Scott Brown, Great Scottish Runner

875

You seldom hear football people speak as unguardedly as Peter Grant did to The Herald yesterday about Scott Brown.  “If somebody had offered us £4m (in 2010)?  I would have driven him down the road myself”.  The tone of Peter’s piece was supportive, though.  Our former assistant manager affirms Scott is a vastly improved performer since.  I agree.

You never really know what is going on inside a squad.  Footballers play with injuries, many find the distractions of wealth all-consuming and some are simply deployed incorrectly.  At the #19 game last week I recalled the form of Stiliyan Petrov under John Barnes, he was lost, especially when playing right back.  Bobby Petta also looked out of sorts under Barnes but within weeks of playing for Martin O’Neill both were among the most valuable assets at the club.

Neil Lennon told us last week that Scott Brown was unfit during last season’s Champions League campaign.  It’s clear that he is an incredibly more effective player when fit, but Peter Grant suggests Brown has also learned positional discipline, a subject he has previously been criticised here for.

A lot of Scott’s contribution is off the ball.  He closes space, filling the park with a presence, which is defensively important, especially on Champions League duty.  I’ve never seen Celtic’s yardage stats on players but you have to think he’ll top the list most weeks, he is the Great Scottish Runner, but all that energy needed to be harnessed correctly, which is perhaps what Scott is learning from former midfielder, Neil Lennon.

The next achievement to look out for from Scott is a marquee performance on a European stage………

Which leads us onto the Great Scottish Run.  You can still sign up for the run, and if you’ve registered already, or are still to register, you can participate in the 1254125 campaign.

The heart and soul of our community is something we cannot take for granted.  It has flourished because you, and countless thousands before you, have decided to improve the lives of those around you by getting involved in the name of Celtic.

On Sunday 6 October there is a 10k and Half Marathon.  If that is beyond you. There are family events taking place the day before.

The first thing you need to do is sign up for the Great Scottish Run, or here for one of the family events.

Once you’ve done that, you can register for the 1254125 campaign here.

Then you can create a donations page here.  Click Start Fundraising, search for Celtic Charity, setup your My Donate account).

I do not know Canamalar, nor do I agree with a lot he posts, BUT, he has put forward a very reasonable challenge for us Celtic fans and shareholders, to force a challenge on the SFA, whom I dislike more than any concerns I may have for supporting an individual who’s views I do not always agree with.

credit to Canamalar for giving us this chance to challenge.

Another thought to get the 100, those who travel on supporters buses, print of some blank copies, ask on your bus for shareholders, and then request they sign up, once given reason behind resolution, not many would say no.

Pass to Morrisey 23rd when you get to ground ?

Any number of shares is sufficient. Celtic will take the average of our shares.

I think Ordinary shares are unable to vote.

Morrissey, that is nonsense. Please stop giving out advise when you really don’t know what you are not talking about.

Doc is supporting Oscar and McKenzie, if you have more than £100 worth of shares then you can support Canamalar’s proposal. If you bought them when Fergus sold them then you will certainly have enough.

I had the chance to hear Peter Lawwell say recently that the custodians of the club are there to be challenged and it is right that we do.

This is not a personalty poll of Canamalar. Nor is it Anti-Celtic board.

So purchasing 100 ordinary shares would make someone eligible to vote ? I’m at work tomorrow but I take it the deal can be concluded over the phone with a credit card ?

I support it as the only means of letting the SFA know that they are accountable to clubs shareholding supporters.

It will be a very different story when they are back challenging us to win the league, and don’t kid yourself’s, they will be back soon enough.

I was told this by somebody from The Celtic Trust while Aulheid stood beside me. However I have Ordinary shares and I have been able to vote at Celtic AGM’s.

Notice I used the word ‘think’ and suggested asking a broker.

It was only an hour ago you told me what I was thinking. A great skill.

  21. you can’t clean rust

The point of the proposal is that it takes it out of the boards hands.

They will have to act if the proposal comes from the shareholders, there will be no comeback to the board, they are and will be in the clear re any consequences.

That is the point, it’s not anti board.

A wee story before vespers. A friend of mine took a couple of bookies for a right few bob at Hamilton a few years ago. They asked him to come back the next day for his money. He told them that they were not leaving till they paid up in full. Half hour later he left with 32k in his big baggy shorts that had 10 pockets in them.

From the Celtic trust site ( http://www.celtictrust.net/?func=d_home_article&id=426)

“As some of you will know, in order to get a resolution on to the Celtic PLC AGM Agenda, it is necessary to get our resolutions and supporting statements signed by 100 holders of ordinary shares. There are some other requirements in terms of the size of the shareholding but we generally meet this without any difficulty.”

What are the requirements in terms of size of shareholding?

It’s amazing some of the things you get signed up for, the amount of spam I get, over 500 per day and I got to trawl through the lot to make sure I don’t miss a signed resolution before deleting.

Good of you to go trawling to find examples that appear to back up your personal issues, yer argument is purely personal that’s clear so why even attempt to hide it ?

  29. Morrissey the 23rd on

    you can’t clean rust! @ 23:16

See my post @ 23:01 for a simple explanation.

The Celtic Trust advised me that Celtic will reject some of the signed resolutions. Perhaps registered at the wrong address for example. So we should aim for 10% more than 100 names with an average of £100 worth of shares.

Auldheid. Help! You heard this too.

  30. Twardzic is 33/1 to score first tomorrow night. This is on bet 365.

Virgil van Dyke is 40/1 to score first..

    Go figure.

Sammi is a very attractive 11-1.

  31. You can’t clean rust,

My understanding is that a100 shareholders are needed with an average holding of £100 each.

Those with bigger holdings will more than cover those who only have a few.

    Ergo… No problem.

Good Night. Funeral in the morning.
