Scott Brown defence, pyro problems, the joy of Ryan Christie

265

Scott Brown was assaulted at Ibrox on Sunday and was relentlessly taunted for a family bereavement.  His trademark celebration was understated but marked the treatment he received.  He has been cited by the SFA for “not acting in the best interests of Association Football.”  There is plenty of precedent for Celtic’s legal team to call in his defence.

I have stood within two yards of Celtic fans throwing pyrotechnics onto the field of play.  I have also been in a stairwell, exiting a game with thousands of other packed Celtic fans, when a device went off to the delight of a handful, causing panic to hundreds of others.

If you think appealing to a desire not to damage the reputation of Celtic fans will stop those throwing pyrotechnics, you are wrong.  The reputation of Celtic fans is inconsequential to anyone who throws an item at a player or onto the field.  This is their chance to set their own rules, their personal reputation remains just fine.  If you think they are going to stop because Neil Lennon tells them to, you are deluded.

This will result in blanket video surveillance, a handful of prosecutions, and then we will get back to normal, when Celtic fans’ reputation was the envy of world football.

How much have we missed Ryan Christie?  It is not just what he personally brings, it is having him, Callum McGregor and James Forrest on the field at the same time allows us to move the ball at a pace that is not possible without them.

CELTIC Football Club today announced that it is carrying out a full investigation into last night’s events at St Mirren Park in an attempt to identify those who are responsible. The club will take the strongest action possible should it be able to identify anyone involved.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “Last night’s incident was completely unacceptable and not something we ever want to see repeated. The safety of everyone in football – players, fans, staff, and officials – should always be our priority and, collectively, we need to do all we can to ensure this remains the case.

“There have a been a number of incidents across many clubs this season, with a range of items, including pyrotechnics, being thrown on to pitches. We need to do all we can to remove this from our game.

“From a Celtic perspective, the club does not want it, our players do not want it, our manager does not want it and our supporters do not want it.

“There are serious safety concerns associated with such behaviour, and regardless of the obvious reputational damage which this kind of behaviour has on the club, there are numerous potential repercussions which could have hugely detrimental consequences for the club and our supporters.

“Our supporters are fantastic and we greatly value their contribution. It is the positive support of our fans this season which has helped us deliver one trophy this season and a 13-point lead in the Scottish Premiership. We achieved another excellent away win last night and our on-field success should be the real talking point.

“This kind of behaviour, indeed any form of unacceptable conduct, only serves to tarnish the reputation of the club and our own fans. We need to all work together to make sure this stops now.”

Don’t you think that for an unprecedented action the SPFL might come up with an unprecedented punishment – like points deduction? Let’s say sevco are 9 points behind. A 10 point deduction might be the penalty, it might even be 20 points.

Way too risky an action given what we know about the people that run Scottish football.

    …………………………….

    ROCK TREE,

I take your point, BUT may I make Two further points that could be relevant ?

    1) In view of those 800 Hun supporters being terrified of One Scott Brown ( According to Gerrrad, Halliday was only PROTECTING His People ?),if Celtic walked Off the Pitch against Sevco “Citing” that our Players felt Threatened etc with the Bigoted, and Vile Behaviour/Atmosphere by Hun supporters, how could The Sfa/SPL prove different ? Dont forget, Celtic Players got accused of causing injury to Disabled Hun fans, when their own Mob surged forward tried to get on the Pitch at Celtic Park ? They accused Celtic Players of “Endangering them, by simply walking around the Pitch, applauding the Celtic support.

    2) It has been “Reported” from last nights game v St Mirren, that their Manager thought about taking his Players OFF the Pitch after the Banger went off. If he did so, do you honestly think that The Sfa would issue a Points deduction to St Mirren, again IF they claimed that the Safety of their Players was threatened ? whether its ice on a Pitch etc, when a Ref calls a game off, they always “Cite” that players safety is Paramount.

Back to my 1st point and my agreeing with ROWLEY, IF Celtic/Lenny instructed our Players to walk off the Pitch due entirely to fears for OUR Players safety, how could The SFA/SPL May otherwise, ESPECIALLY when there is Previous with Hun fans assaulting our Players at Ipox, and attempting to invade the Pitch at Celtic Park last September ?

As ROWLEY stated, if we did walk off the Pitch v Sevco “Citing” the Health and Safety” of our Players it would get Worldwide exposure to the behaviour of that Govan Mob.

  5. Broonies big smile on

Long time lurker, here’s my tuppence worth over last few days:-

Morelos elbow smash on Broonie wasn’t his first of the game. He did it in the Celtic box, can’t remember might have been on Ajer. High ball came in, he made no attempt to header only to lash out. Love how the zombies see him as the victim.

Kent is a good player, possibly their only good player but he also has a short fuse. One for Broonie and team to remember next game at Ipox should Kent not be suspended.

Final whistle Broonie didn’t run to the away support and in fact was walking away towards the bench when Halliday ran the 20 odd yards to confront him. Again short fuse but may have been scripted the way McMoisty wound up Lenny on defeat back in the ‘shame game’. Season ticket renewal time best to be focused on big bad Broonie rather than SlippyG’s lack of trophies or his recent high cost loanee flops. Anyway holding up eight fingers is nothing as is smiling when you’ve been punched, kicked and elbow smashed in one game.

Lastly, starting to warm to Lenny getting the gig next season. Aberdeen home game we had a stone wall penalty not given in first half that could have gave him 100% win rate. Also having watched last nights team play I now think Lenny got the team correct against zombies on Sunday.

Anyway off to practice my offensive smiling along with some aggressive blessing myself – only in Scudland.

GB statement — they have an ego the size of Jupiter. For a glee / booster club full of weans and Peter Pan types — that takes some doing. Do they own or control the full standing section?

The rail seating aka safe standing section accommodates around 2,800 folk. The Green Brigade occupy the front of that secion but my understanding is that they are only maybe 200 – 300 in number (happy to be corrected). They do tend to lead the singing but they certainly don’t represent the whole of The Stauners of which I am one.

I agree with your sentiment, if we lived in a country that was fair and equal to all I’d be all for it, but we don’t. Remember the Alexander Tonev (the on loan Bulgarian) case? Shay Logan’s word – no other evidence – was enough for the authorities to hand him a 6 game ban, effectively ending his time with us, that’s who we are dealing with.

Bottom line for me is we live in a predominantly protestant country that see sevco as the establishment club, not us. If the authorities can come up with a new way to screw us they will. Taking a team off the pitch during a match and not returning – that’s an open goal for them regardless of the reason, for sure they would hammer us. We are not dealing with people who are Fair and Reasonable Jimmy.

  13. Celtic, and as if to rub salt into open wounds Neil Lennon as the supremo incumbent of an eighth title in row, and eight successive trophies, sitting 13 points clear in the league, is clearly just too much for some to bare. The ‘case’ against Scott Brown Celtic’s captain since 2010, opens new previously locked doors in terms of being treated differently, and our continuing total dominance is a major factor.

They cannot catch Celtic on the new relatively level playing fields, so they’ll hammer away at every opportunity on anything that resembles misdemeanour in our support, we will be pulled up, and our name blackened. SMSM will wade in, and misreport for Scotland, and a firecracker is BBC’s heinous crime of the week, while Celtic fans are still in hospital from the weekend’s injuries.

SNP only stopped short at a full scale summit meeting, when they realised that only Sevco were involved just like old Rainjurz, and Celtic were blameless apart from celebrating success in our own stadium. This type of injustice is a feature of our club, and whether you partly blame our own ‘leaders’ or not, is a matter of choice. Hopefully, Celtic have learned from the Alexander Tonev case that silence wasn’t golden, and the player was shamefully under gunned without the power of Celtic FC behind him, in a case that was clearly at worst, not proven.

‘ If it was up to me, we’d be playing in the English League’ – Davie Hay we have the maniacal Rainjurz, their allies, and now Sevco’s inability, to play within the same rules as everyone else ( see disciplinary record ) Fully backed, by a rabid but compliant SMSM, with ad hoc random help from the SFA is a much bigger threat to the gap Celtic have established since the death of the original club which in law, couldn’t no matter how hard it tried seperate itself from its corporate identity.

No matter how much their supporters which in the main is societal Scotland, kick and squeal, its the new club facing bigger problems that fraudulent Rainjurz often overcame, and until they realise this then the gap will always be cavernous.

Usual tactics is to do nothing , don’t respond to their ribald doggerel ( Catholic Observer 1930s), which makes them even angrier – cycle repeats ad nauseam

However , the Club need to push on with disciplinary reform – seems to me that a non-Scottish panel should be the first step in getting control away from SFA and then move on to the refs , problem of celebrating in front of opposition fans , really , simple answer don’t have any Huns in our ground

We have a great chance to win so much more with what is a young squad that will only get better.

We have about 10 fringe players out of contract at end of season and we have money in the bank to sign up a few first team players to ramp up the quality and push further ahead all within budget.

For the record pyro is not the biggest issue it is the pseudo militaristic uniforms and their very variable political pronouncements that give me the most cause for concern — please no more about Mr South.
