that was indeed complete ned behaviour .

Anything else was nothing else …

  19. P67

    Spot on about Harvie’s reaction.

The Sun and Herald employees have kick started the whole thing off.

The Celtic board can’t do anything about Harvie but they can tell both newspapers to take a hike.

If your same anger is displayed in the boardroom then surely we will hear in the next few hours how Celtic have taken action, as anything else would be hypocritical.

  20. Any collectors out there?

  22. Went and had a look at the tweet. If I hadn’t have been told otherwise, I honestly would thought he was taking the proverbial in a tam sellic type of way. My goodness what a Richard.

  23. Great to start the week as Champions, Mondays seem much better. Looking back now we can say it was never really in doubt, was it :)

Now it’s all over again, and we head into a long relaxing break from football I would like to say thanks to Paul67 for providing us with the most excellent CQN. Nowhere as good, nowhere like it on the Timternet.

We’re a lucky bunch to have it.

  24. Paul67

Poor Mr Harvie he doesn’t even know what he is.

Irrelevant tit for tat, whataboutery with litter as the reason, is par for the course in Scotland when compared with it’s shame of repeated violence, mayhem, and arrests.

Maybe he comes from a long line, who back in 1960 visited Wolverhampton some ten thousand allegedly congregated on the midlands, or sources said ‘ descended on the streets like a Hun hoard ’ .

They’re on the move, wonder why the name seems to have stuck?

  25. Bada

A mate travelling on a business trip this morning from edinburgh airport , says police already been called there.

My prediction for what its worth.

Huns win, there will still be dozens of arrests .

Huns lose , pick a number .. my guess, into the hundreds
