Scottish Cup has historic importance this season

458

After three weeks catching sunrays and getting some recuperation in, Celtic are back in action tomorrow, in the Scottish Cup against Brechin City. The Angus club are enduring a torrid season, bottom of the Championship with four points from 21 games, so I would not expect them to venture too far from their only penalty area tomorrow.

While Brendan Rodgers will take the game seriously, in the bigger picture, it offers a good opportunity to get the legs stretched before the challenges over the next four weeks in the League and Europa League.

With the League Cup already secured and a commanding grip put on the seventh successive league title, Celtic are five cup ties away from an unprecedented second consecutive treble. There will be more financially rewarding games ahead, but our Scottish Cup ties have an historic importance.

  1. Gents,

Many thanks. It seems that even articles written by the Celtic blog etc get their raw information from the MSM then put their own spin on it. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I have seen a few “ exclusives “ on here and I would think that is possibly attributable to Paul 67 having his ear to the ground at Parkhead. This is exactly why this blog was created of course.

Generally However it does seem that we get most of our “information “ from the MSM then either agree or trash it. Even social media seems to do likewise.

I guess it really boils down to individual choice and an open mind what to believe.

    Thanks again an HH.

    Greenpinata,

I’m not sure of your logic here, the MSM have had a campaign to protect sevco and ensure bad news is censored, we have witnessed in the past their willingness to support sevco attempts to tap up players and this is just another example of the same agenda being perpetrated. So an open mind would weigh up past and current agenda and ask has anything changed. I suppose there needs to be a level of intelligence that does not need to make convoluted mental trapeze acts to excuse the obvious claim an open mind sees it differently, a bit like the same club never, iquidated I suppose.

  15. A wee bit of info on the latest player to be linked with us (Serbian press and player’s agent) from Richard Wilson (not the bbc dave King correspondent one)

Celtic linked with Luka Adzic – What you need to know

Yesterday, I tweeted that reports from Serbia suggested that Celtic were in for Crvena Zvezda starlet, Luka Adzic. Today, those reports came out in full force in the Serbian media as Mozzart spoke to Adzic’s agent Radojica Bozovic.

“I know that there is interest in Celtic, but also some clubs for Luka Adžić, but there was no concrete offer, however, we decided that Luka would leave the Red Star very soon. His father, and my godfather, Ivan talked with Mr. Terzic (Director of football at Crvena Zvezda) and the people from the club They told him that Coach Milojevic does not seriously care for Ivan’s son (Adzic’s father, Ivan, was a Crvena Zvezda player in the 90s)”

Adzic’s contract is up at the end of 2018 and, in the always odd world of Serbian football, it seems to be that the tail is wagging the dog and that Adzic’s agent is pushing for the move most of all. But is this all a good idea for Celtic – let’s take a look.

Luka Adzic has only played just over 20 games for Crvena Zvezda in the past season or so but has managed to get himself comparisons to Andrija Zivkovic and earned Under 21 caps in that time on the left wing. Given that Serbia has as many high class left wingers as Scotland does left backs, that is certainly more impressive that it may first look and, internationally, his competitors are Nemanja Mihajlovic (Heerenveen), Danilo Pantic (Partizan on loan from Chelsea) and, most contentiously, Nemanja Radonjic (Crvena Zvezda, on loan from Roma sort of). Radonjic has, essentially, blocked off Adzic’s obvious route to first team football on the left wing and, with Radonjic’s contract sealed until 2022, there have understandably been some issues with just how Adzic might fit into the side. So far, the answer has been simply “from the bench” which, for a player with the potential of Adzic, isn’t exactly enough and, given his contract situation, Crvena Zvezda seem willing to sell (which is, in part, due to the fact that they don’t want to work with his agent).

So what sort of player is Adzic? Nominally, he’s a left winger but a right footed one and there is certainly the potential to move him into the number 10 role – internationally, if he wants to get recognition, that’s a move he will probably have to make given the talent depth on the left wing that Serbia have. For a winger, he is also quite tall at just over 6ft – a good 3in taller than both Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan. In his limited football, he has impressed – there is little doubt about that. With quality over a dead ball and with shots from open play, there is little doubt that Adzic has the quality to go far in the game – at youth level, he and Mihailo Ristic (already capped for the senior Serbia side) were held up as the standouts of the youth teams and comparisons have been made between him and Dejan Savicevic (who played with his father). All good things, I’m sure most would agree but it’s Adzic’s physical traits that stand out when it comes to looking at his suitability for Scottish football. When comparing him to, for example, Srdjan Plavsic, who was linked in the summer, Adzic is clearly more suited to the type of football played in the UK than Plavsic was. If one were to be looking at him with a view to a sale to the EPL then Adzic is certainly a player one would see the value in picking up.
