Scott, Dedryck, your part in a very long story

467

There was a bit of chat last week that Celtic were ‘at it’ by signing Scott Allan. Sticking it large to an aspiring Championship club. Tempting, though it is to let that notion roll, it’s simply not true. Scott was right on plan to be a Celtic signing, and as I’m sure he’ll explain at this afternoon’s press conference, Celtic is the perfect move for him.

He is a young Scottish player with talent and enough potential to become a top player. Like them all, he is a financial risk, but not a major risk, neither his transfer fee nor his wages will significantly alter the budget.

The need for reinforcements for other positions is more pressing. Midfield is not an area where we are short, but signing Scott will have no impact on the search to reinforce those other positions. He will immediately enhance the squad and force everyone else to up their game.  If you want a place in that Celtic midfield, you will need to be on the absolute top of your game.

I expect to see more deals like this. If there’s a player who the coaches reckon has potential, and he looks undervalued, Celtic will try to sign him.  We want the best players in Scotland at every age group and in every position.  We want to develop a culture of self-improvement.  This signing will ask questions not just of Scott, but there isn’t a midfield player at the club who will not consider the threat to his position this morning.

For the best part of an hour Celtic were a joy on Saturday.  Having read so much about what the player went through in recent months, he must have been pinching himself as he watched fast-flowing, incisive, football.  They were a team full of swagger and confidence.

Ronny Deila would have been animated at what happened after he made the decision to rest some legs.  Two goals were lost as a result of Dedryck Boyata twice losing concentration.  This was an alarming sign but Ronny knows Dedryck has played very little football, less than two dozen games before joining Celtic this summer.

How to deal with mistakes is one of the attributes which comes form experience, a qualify which makes it less likely your nerve will be affected, resulting in the second mistake.  I expect the big man to be back at his Qarabag form for Wednesday’s Cup Final.

Jane Maguire from the Celtic FC Foundation was in touch after receiving a £1,200, from money raised at last month’s CQN Golf Open:

“I just wanted to thank CQN so much for the wonderful donation of £1,200, as a result of your Golf Day. The spirit and compassion of the Celtic Family is unique and unsurpassed and your gesture is a perfect example of that.

“Your support is invaluable to Celtic FC Foundation as we strive to honour the founding principles of our Football Club and help those who need it most. We deliver a host of projects in our local communities for children, young people and adults around the four key themes of Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty. The CQN input will make a huge difference.”

I know we talk about the bigger aspects of the club, like this, often, but it’s incredible how deep the links the modern Celtic support have with the founding ethos of the club. It’s no idle boast to suggest we are the world’s most ethical football club.

The trajectory is also impressive. Links from practically every area of the support, and the club itself, to the Foundation, and to individual projects, like our own Mary’s Meals appeals, are more frequent and increasingly more successful. You are part of a long story. Keep it up.

    Dear Member

    Yes it is once again that time when we ask those of you who are shareholders to support the resolution we would like to put on the agenda for the Celtic AGM.!

    This year the Board of the Celtic Trust have decided to concentrate on just one resolution that of once again urging Celtic to become a Living Wage employer. Those of you who attended last year’s AGM might remember that the Chairman of the Plc sought to defuse this issue, which had caused him so many problems at the previous AGM in 2013, by announcing during the prepared video presentation, that Celtic would ‘consult’ their employees with a view to paying all of them the current Living Wage rate of £8.75 an hour. In itself this statement called into question the veracity of his assertion during the 2013 meeting when he stated that all full time staff were already in receipt of this rate.

    We did wonder why any ‘consultation’ was necessary when a pay rise was being offered and since last November we have continued to ask what progress was being made on this issue. When at last, we received the answer we were, to be frank disgusted, as it appears, as you will see from the supporting statement to the Resolution, that the Club was intent of finding a way to exclude these lowest paid employees from the bonus scheme which they were currently operating, a bonus which was paid just prior to Christmas each year. And this from a company who managed to pay its Chief Executive a bonus of almost £500,000, yes half a million pounds, last year!

    We hope that you will agree with the Trust Board, that given the origins and founding principles of our Club, this is just unacceptable and needs to be challenged. Challenging the non payment of a discretionary bonus could prove difficult but we can pursue the issue of Celtic becoming a Living Wage employer which if achieved, would at least, ensure that Celtic employees would be assured of the modest pay rises paid under this scheme.

    So please take a moment now to sign and return the attached form. To comply with the Companies Act the signature on the form has to be actual not electronic so you will need to print off the form sign it and then either scan it in and email it to me or put it in the post to The Celtic Trust PO Box 2066 Glasgow G32 2AX.

    I am told that it is also possible to email a JPEG image of the form. Please also remember that the address given must be that at which the shares are registered.

    Chose whatever method suits you best but please if you are a shareholder use one of them. If you are not but know someone who is please spread the word!

    Please don’t leave this to someone else but if you have shares do it yourself.

    Thank you

    Sincerely yours

    Marie

    Yep,as usual,in like a ferret at anything to have a snipe at Celtic.I was wondering when I saw the article how long it would take him.Cue,the other Celtic snipers agreeing with him.

    And wrong into the bargain.

  9. Looks like Boyata has joined Ambrose as a ‘bomb scare’ patsy in the eyes of many supporters.

    He will, like Efe, now be judged on his every touch of the ball. The rot has duly set in for him – can he turn it around?

    If Efe is anything to go by then the answer will be NO.

    He will join the aforementioned Efe, Charlie, Izzy, McGregor, Scepovic and Stokes as ‘dead men walking’ at our club – in the eyes of those who demand we spend money we haven’t got.

  11. I happened to catch the start of the Sportsound programme on Saturday and right at the top of the show there was a wee exchange between Richard Gordon and Alan Preston. RG reminded AP that in a previous show he had strongly hinted that Scott Allan would be not be at Hibs by the end of August but would crucially, not be plying his trade with Glasgows newest club. It is reasonable to assume therefore that anyone with insider knowledge would also be aware of this. The campaign by the SMSM was therefore nothing to do with getting SA to go to Govan but a calculated strategy to discredit both SA and Celtic which is still going strong and a great way of diverting from the new clubs lack of cash. Of course I may be giving too much credit here and apologies for the long post.

    I’m in most Fridays and see the staff with no basic understanding of service customer care and a general apathy that I know derives from the elephant in the room it rips my knitting as there are good customers and a business that could work so much better just a personal thing as I used to help similar companies in a previous role.

    WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE KIDDING MR CELTIC, IF YOU THINK THE HUNS ARE DONE? on 17TH AUGUST 2015 9:28 AM

    Dear CQN – I’m a close friend of the poster KEVJUNGLE.

    +++

    Kevin can’t come onto the blog at the minute. though he has asked me to convey a much delayed thank you for all your concerns and that, he wishes you all the best of luck especially Paul 67 for making all of this and so much more possible.

    +++

    Kevin was admitted to Monklands Hospital in January of this year for a bowel scan to test for cancer. Kevin had a lump the size of a mushroom removed at that time and, as a result he lost a lot of blood and was kept in over night.

    +++

    Kevin was released from Hospital the next day and was given assurances that, this removal was part of the norm and was told that there were no issues that would cause any concern from both the medical team at the Hospital then, also a week later from his own G.P.

    +++

    So, Kevin and his family thought nothing more than, to get on with life.

    +++

    Then – fast-forward – to late June / July this year when, a phone call to Kevin’s home which he took himself from a, Consultants secretary from the hospital with the news that there had been some sort of mix-up with the procedure and that, Kevin had to attend the hospital the next day and, the Consultant told Kevin and his wife Patricia that, the lump that was removed in January was in fact cancerous after being examined by a team of professors in Dundee.

    +++

    Another twist, this information about the removal of the mushroom sized cancerous lump had been left lying on another Consultants desk since March this year.

    +++

    Kevin was summoned to go through a series of internal examinations, scans etc with the heavily weighted fear that the invader had spread to Kevin’s lungs and liver.

    +++

    Fortunately, Kevin doesn’t drink or smoke and is in good general health, the Consultant told the family that this has been crucial.

    +++

    Kevin will be kept under watch whilst the invader is in remission. He will be called for regular check ups to ensure prompt treatment should the invader return.

    +++

    Kevin has pointed out to me that, a lot of Celtic fans on here might be inclined to offer prayers but, he has asked that if you do pray, please direct these to his wonderful wife Patricia and, his equally wonderful son, Dominic whom he calls – “The two children of God in my life.”

    +++

    Thank you CQN.

    Really?

    Utter nonsense on here sometimes. Anyone who knows Elephants knows that Elephants are never called Linda, and for very good reason.
