Scott Brown’s impressive body of work

271

If Scott Brown departs in the summer to join Aberdeen as Stephen Glass’ assistant manager, the body of work he will leave behind is beyond what anyone could imagine when he arrived at the club in 2007.  With 10 league titles, six Scottish Cup and six League Cup winner’s medals, his major trophy haul is greater than any Scottish club apart from Celtic and Oldco Rangers.  He is also one of the few in the modern era who could have gone to the top flight in England and chose to stay at Celtic.

He will be 36 in June and although his recent form has been as solid as ever, he no longer has the mobility to cover the ground he once did for Hibernian, Celtic and Scotland.  I will be sorry to see him go as he would be an invaluable resource to the new manager but the timing is probably right.  It would, however, be good to see him leave after raising the Scottish Cup one more time.

2020 saw us miss out on the CQN Charity Golf Open for the first year since 2005 (can’t remember why).  Ever the optimists, we have put Friday 23 July in the diary at our usual corner of Fife in the hope that by then the world will be a bit more sociable.  We will release more details as guidelines permit, but if you would like to attend, please email cqnopen@gmail.com .  Maybe see you there.

Of course, once scotland attains independence this anti-catholic and anti-celtic violence will end. once their link with the union is broken they can stop hating catholics and celtic supporters.

    ——–

And how has being in the Union stopped it?

Look – I’m not interested in a politics debate; I certainly don’t want an argument with another Celtic fan and I have no problem with you.

But with respect, this is nothing to do with Independence / Union.

The vile thugs will be vile thugs, no matter the political map.

I think the point is that anti Irish/Catholic bigotry and sectarianism is an endogenous Scottish problem, it is not caused by the Union or by the English, as members of the cult like to suggest, and will not be resolved by Scotland leaving the Union.

As to how the issue has been affected for the good by being members of the UK, there is a school of thought that sectarianism in the workplace started to diminish as a result of Westminster equality legislation, and by a change of culture that followed Scottish companies being taken over by UK companies.

Don’t forget that the two factors that led to the huns financial collapse were control of their banking moving south of the border and the involvement of the city of London police. Would the same outcome have happened in an independent Scotland?

No two individuals have done more to facilitate the continuation of The Old Firm than Peter Lawwell and his boss.

Are you still working in London,if your back up in Scotland you can surely get a day off.

I don’t hate Golf, but there are a few of us who don’t play Golf but go for a day of pub crawling and that’s one of the reasons I go,it’s nice to meet up with friends and a day out,I’ve been at every tournement except for the first.

It would be great if you can manage to come.

An odd choice for plod to appoint to investigate their actions.

  7. EL,

I would argue that sectarian employment practice changed with legislation AND an influx of foreign Investment

with the Silicon valley USA companies, coupled with offshore that just needed qualified men regardless of religion. All this while Thatcher killed off the traditional heavy industries.

    God bless Catholic schools.

Once inside a company sectarian lines could still be envoked, in my original workplace all the storemen and maintainence men were catholic (clever guys that could work the equipement and do repairs, but the transport office was all orangemen (thick as fruck uneducated hingers on for a pension types).

We overtook them, we still are in front of them, I doubt very few of those on the streets were highly educated, holding down softwarde development jobs.

  8. Hi Bhoys

Re the outcome of the inquiry into the policing of the hoarde, if the way it was policed was so super why all the hullabaloo for every one to stay at home last Sunday and the demand for a totally different policing approach on show around Celtic Park? Also why was it reported that the Scottish government were very unhappy at the chance of virus super spreaders wandering the streets in hoardes? Surely if the government were unsatisfied with what they saw they know the policing was inadequate, made their feelings known to the police hence the different approach on Sunday. Both can’t be right surely. But if the second approach brought about the desired outcome eg no crowds on the streets (I know) then the first approach was wrong. Which we all know it was except for the guy asked to chair the inquiry.

Had they had the willpower or guts for it, Celtic could have had them dead and buried years ago. Rather, Celtic colluded in keeping them alive.

  11. Coneybhoy,

Just how many times did you actually see Henry play CH for Celtic?.The odd game, then played the odd game at RB.Not the best way to judge any player.Time needed to settle, being thrown in occasionally with different partners,is no way to judge any player.

Do you deny that the huns received special treatment from their Scottish bankers?

Do you deny that the special treatment stopped when control of the account moved to England?

As long as there are Catholics in Scotland there willl be a hatred of Catholics and Irish.

The country hasn’t moved on all that much from the days when there were more anti catholic societies in Glasgow than there was Catholics.

    Thanks for the reply Ernie.

“….I think the point is that anti Irish/Catholic bigotry and sectarianism is an endogenous Scottish problem, it is not caused by the Union or by the English, as members of the cult like to suggest, and will not be resolved by Scotland leaving the Union…”

I think that is actually similar to my own point – the vile thugs are vile thugs – whether as part of a Union or living an Independent country – it matters not a single jot.

Saying that leaving the Union will make it better isn’t true (in my opinion). Equally saying that staying in the Union affords protection also isn’t true (also in my opinion).

There is some merit in your point about the management of the now deceased club’s banking transferring to London, but I think that is more to do with poor governance that was endemic in banks – with individuals across the world in banking institutions allowed to run their own local fyfedoms unchecked – and that ended in the bank crash in 2007 in the USA that rippled to the shores of the UK. Better (if you agree that tody’s banking governance is better – maybe ‘different’ is a more appropriate word) governance was inevitable from that point. The fact that the Bank of Scotland changed ownership flushed out the Masterton shennanigans – I think any new owner would have instituted similar changes – i.e., stopped the leaking of company money – the fact that it was Llyods of London who took over the BoS was probably incidental.

I just think the “Union protects us from the excesses of the Huns / Orangement / Freemasons” argument isn’t one that completely stands up. You could posit that an independent Scotland attached to Europe would afford more protections against anti-Irish / anti-Catholic bigotry, with recourse to the EU Court of Human Rights.

Wherever we end up as a country, though – the vile hatred in the hearts of the folk who murdered that laddie would still remain.

    Best wishes to you.

Behaviour of the child who owns the ball in the park, its my rules or nothing😱😰

  19. Sad day when some idiot who racially abuses a football player is bigger news than someone being murdered.

  20. As sevco are the victim this is why the comment hold vigure over the sad, distressing killing. Other way about and one of the sad w*nkers littered across msm in Scotland would have brought up the murder.

Maybe a Polish man’s death is less important to them.

The football incident will give them (sadly) self-serving grounds to be a victim and to remain ignorant their racial hatreds of anyone who’s not a wasp.
