Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

    The bigger picture.

The symbolism of an apparently avowed Rangers supporter deciding to sign for Celtic.

That message alone is worth the money we have paid.

A message which will not be lost on the hun and it`s fellow travellers.

If the signing works out, that`s a bonus.

    Welcome young Scotty.

Wife says I’m worried about the wean ,what happens if we dont win:))).

nothing to worry about BOSS, from the moment his eyes spring open in the morning it is operation Celtic day,

1st thing he will see will be his clobber for the day, hanging up for him,

as we eat we will make plans and predict scores & scorers,

Then it’s “uniform time “as I smile through the tears :)))

then it’s onto the bus early doors, telling anybody that will listen that this big bhoy is going to his 1st Celtic game.

Then as we get of the bus and start to mingle with other fans,we will say Hail Hail to every Tim we see ,

As we approach the stadium but not yet seeing its full beauty ,its buy his very own scarf and tammy(he has plenty but this one will be a special one).

then it’s turn the corner and booooooooooom there it will stand before us PARADISE in all its spleandor,

Even though he will probably be fed up getting his photo taken by his papa & strangers his papa has asked to take photos of us ,

we will then walk the full lenght of the stadium from the away end at the corner of the LL stand all the way round being told what I know of the heroes hanging from the banners, all the way round to the front door, pointing out “bricks with family names on them.

Then its Brother Wilfred , jinky & jock.

After that its CQN corner time to meet more good folk that I have met on my journey, then and only then its time for the Game ,

The moment we walk into the stadium, I hope will last him a life time then

He wants to sing Willie Maley, let the people sing and Cmon you bhoys in green .

We will watch the game till the final whistle no matter the score then we will leave the stadium with the rest of our Celtic Family before going to McDonalds(I dont like to )but he has put in a special request so who am I to deny it, then its getting picked up by his aunt and we head for home , so as I say win lose or draw the game is only part of the experience of following the Celtic,

Sorry for going on but I,m buzzin about tomorrow 54 and I will struggle to sleep tonight:))))))))

Ps The Boss is also reassured.

  5. Bright and early in darkest Lanarkshire, lot to do today. Work interfered a lot yesterday meaning that trip to CP today will have to be replaced with unpaid overtime. Not happy, but the man has to be kept happy.

Almost missed the gym yesterday because of work load but scraped in before they closed to complete my 3rd 5k of week with another 10 seconds of the time. No after effects either, I could well make my target weight for the Barca trip.

Happy for the way the SA deal was handled, there are right ways and wrong ways to go about your business. As BFDJ would say ” that’s for sure”

Disappointed to lose Liam Henderson to a loan deal, the lad is IMO above the level he has been loaned out at, cant see the development he will achieve playing at such a low level, also not convinced Allan Stubbs was the correct manager either, hope we have secured the lad at least guaranteed playing time, Hibs have played a blinder here……..many Hibees claim McGeouch was better than Scott Alan last season and to secure Liam Henderson as well………….Petrie has always negotiated well on behalf of the Hibs……good luck to both Liam and Dylan

There’s only one big dog in the yard these days.

  12. The events of the past few days have been like an episode of The Sting. The deadboys and their Pact of ‘Steal’ allies, the SMSM, had backed Stubbs and Hibs into a corner with only one possible outcome, or so we thought.

Football and footballers aside, the swiftness of events over the past two days have been marvelous, leaving the Pact of ‘Steal’ looking like inept idiots. This was no ‘Mo Jo’ affair but it sure was fun.

It must have been a body blow to Liam Henderson initially, however I expect him to show real character and emerge as one of Hibs’ main players this year and ours in years to come.

There were some positives fom the Killie game, like the electric pace of James Forrest, but despite some good football from us, we showed a naive care-free attitude to the art of defending.

I hope the Malmo game leaves us confident to acquire a defensive minded left back and centre half, along with a goal scoring striker.

Looking forward to the game today, which of course has been boosted by the arrival of Scott Allan and the echo of much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Think it may work out to be a good signing, but I also firmly believe Liam should be a first choice or full time squad player, and he would develop quicker playing the higher grade of football. Why do we have to sweeten the deal with our best young player,we should have sent the very average Mcgreggor to Leith. Also signing another scottish player worries me technically scottish players are mostly very poor, rather see us signing a reasonable class foreign player with a bit of experience,

  26. Can’t get the grin off my face. This is soooo good. And we unveil our latest signing on the 15th of August – one of the biggest feast days of Our Lady!!!
