Scott Brown sat down

1251

You know what Dundee United really need?  Scott Brown to turn up at Hampden on Sunday with a point to prove. We’ve complained for years about the way media scrutiny falls haphazardly on Celtic but God help us if we ever acquire the cosy relationship others cultivate in order to avoid the light scrutiny required to keep them healthy.

Celtic players are allowed to drink before their day off (as is the manager).  Scott didn’t punch anyone, didn’t threaten anyone, didn’t drive under the influence, didn’t speak inappropriately and didn’t break club rules.

Had he not sat down this would never have been a story, even if he’d had an additional 10 drinks.  ‘Scott Brown sat down’ is the story – and that’s the worst they can come up with.  Paying someone £100 for a photograph and spending 30 minutes writing about it has to be the cheapest cover in publishing history.  It doesn’t pass the ‘news’ test, it is celebrity gossip.

Pin it to the dressing room wall and he’ll be Man of the Match on Sunday, you can bank on it.

CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner is tonight!  Soooooooo excited.  See you there.

Let he who hath not sat down after having had too much to drink cast the first stone.

  8. Judging by the aggressive nature of the conversation on here, I assume everyone is blootered. If you are sitting down this afternoon, try sitting on your hands, spare us the fighting about whether this is a true story or not (it’s highly, highly probable that it is, and we fool ourselves to think otherwise).

It’s Scott Brown, probably the most supernaturally fit footballer most of us have seen in the flesh. So, for that reason alone, it’s not likely to be a big deal. Brown is a role model for people who like football, I mean playing not supporting, and 99% of the time he is an excellent role model.

On the other hand, it sets a bad example to his team-mates, many of whom will be slightly in awe of him, his fitness and application. It could be seen to undermine his manager as well. So, it’s not nothing, just because I’m not bothered about it, there may be some at the club who are.

My problem with this is the purpose of the story. So, first of all, we have to acknowledge that when the captain of Scotlands biggest club is drunk in the capital it’s a juicy story. As appealing to a journalist as Ian blacks ankles are to our captain. And that’s all fair game… but Brown is a vulnerable man. I think many of us recognise that for all his bravery, aggression and leadership, there’s the a posture to him that belies a difficult and challenging youth.

To me, he’s a highly admirable individual, and for that reason I don’t like a rag like the Sun playing games with the man.

Has Broonie actually ever had a heid o hair since he became a Celt? Wouldn’t be surprised if that photo dates back to his Hibs days. Anyway, will not affect us, we are Celtic…Sun must try harder, we know you will…scumbags!

  11. Look – if this is a fabrication by the Sun – I will be the first to condemn and I WILL pursue them through my contacts – that is a promise.

Can you swear from that picture that Scoot Brown was drunk?

A few years ago I collapsed in a shopping centre and manged to drag myself up against a shop front.

I was pale and semi conscious but if you had taken a picture of me I could well have looked like I was drunk.

Every picture most definitely does not tell a story.

Not many people get the privilege of being the captain of Glasgow Celtic When you do you embrace it not damage it!!!

    My feelings exactly about MacNamara.

He sent his players out to kick us off the park on Sunday. For me, that puts him in the same bracket as Mullet McCall.

  16. Did he get a £300.000 pay off?

That seems to be the “going” rate.

    See what I did there?

I wondered about the hair too. His head was shaven when we played on Sunday. How did it grow so fast?

Might be an old photo of him.

  18. Philbhoy

No, I can’t, I won’t and I simply don’t need to. Some of the language on here is appalling, and swearing is banned.

I think it’s highly unlikely that the story is false, it could be but I think it’s unlikely. But, as usual, I’m utterly baffled by why you care what I think about the veracity of the story or otherwise. My comments were about the man, what he means to us, his team-mates and less specifically (for that’s only polite) about his background. I offered no condemnation, and pointed out that I couldn’t see how it would make any difference, on account of his supernatural fitness.

I support all our players, always have, even the ones who aren’t very good at football. So, if you aim to pick a fight this is the wrong one.

I’m off to find an accommodating wall to bang my head off, as usual this is a more fulfilling experience than debating on CQN.

If you read the sun paper you need help, but not as much as the people who believe their tripe, they are no friend of ours.

Before I forget Alfred Boakes , see my statement above.
