Scott Brown, party plans pooped

341

Footballers typically hit their testimonial year well after their peak, but this is arguably Scott Brown’s best season of his 11 in a Celtic jersey.  His Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards, which he received last night, were a formality.  We all knew the captain would collect both prizes.

The first thing Brendan Rodgers did when he met the media on his appointment was to cite Scott as the most important player at the club.  Brendan knew what he could get out of the captain and understood the importance of setting his expectations out early.

Scott will be 33 in June.  One day we will discuss succession, but with his form and fitness at their best ever, that time could be a several years away.

Party plans were pooped on Saturday but at least Newco won yesterday, doing us a favour by ensuring that we can take the title by our own actions on Sunday, and not potentially while watching Aberdeen and Hearts on Friday night.

Normally I would tell you that the cup final is far more important than Sunday’s league game, but I want to win the league this weekend.  A lot.

No more mistakes, Celtic.

Someone from outside will have no idea of the culture or past of our game

You have just described Regan , although he was quick to assimilate to the culture and past of our game.

It will be a very pleasant and long overdue surprise if Maxwell makes it his mission to reverse the damage done by our culture and past, and bring us into the 21st Century. A kick up the compliance officer’s arse would be a good start.

How he handles the Comp Off report if it confirms licence was incorrectly granted will be interesting based on similar cases of Sion and Irtysh in 2017

I suppose if Kenny Miller can have the type of season he’s had, Scott Brown can aim to emulate him!!

Thanks for your post regarding my grandad Delaney’s great friend Father John Mone. I will pass on your info to my mum, who loved him during his time at Saint Ninian’s Knightswood. My mum thought he became Bishop of Motherwell. Will let her know it was Paisley. Good to be back working thanks. Know how you must have felt in Lisbon last May now.

    YNWA was amazing that service.

    Many happy returns.

Up until recently, the only famous folk I shared my birhday with were Pancho Villa and John Maynard Keynes. Delighted now that future Celtic legend Kieran Tierney was born on 5th June too.

It did thanks. The day flew in, rather than dragged in, like unemployed days do.

Thank you. My greatest Celtic 11 seen started with 4 players. Jinky, Danny, Henrik and Artur. Difficult picking the other 7 without Lisbon Lions.

If things go well on Sunday, will the huns be kept in for 10 minutes after the game by the polis?

Interesting. If I were in Maxwell’s shoes , the obvious thing to do would be to acquaint oneself with how these clubs and their respective associations handled their situations and the resulting fallout.

However he handles it ,I’m sure it won’t be the Regan ‘head in the sand’ approach.

There won’t be any huns left in the stadium at the end of the game!

So glad that your first day went well mate, it can be nerve wracking starting a new job.

I caught your post last night about your Granda. Did he make it to parkhead on occasion?

When I was an apprentice in Barr & Strouds one of the blokes that taught me turning was an Albert Young, he commentated for the blind at the games, a true gentleman that was also an agent for the Celtic Pools.

I remember Father Mone from his St Ninians days, never really knew him because we went to St Benedict’s, but I was confirmed at St Ninians, and the slap Archbishop Scanlan gave me was so sore it made me greet.

I am sure it was Fr Mone who told me he didn’t really mean it. :)

My maw and older sisters always spoke very highly of him.
