Scott Allan back, Newco will have a plan!

423

Scott Allan had an enormous August, feted by more than one club before joining the champions, so the emotional crash caused by his subsequent injury must have been significant. It was great to hear him return to action with the youths against Hearts last night. We’re competing in three competitions in the coming weeks, so there should be ample opportunity for Scott to get his feet under the table.

I’m a bit curious at reports Dave King and other Newco majority shareholders have agreed a plan to pay Charlies Green’s legal costs, “should they be ordered to do so by the court”.  Aye, very good.  It’s all a bit of a let down to me, who was hoping to see Dave take on the courts, before coming to an inevitable satisfactory outcome with them.

It puts a hitherto unknown limit on the modesty of Mr King, who has now apparently accepted his authority is below that of the Scottish court system. What we haven’t heard is what that plan is, who is going to stump up the cash, or who is going to make up the trading shortfall for this season.  I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about.

With no assets to secure and the prospect of a criminal trial rendering the business unsustainable, further investment at this stage is an act of considerable faith. Such acts do happen, think back to our own John Keane in 1994, who paid £1m to stop the Bank of Scotland putting Celtic into administration. It’s just this kind of act doesn’t seem to happen at Ibrox.  I wonder why?

Today, by complete chance, whilst trying to delay going back to work (and continuing to do so as I type) I stumbled across a freesheet publication, dragged into my house by Mrs TK, which professes to be Scotland’s Largest Lifestyle Magazine namely, “i-on Glasgow”.

This small glossy rag, resplendent with adverts and puff pieces on pretentious boutiques and restaurants, mainly located in the trendy, west-endy, part of town, did however produce a surprise as, flicking through it, I spotted a vaguely familiar face.

Doing a double-take, I quickly returned to page 34 and there – grinning back at me – was the face of none other than – Derk Boerrigter!

Well done for spotting Derk………I’ve forgotten what the big imposter looks like :O(

  10. The only thing missing from king’s statement is that it should have started with “I will tell you this…….”

  11. Glibs statement….

DAVE KING has released the following statement:

Supporters have requested an update on the Club’s relationship with Sports Direct which is one of the key issues that I promised to deal with prior to, and after, being elected to the board of Rangers International Football Club.

It is widely known that Sports Direct applied to court for an injunction to prevent myself and my fellow directors from disclosing certain details of the agreements between the Club and the Sports Direct group, including the existence or detail of any meetings between the parties.

The gagging order prevents me from disclosing the details of our contractual relationship it does not prevent me from updating supporters on the status of the general relationship with Sports Direct.

Sports Direct continues to litigate with the Club in an attempt to enforce its wishes and demands. This seems based on the simple logic that Sports Direct can outspend the Club in legal fees and thereby deal with the Club as it pleases. I assure supporters that the Club will not be cowed by this threat and the recent lack of communication (as a result of the gagging order) belies the level of robustness with which the Club’s interest has been and will be protected.

Furthermore, I have sent letters to Sports Direct in my capacity as a director of Rangers Retail Limited taking them to task for poor business practices and corporate governance failures. The Club believed that it was entering into a joint venture with a large public company that would behave as a partner should and would conduct its business affairs in an appropriate fashion.

In my 40 years of business, I cannot recollect having dealt with a public company that is run more like a wholly owned family business and appears unconcerned with other stakeholders – partners or otherwise. It remains my intention to ensure that Sports Direct is legally and financially held accountable for its failures.

Nothing to really say here. Looks like SD are still using litigation but it can’t be discussed because of the injunction.

  18. Re the ole DK statement, it’s this final sentence that got me,

“It remains my intention to ensure that Sports Direct is legally and financially held accountable for its failures.”

Anyone want to have a stab at what these ‘failures’ by Sports Direct might be?

Looks like GASL is demonstrating that he has the business acumen to up the ante at Sevco.

This time it will be TWO big boys that done it and ran away – Chuck Green and Mike Ashley.

  21. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Of course if King isn’t happy with the SD deal he just needs to pay back Big Mike’s loan.

Anyway, at least they are “comfortably funded” till the end of the season…..

KJ: Have you ring-fenced the money you think will be required?

DK: No, but I have had discussions with my family and told them: ‘This is your inheritance I’ll be spending.’

And even though they are all South Africans they have said: ‘Dad, go for it!’

It’s their inheritance but they have said: ‘Spend it and don’t worry about it.’

  25. Jobo

Would imagine a statement like that needs to finish with…’and we are going to do as follows’. What he said could not have been more vague. It’s all bluster and the act of a desperate man. Sports Direct could put them into Admin in 2 seconds flat. I have long suspected they were going to blame Green and his legal costs for putting them into Admin but they might not even make it that far.

  26. I sat next to eamon Holmes in Heathrow lounge once, he was an arrogant pompous twat on the mobile complaining to the p.a. about travel to Manchester.
