GREG TAYLOR has been overlooked by international boss Steve Clarke for Scotland’s UEFA Nations League double-header against Greece.
The Celtic left-back, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been a regular in recent national squads and has won 14 caps for his country.
However, Taylor’s last appearance for Brendan Rodgers’ side came in the first-half against Hibs at Easter Road last month as the visitors lost their second league match of the season.
OVER AND OUT…Greg Taylor fires a shot over the bar as Celtic toil in the first-half against Hibs at Easter Road on their way to a second league loss of the season.
The 27-year-old defender was replaced at the interval by Jeffrey Schlupp with the team 2-0 adrift.
The Hoops picked up in the second period, pulled a goal back through Daizen Maeda and were then wrongly denied an equaliser seven minutes from time by the Japanese ace after an erroneous intervention by VAR official Alan Muir.
Taylor missed the next game, a 5-1 win over Aberdeen at Parkhead, with his wife going into labour and the new father has been an unused substitute in the back-to-back victories over St Mirren (5-2) and Hibs (2-0).
Schlupp, on loan from Crystal Palace, has been given the nod on both occasions and scored his first goal for the club in the victory in Paisley.
Taylor’s period of inactivity will now be extended with Clarke leaving him out of his plans for the matches against the Greeks, with the first leg due a week on Thursday in Piraeus and the return at Hampden three days later.
Ironically, there is a comeback for Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney, who has been involved in recent outings with Arsenal before his freedom-of-contract return to Parkhead.
SCOTLAND CALLING…Anthony Ralston is Celtic’s sole reprensative.
Anthony Ralston is the only representative of the champions although there was a push for the impressive Luke McCowan to be included.
Instead, though, Clarke has brought in Motherwell’s 18-year-old Lennon Miller who, of course, has been linked with the Parkhead club this term.
