Scott Brown extends influence on until 2021

88

The worst kept secret at Celtic Park last night was that captain Scott Brown would sign a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2021 – potentially ‘Here for 10-in-a-row’.  Scott is already one of the most successful Celtic players of all time.  He became the third captain to lead the team to the treble and the first Scottish club captain to retain a treble.

His contribution going forward will be less than that which has already past, but his influence on discipline among the squad, at and beyond training, should not be underestimated.  He is a leader and a winner, and will ensure standards do not slip.

I know the day is getting on, but work is still going on.

  1. Good evening CQN from a still freezing Garngad

Broonie here for 10IAR makes sense to me.

I would also give him some sort of coaching role at the club.

  2. I have just had a look at the Valencia CF website for tickets. When you click on Entradas, it lists upcoming games for which you can buy tickets online. There is no link for our game. If anyone has bought them, where are they buying them from?

I live an hour south of Valencia and was thinking just to drive up on the day and see if I can get tickets outside the ground if there is no joy via the web.

I have never gone there for a game so no idea if it is easy/hard to get in on the day. Wouldn’t think we’d be a massive draw for them . . . but who knows?

  3. Delighted Brooney is staying but guessing that was finalised last week, the fact they held up the announcement till today suggests to me we are going to be disappointed re a right back.

  4. some one posted last week, Broonie was going to sign an extension on Deadline Day, i thought it was a joke…..

  5. Brilliant that Scott Brown has signed a new deal. Apart from the fact that I’d love us to sign a couple of quality defenders (same case for the previous two windows) I’d also like Lustig here for another couple of years. We’ve a very young squad and having those two around would help. They may be getting on a bit but can still contribute, especially if we ain’t going to splash the cash.

  6. When even tnr great bloke who is Corkie is cynical…. you know the heated driveway is overheating.

Great news. Will be invaluable on and off the park. Like a new signing. In fact why not just call it our new signing!

  8. Ice Hockey has a full time guy who looks after the Stanley cup.At the final game of the season tv always shows you pictures of him polishing the cup furiously before taking it on the ice to present to thats seasons champions.

Players of winning team are given one day with trophy so the guy travels with cup as players usually take the cup to show to their home town.

It’s a great tradition in honoring the place the player came from.

This morning i have visions of a wee wummin polishing our glorious balance sheet in readiness to present it in the boardroom as the transfer window slams shut.

In the coming weeks she will have the privilege of taking the balance sheet trophy to various millionaires mansions so they can admire the fruits of their labour for a magical day.

Delighted Broonie is staying but …

    Actually, no buts, just delighted.

    Sevco win the title?

They are 13-6-4 after 23 games.

To get ahead of us they need to go 13-1-1 in their last 15 games.

    Which include

    Celtic x 2

    Kilmarnock

    Aberdeen x 2

    Hearts x 2

    Me neither.

  11. not sure why this blog doesn’t state the facts when it comes to Celtics signing policy. Its an absolute shambles when it comes to defensive quality!

We sign randomly with what appears to be no prioritized plan. BR is clearly frustrated – why doesn’t this filter through the editors of the blog?

The lad castagne is cheap in todays market – fits the bill in terms of youth, speed, defensive and attacking qualities. We need him now and can afford him now – this seriously frustrates me.

We will never be the team we should be – we have a great manager and we are not supporting him. we will NEVER know where he can take the team in Europe.

As it stands , we might!! win the league assuming we avoid injuries to defenders (unlikely) but we will get torn apart in Europe – to ensure Lawell and shareholders get their payout.

disgrace and robbery in so many ways. stop sugar coating and try a taste of ambition!!!

  12. Paul 67 et al,

Even the dogs in the street knew our captain was staying.

As much as I like Broonie this official announcement is underwhelming on the last day of the transfer window.

This is not just an ordinary squirrel, it’s a Malabar Giant Squirrel.

  13. we have to many players brought in ( by someone) who are not good enough and we cant off load them.

that is one reason we will not be spending.

most of the team were here when brendan arrived i am afraid he (or someone) has bought some poor players.

    imo.

  14. Very cold here in Connecticut due to polar vortex.

Not many people out and about.

Looking out the windae there’s not a squirrel in sight.

Seems they all headed across the Atlantic to Parkhead.

  15. deadline day

    (2) Sevco FC do not ‘buy’ or ‘sign’ players. They ‘swoop’ for players. The extraordinary nature of these swoops must be emphasised at all times by preceding the word “swoop” with at least one of the following choices – ‘sensational’ ‘stunning’ ‘exciting’ ‘audacious’ or ‘ambitious’.

    (3) Celtic FC do not ‘buy’ or ‘sign’ players they ‘finally complete’ deals. The hugely dull nature of this event should be emphasised at all times by using at least one of the following terms – ‘protracted’ ‘long-running’ ‘drawn out affair’ and ‘dicking about’

  16. Rock Tree Bhoy on

I agree with all the angry posters complaining about not enough new signings, we should just go out and get them, target a few international right backs / centre halves, then just grab them off the street / training ground / whatever, bundle them into the back of a van and horse them off to Celtic Park – regardless of whether they want to play for us or not. Lock them up until match day and then just make them play, come on Celtic you’ve got all the money now just show a wee bit of initiative and get it done.

Could it be our transfer strategy has lumbered us with to many players?

Does it lack foresight and rational execution?

If so is it the fault of one individual or to many unqualified people with with input?

No matter where the blame lies we seem unable or unwilling to recognize this as it’s been ongoing over many seasons.

  19. ROCK TREE BHOY – thats a great approach.

or what we can do is sit down an look at where we leak most of our goals. loss of possession on the right and failure to stop crosses from the right. This is where most of our disasters are coming from.

Then identify a fix a year ago and put a plan in place to fix it. Here we are at the death of a transfer window trying to solve our most serious flaw. aint right my friend

  20. As expected Scott Brown has decided to stay home and why take yourself and family to far off Australia when you are earning good money and playing with a great football. club with a coaching job to follow retitrement.

Good result last night and things are moving along nicely despite the Arctic conditions after the sojourn in the Dubai sunshine. Jozo by all reports played well last night hopefully he keeps free of injury . I seem to remember Broony had a lot of injury problems in his early years at the club and i think the American medics , I stand to be corrected on that, got him right to become recognised now as one of Celtic’s royalty.
