Scott Brown not the only one worried about manager

1266

Scott Brown was not the only one was briefly worried about Neil Lennon’s position in recent months.  Neil has never particularly hidden his desire to work in England one day but when it became evident that there would be a few seats available in the English top flight, with the Everton job in particular becoming available, I am sure there were a few nervous twitches.

As and when Neil decides he is going to move on, Celtic will want to have a plan for succession in place, if not entirely executed.  In May, when Neil was fielding questions about moving on, I doubt any succession planning had taken place.  Some at the club would have been looking forward to a summer break and some player trading.  The prospect of finding a new manager, with all the inherent consequences for trading, preseason planning and Champions League qualification, would have caused mild panic.

Always be prepared.

How is your 1254125 work coming along?  Not started yet?  Today, Tom Conniffe completes his 125 mile walk along the Leeds-Liverpool canal.  Go look and see how well his fundraising has gone (and get involved if you can).

Not to worry things even themselves out as on a visit to Cork I was stiffed into believing that the Friars Walk Tavern was meant to be a right good Cellic pub.So one Saturday afternoon after leaving the wife to wander about the gin palaces of Oliver Plunkett street I headed up the hill to take in a Celtic v Hibs games in the said Tavern only to find that this right good Cellic pub had the timmaloys huddled roon a wee computer screen in the corner while Chelsea Man U and Liverpool had pride of place on their big screens

Even walking into a pub in Macroom the following Saturday, seeing that Chelsea were on the telly I asked them to change it over to the Celtic game which was also being televised at the same time only to be told that fholk were more interested in the Chelsea game

  7. I think at this stage time for the Vic saga to end and us to spend a few quid.

The Sevco bus is under lock and key and will be unveiled next week Timmy at the first glamour game of the season.Away to Brora…hahahahaha

  9. Mick1888, i have experienced the same, the EPL seems to get priority but there are many popular haunts in ireland you have to look for them. Celtic might be many peoples second team but only take a back seat. My local pub in dublin wont show our games as they feel the stereotypical celtic fan is an inner city dub, i see their point but thats the way it is. Its a complex country when it comes to symbols etc. Hope you got to Kinsale a nice spot.

    You know!

    You’re right!

Same thing happened to me in Macroom.

Not the Hibs game it was.

They are more interested in Chelsea there than Celtic!

To most Irish Celtic supporters Celtic is a hobby after their first EPL team.

Its the same w/the Macroom Kid.

  11. Mick1888, a one of your peers in Ireland told me when i first moved over there if paddy can clean ya paddy will clean ya, hope that makes sense.

  17. There’s a man with an “interesting” background; who if we hadn’t sold the family silver with mcgeady, boruc etc and gambled and won with our new squad would have had to put his hand in his pocket. He just want celtic in the EPL so he makes a killing, have no time for a member of the irish upper class. The average fan has put in more to the club relative to this man.

  20. I have come across this aswell TinyTim, it is a myth that the irish are celtic mad, in fact many look down on celtic and their fans in particular the media. The Irish have a problem with their flag as they are never comfortable flying it in their own country as it conjures up republicanism, the fans fly it abroad as its all about the craic when they are away. We embrace the flag for our heritage and they don’t like that. Too many in upper society bankers, politicians, property developers took over from the British, so this fought the english/british for 800 years is fine but the truth is they fcuk ed it up in less than 100, that says it all in my book. Its a basket case of a country

    Morning tiny tim

Been getting a wee bit boring on here the last few weeks so thought I would come in do my usual wind ups and lob a few grenades for a bit of fun

Anyway season ticket renewed again against my better judgement but a fool and their money are soon parted as the old saying goes

Look forward to meeting you again somewhere next season

And remember to wrap up well

  22. Mick1888, you certainly lobbed a few grenades right enough!!! Most folk on here are good souls in my book. Doesn’t mean we all agree you sound like a smart individual im sure you get that.

Saturday the 10th of August should tell a tale then.

    Celtic V Liverpool in Dublin.

I know for a fact which team will have the biggest support in the stadium, and it won’t be Liverpool.

It is a fact though that more than a few Irish folk are obsessed with that EPL,sad and pathetic to see grown ups behave in such a hysterical way.

No dis-respect intended but some of them behave in a fanatical way in regards to EPL teams, similar to the MUFC fans you see on television when they tour China.

Even Gaelic sports are suffering badly in Ireland these days.

Television,Sky in particular has a lot to do with it.

    Nutcases some folk are.

  24. 16 Roads, its funny how anti english football team they are but most would want to spill blood for their epl club. I used to get slagged off by liverpool fans i just ask them why they dont support an irish club, that shuts them up.

  25. Poor old craig when are we going to name a stand in his honour? After Brother Walfrid & Big Jock who has done more i want youze to name names !!!!

  26. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

Paolosboots – If it wasn’t for Celtic,i wouldn’t have any interest whatsoever in football these days.

The sport has been ruined by money.

  27. 16roads, i’d be the same, would have to go back to watching Leitrim & Derry and both are shoite at the moment.

  28. mickbhoy1888 on

    16 Roads

Celtic will have the biggest support in the stadium due to the fact it will be made up by a large travelling support from Glasgow I suspect that the majority of the Liverpool support will come from locals.

Walkabout Dublin airport any Saturday morning when both Celtic and Man U are playing at home and come back and tell me what support has the highest representation.

Celtic may have a lot of sympathisers in Ireland but they are massively outnumbered by supporters of EPL clubs

I have a nephew in Blackrock who although having a Celtic supporting father and uncle who tried to bring him up right would rather watch Man U on tv than accept a free trip to paradise

  29. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

Paolosboots – The Antrim hurling team are not so great these days either.

    Ah well such is life.

Goodnight & good luck to all Celtic supporters.

  30. Family in Blackrock Mickbhoy1888, i now have to question your socialist leanings….. probably the prime address in Atha Cliath, some nice gaffs as they say in my part of Dublin. Pick up the Evening Herald and we are well represented by supporters clubs all over the country , most EPL supporters are in Dublin. If more people went to local soccer then the clubs would be better represented in Europe. I support St Pats but live beside Bohs & Shels. My mate supports pats so thats my story.

  31. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

Mickbhoy – I don’t mate.Maybe MUFC,but fans actually travelling to games – Celtic would always have by far the most.

I can’t speak for anywhere else but there will be big numbers of Celts travelling down to the Dublin game from Belfast, and i am sure there will be thousands from all over the six counties.

Dublin isn’t Ireland, there would be a lot more Celtic supporters at the ports of Larne and Belfast going over than MUFC fans at Dublin airport.

    Def away now.
