Scott Brown defence, pyro problems, the joy of Ryan Christie

265

Scott Brown was assaulted at Ibrox on Sunday and was relentlessly taunted for a family bereavement.  His trademark celebration was understated but marked the treatment he received.  He has been cited by the SFA for “not acting in the best interests of Association Football.”  There is plenty of precedent for Celtic’s legal team to call in his defence.

I have stood within two yards of Celtic fans throwing pyrotechnics onto the field of play.  I have also been in a stairwell, exiting a game with thousands of other packed Celtic fans, when a device went off to the delight of a handful, causing panic to hundreds of others.

If you think appealing to a desire not to damage the reputation of Celtic fans will stop those throwing pyrotechnics, you are wrong.  The reputation of Celtic fans is inconsequential to anyone who throws an item at a player or onto the field.  This is their chance to set their own rules, their personal reputation remains just fine.  If you think they are going to stop because Neil Lennon tells them to, you are deluded.

This will result in blanket video surveillance, a handful of prosecutions, and then we will get back to normal, when Celtic fans’ reputation was the envy of world football.

How much have we missed Ryan Christie?  It is not just what he personally brings, it is having him, Callum McGregor and James Forrest on the field at the same time allows us to move the ball at a pace that is not possible without them.

“THE Scottish Football Association says it will not take part in an independent review examining the response of Hampden chiefs to Rangers’ use of Employee Benefit Trusts.

The governing body has written to member clubs to advise them it has turned down a request from the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) to lead an inquiry into the handling of the Rangers ‘oldco’s unsuccessful tax avoidance scheme.”

    The National, Sep 2017.

Their case has all the foundations of a house of cards.

All he did was expose the wrongdoings of the US governments .

All the Wikileaks stuff has been true.

The displays on Celtic Park take place by professionals who abide by safety distances.

I’m struggling to understand how any mature adult can defend the use of pyros in a crowded football stand.

    An Dun,

They do not state they are an authority, or claim to be an authority, Nor do you know if they have any qualified pyro technicians within their membership. If they do then according to that qualification they do have the right to make the assessment.

Again an opinion made in ignorance.

  5. Before the GB the atmosphere was awful and getting worse.

Personally I would have standing -singing sections on all 4 sides of the ground.

    Get Paradise really rocking.

  6. CANAMALAR IT LOOKS LIKE OCD OBSESSION

No qualified pyro technician would stand over the uncontrolled use of pyros with no account whatsoever given to safety distances.

But if they do have these technicians then put them forward and let them tell us how a smoke bomb going off within feet of someone has no health or safety implications.

    An Dun,

Anyone can take a course and become a qualified pyrotechnic technician, there are plenty of courses.

    Timaloy29,

You have obviously not been paying attention the corrupt empire murders the leaders of sovereign nations, what makes you think Assange is any safer?

    ____

Assange is a well known public figure. The minute he steps out of the embassy he will be arrested and the images will be broadcast across the world. If something happened to him in UK/US custody there would be no excuses.

I don’t believe the US empire has any issue with murdering political opponents. Think about how many of the “Black Lives Matter” organizers from the Ferguson protests have died suspiciously. Young and healthy people.

I just think everything around Assange is too public. It’s for pragmatic reasons.

    They are amoral.

  9. It would be remiss if me not applaud the GB for the many good acts they’ve done for Celtic. From solidarity with Palestine, world famous displays and charity drives that have made a real difference to people’s lives.

But if they reserve the right to endanger fellow supporters with their pyros (as their statement alludes to) then we need to stop them.

    An Dun,

Not all smoke bombs are not incendiary devices which is why certain grades can be hand held.

However, I event there will be no convincing you when you are on a mission to vilify the GB.

    Do a little research.

Quite a few saying the atmosphere pre-green brigade was dead…why was that?…too much emphasis on displays and atmosphere…even if there was complete silence, I would still go to games…I go for the football…

However, I am old enough to realise not everyone is like me… :-)

Why is it so hard for you to understand that some supporters don’t want smoke blown into their faces ? Do a little growing up.

  13. Alasdair MacLean on

I think Celtic dodged a bullet the other night.

St Mirren were down 2 goals and had used all their subs.

If they had said their goalkeeper couldn’t continue because his hearing / eardrum had been affected by the bang, and they had to take him off, what would have been the outcome?

A more cynical manager would / could have used that option.

  14. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    An Dun,

If you had been paying attention you would have known I stated I want all pyros banned, not just the uncontrolled, do l little paying attention.

  15. CANAMALAR IT LOOKS LIKE OCD OBSESSION

Pyros in football stands are already banned and that seems to make no difference to the ultra superdooper Celtic fans that reserve the right to use them.

Agree 100% my friend. I too am roughly from the same era as your good self, and remember the “good ole days” when the team got the crowd going and vice versa. Like society today, the GB is only a shalllow venneer, with no real depth whatsoever.

Re Broony. I will be seriously hacked off if the club do not make a major stance against all the nonsense Broony had to endure on Sunday.Maybe if the club do nothing, then we, the support should try a petition signed by all supporters clubs etc , send it to Peter with some sort of veiled threat of a financial nature, surely that may ruffle the feathers of our money men. One thing for sure is we cannot allow our players to be subjected to that crap when only winning a game of football against that scum, surely not.

Italy tends to think that Health and Safety is something for wimps and the nanny state . Some mad mental Ultras are fond of throwing explosive devices at each other( and anybody who just happens to be there ) . That results in people being injured by explosive devices outside and inside the stadium . Some pour souls have lost their sight / their hearing / lots of their skin/ a foot/ a limb etc in consequence . Sometimes the perpetrators are caught and punished but often they are not . There are many reasons why attendance at italian football has declined – one of them is the reluctance to put yourself at risk of being seriously injured
