Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

I was astounded that at a Spanish Rock Festival which is 75% attended by Brit and Irish tourists, that only 3 fitba teams were represented in any number. Celtic by far the most, followed by Leeds and Man City. Kaiser Chiefs Leeds fans were mental in a good way. All Celtic fans too. :)

Ronny had been tracking his progress since his days in Norway.

I’m all for spreading the cash to lower leagues BUT we have just bought a player from a lower league club, which failed to beat a team which finished below them for a play off game for Premiership.

Maybe he is the new Xavi and BFDJ is a football guru.

What is the problem with Scott Allan ?

I am sure Ronny hasnt bought him for the CL but maybe he sees something in him for the future, I don’t understand why you would be against our manager picking up a bargain (in his eyes) for a couple of hunner gees not much too lose and Liam gets a few games

  10. If Celtic don’t get past Malmo ( strangely enough I reckon we will)…..no amount of gazumping a Hun for the council hoose on the corner of the main road by an extra 5k , will deflect from what Celtic fans think about our ‘custodians’ ….

At least the Kellys and the Whites played badly with their own money…..

Trumping the Huns for a lower league player won’t deflect the incoming for you Lawwell..

    Just go now…..PLEASE

A permanent embarrassment and an equally permanent disgrace.

Oh dear…. Do you not think our manager has some influence on who we sign and has a plan.

  14. Give credit where it is due, that’s twice the hard of learning have applauded a future Celtic player onto the Easter Road turf prior to signing for Celtic…

DD- not surprised mate. Knightswood hun-counter is well down on last year. Bridge over the Nolly had Green Brigade stickers all over the shop!

  16. There’s a hysteria building up around us at the moment.

The Scott Allan signing is part of it.

I suggest we all take a big deep breath and count to ten.

Paulus LXVII, Salve Salve Benedicamus Te – Site is settling, you are enjoying this aren’t you?.

If young Scott is to be a success, he will need a lot of understanding , support and time. This will be a great test of character for him and also for the Celtic support for sometimes patience will be needed.

Anyhoo good to see football is sometimes discussed on the blog.

  18. RUDICANTFAIL,

We’ve signed a new player & you take the opportunity to take a swipe at Lawwell; why? Moreover, what is it that makes you have such a low opinion of our CEO? Surely you wouldn’t like us to be ran like the other mob on the south side?

Don’t you be wearing your light chinos to the game tomorrow. There’s a lot of mud at Kelvingrove and you could follow through after a lager and curry frenzy!

  21. How can Celtic hope to progress by signing a player…only reason to put the Hun Bassas into apoplectic rage?

There are no footballing reasons to sign Scott Allan

Please show me one and I will desist from this?
