Scott Brown’s impressive body of work

271

If Scott Brown departs in the summer to join Aberdeen as Stephen Glass’ assistant manager, the body of work he will leave behind is beyond what anyone could imagine when he arrived at the club in 2007.  With 10 league titles, six Scottish Cup and six League Cup winner’s medals, his major trophy haul is greater than any Scottish club apart from Celtic and Oldco Rangers.  He is also one of the few in the modern era who could have gone to the top flight in England and chose to stay at Celtic.

He will be 36 in June and although his recent form has been as solid as ever, he no longer has the mobility to cover the ground he once did for Hibernian, Celtic and Scotland.  I will be sorry to see him go as he would be an invaluable resource to the new manager but the timing is probably right.  It would, however, be good to see him leave after raising the Scottish Cup one more time.

2020 saw us miss out on the CQN Charity Golf Open for the first year since 2005 (can’t remember why).  Ever the optimists, we have put Friday 23 July in the diary at our usual corner of Fife in the hope that by then the world will be a bit more sociable.  We will release more details as guidelines permit, but if you would like to attend, please email cqnopen@gmail.com .  Maybe see you there.

  1. We managed to inappropriately use Broonie in this of all seasons.

By letting him go and not being there to support the huge transition, we’d be again failing to make best use of his talents and experience.

Mismanaging one of the club’s most important resources so significantly, yet differently, in consecutive years is quite an achievement. And not in a good way.

M1980- John Kennedy has been well looked after by the Club, for a lot of years he was part of a failed management, and needs to leave for his own development IMO

  3. A real bug-bear of mines was letting good players (some admittedly short of their best form) go early.

Apart from Jozo, they played well enough at thier next clubs.

PC Lustig, Erik and in particular Craig Gordon, their experience and winning mentality would have served us longer.

    Same with Sinky,

they are better players than those that followed.

  4. That Charlie Nic article on here regarding Leigh Griffiths , pfff

I wonder if he will move north to Aberdeen along with Broony, to reignite their hun skelping days.

i thought Hendry looked the worst CH i’d ever seen in his few games for us. First time i have not given someone time to convince me due to him not seeming to have the basics.

In the situation we are now in, it would make sense to see if he has developed but if I was him , i’d be trying to move on.

It’s great to have The Old Firm rivalry up and running again.

Peter Lawwell and his boss must be very proud.

Very few of ours have moved on to be a success elsehwere.

I’ll give you Sviarchenko and, at a push, Hendry but Gordon is doing ok at Championship level and will be 39 if he gets back to the SPFL. Lustig was a failure in Genk. Shved had contined bad reports on his attitude and Bayo is doing ok as an impact sub at French Ligue 2 level.

We have tended to let players go at the right time, Jozo included. Our fault has been getting hte best of them when they were here

  10. After the last few years of interference when it comes to our managers backroom team. hopefully any incoming manager wont have this problem and gets to pick who his backroom team is.

Good luck Broony whatever you do.been a legend for us.

  12. What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, Celtic are closing in on the appointment of Fergal Harkin as their brand new director of football.

Sources have told the outlet that a deal to bring the Irishman to Parkhead is 90% done.

He has spent 11 years within the Manchester City recruitment team but Celtic have been trying to lure him to Glasgow over the last few months.

This comes with the club making landmark attempts to restructure and modernise their hierarchy.

Nick Hammond is currently head of football operations but he looks set to leave his post with a new director of football role being created.

Harkin is set to be followed through the door by a new chief scout and a plethora of analysts.

  14. The right time for Scott to move on to learn his trade. i will hope to see him back in the managers position in the future, If he becomes a defensive midfield anchor then he can do a good job for Aberdeen.

We have a rebuild job in the future months. i reckon we need 16/17 new squad players and our first choice 11 need 5 to go with Bain, Welsh, Taylor, Soro Turnball, Forrest. Sell or free or loan out most of this squad. Eddy, N;tcham, Julien, Ajer, Mcgregor, Christie all out Ajeti Barkas, Bayo, Rogic Griffiths as well. Hendry was loaned with a buy option and Ostende will take that.

These players are to blame for our lacklustre season. Non triers, want aways whatever. It was Training game pace, no urgency, no passion.

So does the Celtic strip shrink to fit inferior players. They were a disgrace.

  17. It is the end of an era lasting ten years. An era of nine in a row, a quadruple treble & an invincible season.

In all honesty, an era when we have had it easy on the home front. Our showing in European competition was for the most part dismal – a few highlights, but highly disappointing & sadly predictable.

This season’s surrender can have no excuses and I think the bigger the clear-out, the better. The Ibrox club have ‘skelped’ us with a workmanlike squad – a squad that performed much better than the sum of its parts…especially in Europe. Organisation, coaching, tactics & appetite were way ahead of anything we could muster. They say “good players don’t become bad players overnight”

    – our’s did, and none of us have a clue why….perhaps the reasons will be revealed over time.

Scott Brown has been a wonderful player, captain & leader for Celtic – much much more than we could have ever hoped for when we signed him. He should go now whilst he still has something to offer on the field in Scottish football – Aberdeen is the right stage, I think. I can envisage him returning to a senior role at Celtic Park in future.

  18. It does take some thought I suppose……fittin’ in them wee digs an’ falsehoods.

    From your link.

Mr Scott said that the “forceful policing in London” at the Sarah Everard vigil had caused the public to “revise their opinions” of the “seemingly light-touch policing in Glasgow”, highlighting that that some action had been taken as a result of the gathering, with 28 arrests and seven fixed penalty notices.

I think Mr Scott is at it.

I do not think the reasonably minded Scottish public required heavy handed Metropolitan Police antics towards groups of young women to lead to the conclusion that Police Scotland let the Huns away wi murder.

Old Firm rivalry is the context.

No two individuals have done more to facilitate the continuation of The Old Firm than Peter Lawwell and his boss.

  22. Now that the craft polis have been exonerated I am more convinced that sevco will get away with a slap on the wrists for last Thursday’ horror show, why, I’ll give you 5 reasons

1 their DUP PR employee who is not short of a bob or two probably doing the job for free or “for god and ulster” as they like tae proclaim

2 the UEFA delegate that witnessed it has ties tae linfield, a relationship that effed us before, there’s nae way anyone fae the black north should be involved in any games involving Scottish clubs, hopefully big gas meter will end that when he moves tae Nyon

3 the bonkle bigot will ensure the refs report is altered or he disnae get anymore games.

4 the “greatest admin officer in the game” has a role with UEFA

5 UEFA are based in calvinist Switzerland, sevco are in calvinist Scotland.
