Scott Brown, party plans pooped

341

Footballers typically hit their testimonial year well after their peak, but this is arguably Scott Brown’s best season of his 11 in a Celtic jersey.  His Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards, which he received last night, were a formality.  We all knew the captain would collect both prizes.

The first thing Brendan Rodgers did when he met the media on his appointment was to cite Scott as the most important player at the club.  Brendan knew what he could get out of the captain and understood the importance of setting his expectations out early.

Scott will be 33 in June.  One day we will discuss succession, but with his form and fitness at their best ever, that time could be a several years away.

Party plans were pooped on Saturday but at least Newco won yesterday, doing us a favour by ensuring that we can take the title by our own actions on Sunday, and not potentially while watching Aberdeen and Hearts on Friday night.

Normally I would tell you that the cup final is far more important than Sunday’s league game, but I want to win the league this weekend.  A lot.

No more mistakes, Celtic.

  1. FFS, can’t believe I now have to share my birthday with a Royal.

It was bad enough having to share it with Billy Shooglyaxe and Roy ‘Penny Arcade’ Orbison.

He has no internet and is really bored – food not great either!

Told him we are all rooting for him and he sends his regards to all on CQN.

Time will tell whether Maxwell is a good appointment or more of the same. The fact that McRae has welcomed the appointment makes me a little cautious. Then again , ‘anyone but Celtic’ McRae is a forked tongued creature.

The man has spent all his life in Scottish Fitba’. If he doesn’t have any opinions or preconceived ideas about how the game has been run up here in that time, then he must be an airhead. I doubt he’s that, because Thistle seem to be a reasonably well run club, operating without the benefit of payday loans, as happens elsewhere.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

Maxwell will have the experience of how the game was run , that does not mean he wants it to continue in the same way.

Someone from outside will have no idea of the culture or past of our game and in order to change it experience of what has taken place and the environment that allowed it will be essential.

Kate and Wills made a bit of a backside of naming their first child George didn’t they? It would be more apt for this one.

No, what you actually said was “the last 3 City games have shown them tae be a 45 minute side. . . ”You then specify those 3 particular matches in that one week.

*your response read to me as being a wee bit condescending, what I was pointing out was this was their 3 biggest games of the season and they choked.

That read to me at the time as you having had your doubts about their ability to keep their often scintillating football up for a whole game before their bad week, with those 3 games confirming your view.

*Don’t forget last season when the EMSM was gushing about them as they were not just winning but scoring goals for fun, then they met us, started dropping points and won eff all, it was then said that Pep’s jaiket was on a shoogly peg. God forbid that it happened again and the dreaded manure would take the title, luckily they met the inconsistent Spurs and ground out a victory with WBA handing them the title the following day.

As I said I’ve always liked Man City even though some Celtic supporters look disparagingly on them but I don’t think Pep is the man to take them forward even with all the money they have, a bit like QSG with Emery, dear God the sad sack Arse who dumped 2 strikers in January may win the Europa this season.

In the 60s/70s they had a wonderful manager that revered the Big Mhan. After winning the FA Cup the day of the George Connelly Final they embarked on a NA Tour, on arriving at the old Malton airport in Toronto, Joe Mercer on being congratulated on their cup win replied ‘thank God it wasn’t Celtic and their wonderful manager Jock Stein we were playing or we wouldn’t have won it”, or words to that effect. The 2 Toronto dailies carried that, bet the Scottish ones didnae. BTW that same City side won the old ECWC the following season, Arse won the old Fairs City Cup while we threw the Big Cup away in Milan.

Anyway a bit off topic but I still think that as good as they are they’ve still got a bit to go to be up there with two of his old sides and the dreaded Real Madrid.

  12. Tell you what, this Sunday’s game against you know who, after Saturdays disappointment, and performance from Celtic, the old saying don’t count your chickens ,for me the team have slipped up a few times this season,be it the wrong players,or the tactics, were wrong,I will go with the both, when the league should have been wrapped up long ago,I know we had a lot of injuries, but our squad should have been good enough to win these 3 or games we have lost or drawn,me personally I wish Brendan would change the system at times,

You have just described Regan , although he was quick to assimilate to the culture and past of our game.

It will be a very pleasant and long overdue surprise if Maxwell makes it his mission to reverse the damage done by our culture and past, and bring us into the 21st Century. A kick up the compliance officer’s arse would be a good start.

  16. POG that priest is mental, I would love to have a day out wi him when we skelp the Huns on Sunday. In fact I’m gonnae do a few of his moves this Sunday myself.

Seriously if priests were like that here the chapels would be full. IMO.

Not wanting to upset anyone as i say my opinion.
